They have two first lines and two fourth lines. So moving Tlusty to the 3rd line (probably temporarily) wouldn't register much except it feels like a demotion to the 4th line. Ruutu's absence is really felt in terms of balance this season.

LaRose to the first line with EStaal and Semin tonight. Jussi moving to wing on second line with JStaal and Dwyer. Bowman out. Canes players coming to Semin's defense over Brouwer's comments. Could get interesting this evening.
From LeBrun:
- According to NHL memo sent to 30 teams, no longer is the idea to go to 4 conferences, but rather 2 conferences with two divisions each
From McKenzie::
- Top 3 teams in each of two 8-team East conferences make the playoffs. Two wild cards from remaining 10 East teams also make the playoffs.
Liked the original ideas better. Yeah, I like the original idea better as well. The divisional playoff rivalries are what made it great. Now, with wild cards, there are no guarantees of that, which seems to defeat the whole purpose. Interesting that Bowman is out. And I would have though Dalpe would get a crack with JStaal. --------------------------------------------- Yeah, as you say, it defeats the purpose. Hopefully they'll change their minds before anything becomes official. Proposal(s) haven't reached the Board of Gov or the PA yet. Think the PA is the one pushing for the wild card. Tlusty was skating with Nash and Dalpe on 3rd line. Could be just experimentation at the morning skate. All from Chip. Here's his article on the Semin reaction. blogs.newsobserver.com/canes/b...oM9fOeY.twitter

Fishing? Get him out with Coach Doeren! Hook him up with the Bass Pack! I suggest that Westgarth be on the ice tonight to "discuss" this issue with the Caps.

LeBrun's article on realignment: espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/899...gue-4-divisionsThe NHLPA blocked the December 2011 plan, citing travel concerns for its players plus playoff inequity of having the top four teams in each conference make the playoffs under that format, unfair for the two eight-team conferences. The changes proposed by the NHL in this realignment format come as a result of those concerns from the NHLPA, the two sides negotiating for the past three weeks on finding a better solution for realignment. The NHLPA wants to further address it with its players before consenting to it.

Good point. Possibly. Ryder had 2 goals and 6 assists in his last 5 games, seems like he was really starting to play well for Dallas. Hopefully Erik does well with em. RJWolfpack wrote: Mark Recchi is with Stars mgmt, wonder if he had some influence in getting Stars GM to do this.

Well Ward has had his share of criticism, and deservedly so, but he is the reason the score isn't 4 - 0.

Ward plays well that period.
Habs getting rid of that Cole contract is what that trade is about. Get a good PP guy in return. Hopefully for Cole, this stint in the West turns out better than his last. Has some guys to play with.
Gagne was reunited with his old team today, as well. Kings get a 3rd if Flyers make payoffs, a 4th if they don't.
I'd think there will be a few teams not thrilled with the wildcard proposal. From Dreger:
- Expect push-back from a number of NHL teams over the Wildcard playoff proposal. Still fresh, but, some Southeast Div teams are opposed.

For as much as I hate hearing the phrase "puck-moving defenseman," we really need one tonight. Can't get it out of our end, and then when we do we can't keep it in the zone.

I can agree with that, but even then, Wallace, Dwyer, Brent, Bowman, Westgarth, Larose. That's a whole bunch of fourth liners, IMO. I know, not every line is going to have stars, but just watching other teams third and fourth line guys play, they're better than ours almost every night.

Rutherford could make a big splash and try to get Keith Yandle or Mark Streit. And of course the smaller trades will always be out there, I read that Boston would be willing to move Andrew Ference for some wing help. Who knows, we probably do nothing and finish 9th or 10th in the East.
