Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
Wheaton North (Ill.) quarterback Clayton Thorson is on campus at Northwestern, I can confirm after running into him outside Welsh-Ryan Arena.

Re: Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
Any idea if he still plans to return to campus on March 1 as planned? Hopefully he can stay over for an overnight during practice.

Re: Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
Landing Thorson would be a nice start to our class behind the Texas DB. When I saw him play in person, he looked very good as a receiver and might be able to play receiver or TE in college if QB doesn't work out. He's a big kid who moves well.

Thorson didn't play QB full time?

Thorson split QB duties with senior Johnny Peltz, who turned down an offer from FCS North Dakota to play at Wheaton College where his father is an assistant coach and his uncle is the head coach (free tuition). Both QB's alternate between playing QB and WR for Wheaton North HS. When I saw Thorson play in a first round playoff game, he was playing mostly WR and stood out as a tall, very fluid WR with good hands. Thorson and Peltz grew up together, and their fathers, Chad and Jeff, have known each other for many years through playing and coaching at Wheaton College. By the way, Clayton's dad, Chad Thorson played LB and signed with the NYGiants and Indianapolis Colts. Highlight footage of Thorson (#18) show him playing both WR and QB, but the film is blurry so I wish Scout and Rivals would indicate with arrows or circles where he is on the field. Peltz is #11. Peltz's highlight film shows him completing long passes to Thorson, and vice versa. It's difficult to tell who's throwing to whom. http://articles.chicagotribune...n-peltz-falcons

Re: Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
Are we recruiting him as a QB, WR, or athlete to be assigned a position later? Fitz has noted that oftentimes HS QBs are the best athletes on their teams who can move to other positions in college.

Re: Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
Yep, Thorson is being recruited as a QB, and was told this by the staff.
If Alviti locks up the position, though, I can imagine Thorson will convert to WR. Plus he has great size, and as Beth Long told me: "He's good at everything."

If I wasn't a gentleman, I'd have fun with that line from Beth. ;)

http://articles.chicagotribune...n-peltz-falcons Thanks for the info. I hope Thorson doesn't pick Wheaton College over NU.

Re: Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
He sure does have a lot of high profile offers. Having him on board would be the second big get for 2014.

If he did, that would mean that there would be THREE Thorson sibs at Wheaton. His brothers are taller than he is and look to be future stars at WR and TE for the Thunder.

Tell you what. You want to make a wager that he won't end up at Wheaton?

Re: Clayton Thorson on campus at Northwestern
I don't think it's likely he'll end up at Wheaton with his two brothers, but I wouldn't be shocked and surprised if he did. Now that you know his father played there before a brief pro career and that he has two sibs there, neither will you.

No Glades, I would still be shocked and surprised. In fact, I would think the world was about to end, because only something like the apocalypse could portend such an unimaginable event to occur. Actually, that probably still doesn't convey how inconceivable this outcome would be to me, but words fail me.

As shocked and surprised as when Barnett left for Colorado?

Maybe not quite as shocked and surprised as that.
