Fran scambled more, a lot more.  He made it to 3 Super Bowls - lost all 3.   He held a lot of records, but I bet he'd trade they all for a Super Bowl ring.
He also answered to "Tarkenton".

But, after checking the stats, it's false to say that Tarkenton scrambled more.  Wilson had 94 attempts this season for 489 yards.  Tarkenton never had more than 62 attempts and never had more than 376 yards.
Tarkenton played less games and lots of times he didn't scramble to run, he scrambled until he could pass.  You would have to look at pass attempts and sacks(which they didn't keep back then) to get a true picture.
Exactly.  He stayed behind the line of scrimmage and scrambled around looking to pass, not to run.   I watched Fran play back in the day, and I've watched Russell play.   Rushing stats doesn't really tell you who scrambled more. It just tells you who ran for more yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

They played 14 games per season back then, so the difference can't be explained by simply pointing to the length of the season.

Wilson has a few designed runs in most games, but he typically scrambles to pass quite a bit.

You just answered you own question right there.  Let's say Russell has 2 designed runs in each game.  Sometimes he has less sometimes more but that right there is 32 extra attempts.  That would equal what Tarkenton did in 14 games.

Again you would have to look at each individual game to get a true comparison.  Different times and a different game.  You may not be old enough to remember, but Frantic Fran the Scrambling Man used his ability to evade defenders and ended up passing the ball as much as he ran with it.

Good article.  I believe Russell would have been successful at baseball too.  Maybe not to the extent he has done in football, but a very solid player none the less.

Joe Montana had a scholarship to play basketball for Norm Sloan at N. C. State, then Notre Dame came calling for football.  He made the right choice.  I think Russell may have made the right choice too, but that is something we can never actually know until his playing days are over.

Haushka was places on IR. Does that mean he's done for the playoffs?

Usually when you are placed on IR you are done, but there is a new provision in the CBA now where you can still play if placed on IR early.  Not sure if his designation fits the new provision and I would assume he is done.

Re: Russell Wilson Thread (12-5) 1/13 @ Falcons 1pm

Both he and Clemons were placed on IR.  They should both be done for the playoffs.  I guess this means Longwell 'won' the competition between the two the other day, which is understandable due to the calf injury on Hauschka's plant leg.

Hauschka has more range, but Longwell should suffice from 52 yards or so in.  One of the more accurate kickers in NFL history (if not the most accurate).  Ryan will more than likely handle kickoff duties moving forward.

Seems that the Seahawks didn't want to emulate the 49ers by keeping an extra kicker on the active roster, even if Hauschka could have come back next week.

To replace Clemons the 'Hawks signed defensive end Patrick Chukwurah.

Hate to hear that. Hauschka has been a good kicker for them.

saw that the seahawks will be looking to trade flynn. they will probably have to eat some of his contract but can still free up some cap room and get a 3-5 round pick. they have a bright future with RW.

I think he slipped on the opening kickoff.  It was a horrible kick.  Announcers commented on it.

Pete Carroll was on with Dan Patrick and he noted that they lost Haushka and Clemmons during the game.  It very well could have been on the opening kickoff.  I did not see that.

Officially the Seahawks can't renegotiate his deal until after year 3. But I imagine one of the owners could give him a $1 million endorsement deal if they wanted :). ... profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/...two-more-years/

Under the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement, all contracts for draft picks have a mandatory length of four years.  And those contracts cannot be renegotiated until three seasons have passed.

So even if the Seahawks want to give Wilson a raise, they can’t.  He’ll make $526,217 in 2013 and $662,434 in 2014.  After his third season, the Seahawks can reward him.

Well....that sucks.

Russell will not be hurting for $$$.  The guy pretty much owns the city of Seattle right now, and the endorsement deals will be rolling in pretty soon.

I agree. I saw a lot of "I Love Russell" type signs yesterday around Seattle. He's exceeded my expectations for his first year. I am expecting he will have a much better game vs. the Falcons tomorrow than he did at Washington.

Seattle has let Ryan get way too comfortable back there.  He's making perfect passes every dadgum play.  I guess Seattle's missing Clemons.

Need a TD followed by an onside-kick.
