Five Most Valuable Players Post Rating (1 vote)

I feel like this will almost certainly spark some debate:

Interesting list. I'd say Nick Van Hoose could be on the top 5. Trevor Siemian could be top 10 for stepping in at QB.

Very good read, Nick. I am on board with the five players listed, but one could also make a strong case for other names, too.

Brian Mulroe? Picks 1&2 wouldn't have done much w/o his great blocking.

Re: Five Most Valuable Players

I think the list is dead on. I think Mark is the MVP.

I wouldn't put Van Hoose on the list because as well as he played, he missed time against some good receivers. We really have no idea how he would have fared. I have a feeling he would have done well, but not playing those games puts him out of my top 5.

If I had a top 8..... I would have Ward and Mulroe at 6 and 7. They really have been terrific. They have shown leadership, play to the whistle, rarely take penalties and have played exceptionally well. I think Ward going to the Blindside has turned out better than anyone ever thought.

8) Jeff Budzien has been ridiculously good. Please let it last one more game at least.

Colter and mark are the obvious ones but I think the MVCat is Budzien. Pick a couple from the O line, maybe Ward and Mulroe and then two or more from the D, like Nwabusi, McEvilly or Campbell. Could add Cisek, why well because he's Cisek.

Theoretically, one could tie the offensive line's success with Venric Mark.

I'd say that the only reason to include VanHoose is because the rest of the secondary struggled immensely. He's not a top-five most valuable player. He was useful and his development is huge going into next season. But the injuries hurt his case.

The O-line was solid, but more as a collective unit. Ward, Mulroe and Vitabile are all excellent players. Good to have too many potential inclusions rather than too few.

I'm late to the party. I agree with just about everything that's been said. I like who is listed but could preach for others too.

I am totally set on Venric as the team mvp. No one was better then he was.

Re: Five Most Valuable Players

5) Tyler Scott, junior defensive lineman

4) David Nwabuisi, senior linebacker

3) Kain Colter, junior quarterback

2.) Ibraheim Campbell, sophomore safety

1.) Venric Mark, junior running back

I'd probably swap 2 and 3 and swap 4 and 5, but pretty much agree.

6) Mulroe
7) Ward
8) Vitabile
9) Proby
10) VanHoose
11) Simien (He's probably undervalued.  We don't beat Syracuse or MSU without excellent back up QB play.)
12) Ariguzo

Regarding Colter vs. Mark, they are both so valuable to what the other does.  Mark is far less dangerous without Colter's Zone Read ability and Colter's far less dangerous running zone read to Trumpy, Jones, etc.

I think Budzien is in the top 10, and if he hits that 52 yarder at the end of the game against Nebraska he jumps into the top 5 as that would have put the Cats at 10-2 with a shot at the B1G championship and a Rose Bowl berth.

The season of Jeff Budzien is certainly worth noting. Last year, it seemed the coaches had little faith in him. Now, he's automatic.
