Holy Smokes! Look at our Defensive Line...

Our defensive line is unbelievably loaded this year.  How would you rank them?  Here is my take:

1. Corey Wooton - unlimited potential, All American material, will play Sundays.
2. John Gill - All Big Ten material, a beast in the middle.
3. Adam Hahn - soph should continue to improve, almost as good as Gill.
4. David Ngene - if he stays healthy, should get a lot of sacks.
5. Mark Koehn - has played a lot of downs
6. Kevin Mims - ditto
7. Keegan Kennedy - ditto
8. Corbin Bryant - raw talent
9. Marshall Thomas - played as true freshman

These guys are all solid Big Ten caliber linemen, with the top 4 being above average.

pretty accurate, however, if Ngene stays healthy, he's above Adam Hahn, right on Gill's tail. I hear he put some real sick numbers in a workout earlier this summer. Has NFL talent, if he could play this whole season and show off his abilities. For 10 and 11 you can put down Vince Browne and Jack Dinardo. They're going to be good as well. I think we're set at dline for years to come, if we aren't forced to move someone to the offensive line.
crickets are louder than the silence around here. The season HAS started, you know.

My guesses on these promising young men wearing Purple:

1. Corey Wooton - unlimited potential, All American material, will play Sundays.
2. John Gill - may be All Big Ten material, a beast in the middle.
3. David Ngene-This year he looks very good, but its his last college year.
4. Adam Hahn - soph should continue to improve, later be better.
5. Keegan Kenedy - this guy can really make plays at times.
6. Mark Koehn - has played a lot of downs, good on certain downs. Is stronger.
7. Kevin Mims - if healthy, he can improve.
8. Jack Dinardo,  may not play this year, but then again he may, and do well.
9. Vince Browne- wait till next year. Strong upside. Can catch runners from behind.
10. Corbin Bryant - raw talent, but not in the best physical condition
11. Marshall Thomas - mystery man, who if he matures will go up this ranking.

I think before his career is over Hahn is going to be at the top of this list, and I would put Gill slightly above Wooton for now. Ngene, if healthy, is going to be the monster pass rusher we've been waiting for this year. My order going into this year:

1. Gill

2. Wooton

3. Hahn

4. Ngene

5. Mims

6. Koehn

7. Kennedy

I'm gonna go with Pulmo on this one. If we are strictly talking about 2007, I'll go with Gill over Wooton. Also, Koehn could go over Mims, solely because of Mims' back injury.

Hahn is fine at No. 3. Good player.

Let's just hope they put up some serious numbers this year!

Matt Rice has some great comments about this group.  He ain't impressed with all their athleticism until they produce some game breaking sacks and dominate the line!  AMEN!

After Game 1, we're still waiting to see this unit live up to their preseason hype.

I'm sure they'll hear about it in practice.  We need a much better effort from here on out if we are going to contend for the Big 10 title.

What I think is significant....

is that Mafuli, considered the 2nd coming for the D-Line, doesn't have to play this year.

A full year to get bigger, stronger, faster. What a concept.

Re: Holy Smokes! Look at our Defensive Line...

I was all about hyping these guys, but they disappointed on Saturday, despite the shut out and shutting down the run. I was disappointed that they could not generate a pass rush against a Division IAA team, no matter how much size the OL had. Hopefully it was a fluke and just a bad day.

BTW, I would have ranked Ngene above eveorne but Wooton. Maybe over Wooton. But, I guess he didn't do anything on Saturday (neither did the rest of the gusy, quite frankly).

Mims over Koehn as well, and probably both over Hahn, though Hahn has great potential.

Corbin Bryant over Kennedy.
