Nick Gwiazdowski beats 2 time defending national champion

Simply amazing job by Nick Gwiazdowski and the Wolfpack coaching staff. Nick not only defeated two-time defending Division 1 heavyweight wrestling champion Tony Nelson. He beat him 9-0 in a freestyle matchup at the Senior Nationals today. That is an amazing accomplishment. eek

Re: Nick Gwiazdowski beats 2 time defending national champion

Nick finished the day by placing third in the nation at the senior level (highest level of international wrestling). He defeated defending two-time D-1 national champion Tony Nelson 9-0, lost to former D-1 national champion Zach Rey 5-2, defeated Kyle Massey by technical fall early, then defeated Tony Nelson again in a close contest 6-4. I cannot emphasize enough how incredible an accomplishment this is for this sophomore (and for our wrestling program's profile). To my knowledge, that's the highest a NC State wrestler has ever finished at the senior world team trials in freestyle. Someone who has been following the program longer might remember a higher finish, however.

That has to be encouraging for the Sophomore.  Probably watch the tape and work his tail off to beat Zach Rey next time.

This is the guy who wasn't eligible last year, but will be contributing points next season.  Right?
