Well, tough ending.  Wilson is a great leader - I agree NC State should do something special for him now that it no longer conflicts.
I like the athletic type.

Not the best end of game coaching by Carroll. Too bad for RW. I was pulling for him but now will be pulling for the Falcons the rest of the way.

I would have liked to seen a ~12yard pass down the seam to setup a 57 or so yard chance, they had two timeouts. Instead, thy got six up the sideline. I thought TOB was coaching out there.

Failure to get at least a FG at the end of the 1st half loomed large in this game. No excuse for letting Ryan get downfield in 2 plays. Definitely felt like NC State sheeeeeeeeeeeet at play there. Felt very much like our Maryland game this year, only the FG was made in this case.

Atlanta beat the Panthers the same way this season.  Give Ryan 35 seconds and two timeouts and he can get you into field goal position.

Great comeback by Seattle.

And also agreed about not taking the field goal in the first half.  That was a stupid decision by Carroll.

Yep. My question too. Those passes were not there when they were stopping the Falcons in the previous possessions. I thought they dropped back to make sure no one got behind them. But that combined with a blitz did not work too well. They could have worked too hard to make sure they did not give up one big play that they allowed 2 medium sized plays. Who knows. Sucks for Russell.

Re: Russell Wilson Thread (12-6) season over

No offense to Marshawn Lynch - but I think (hope, at least) Carroll finally realized who THE MAN really is for the Seattle offense.   The Falcons totally shut down Lynch today, and I was screaming at the TV every time they'd hand off to him that they were idiots.  Finally they let Wilson loose, and he went wild.

This is Wilson's team now.  He's earned it.

Guy had what amounted to a 130 passer rating (if you take away his bogus hail mary interception) plus 60 yards rushing and TD.   A near-perfect game on the road against the #1 seed, after flying across the country twice in one week.   Incredible.

Crappy, crappy way to end a magical season.

But he'll be back.  They'll be back.  Can't wait until next year.

Well it doesn't help if you have two straight attempts to gain just 1 yard to get a first down, and you don't hand it to either of your two best rushers in those two attempts.

Not sure who called those two plays, but that was total idiocy.

RW 24/36 385 2 TD passing, 70 yards 1 TD rushing. Kapernick, RGIII, and Luck aren't on his level right now.

Kapernick and RGIII are one read and run QBs. No where near as polished as RW.

Re: Russell Wilson Thread (12-6) season over

I've definitely changed my rookie of the year thoughts. I'm a huge skins fan but Russell was clearly the best rookie the second half of the season and one of the 4 or 5 best QBs in the league overall during that period. Don't know if it would've been that way if RG3 stayed healthy but he didn't so its clearly Russell.

Great game by Russell Wilson!  He is fun to watch and a class act.

Carroll lost that game for them by going for it on 4th and 1 instead of kicking a field goal in the first half and then burning ALL his time outs before the end of the first half so the field goal unit had no chance to set up.  Yes, Wilson should have avoided the sack, but you need to have a time out in your back pocket.

Success rate on 4th and 1 is about 75%.  It was the right call.  They just blew it by attempting two inside handoffs to someone who wasn't their best runner.

Best plays would have been inside handoff to Lynch on 3rd down, then if that didn't work have Wilson do a bootleg or the like on 4th and 1.

RE: Russell Wilson Thread (12-6) season over

I haven't watched the DVR of the second half yet, but listened on the radio and Russell was fantastic.  He did make a mistake at the end of the half by being sacked, but other than that he was simply the best player on the field.  His defense let him down.

The Seahawks are very young and this could be the start of a long period of them being very good.  We all know they have their QB for the next 10-12 years if he stays healthy.  Russell Wilson will go down as one of the best role models ever to come out of N. C. State.  He already is a champion on the field, in the classroom and in the community.  I am proud of this young man and how he handles himself.

That was tough, but looking at the replay - I don't fault him much for that, if at all.   There were a couple of sacks during the game, but that was by far the quickest the Falcons' line had gotten to him all day.  He simply had no time to throw it away without seriously risking a pick-6 at worst, or getting an intentional grounding penalty at best.

I guess intentional grounding would have been better (would that have stopped the clock, or do they run time off?), but it's hard to make that decision there since it goes against the normal reaction.

The fault on that play was pretty much all on the O line.  The one time they simply *had* to protect him they turned to melted butter.

Tough loss for Seattle but they dug a big hole early. I can't believe how easy ATL drove those last few plays.

Seattle vs SF is now a BIG rivalry in the West and St. Louis also made some progress under Fischer this year. That division is gonne be tough.

Oh I agree that was the best pressure the Falcons put on him in the first half( I saw that) and he would have been best served to throw it away out of the end zone.  Even the intentional grounding call wouldn't have hurt that much because they were inside the 20 anyways.  Even if they did run the clock, the Seahawks would have had time I believe to kick the field goal.  I don't know if that is standard on all penalties under a minute to run clock or not.

RW seems to be a hard luck kinda of guy when it comes to these situations:
playing for the ACC championship - came close but no go, Rose Bowl, close but no cigar, and now this game that would have put them in the championship game.

Just can't seem to get over the hump - hope it doesn't continue.

It will if his defenses keep on losing leads in the last minutes of games.

1st and Goal at the 2 with :34 seconds to go AND 3 timeouts.

I know you have to score a TD, but with Beast Mode and RW as your top options you'll more than likely punch it in from 2 yards out.

Run a little clock.
