I am going to go ahead and call it - Cole with the game winner in the waning minutes of the game.

I can accept that I guess, but I just don't see Larose or Nash providing any offense tonight either. It's going to have to be one of the top 2 lines for us to win, plain and simple. But without unarguably our two 2 defensemen tonight, I think I'd rather have the enforcer out there than Riley Nash.

Actually, Nash has been really good tonight. Confident with the puck.
Ward has been excellent - keeping Canes in it here in the 2nd period.

Canes had their best 4 or 5 chances of the game in the last 2 minutes of the period.
That was about as exciting as a scoreless period can get.

Just not enough consistent scoring pressure from the Canes tonight. Skinner means a **** ton to this team, that's pretty obvious.

That may be some of the worst goaltending I have ever seen. No excuse for not squaring your body up to the puck.

Seems to be an excessive amount of snow on the ice near the end of periods in this one as well. I think the 3rd goal was a direct result of the 2nd goal pain still distracting Cam.

Blackhawks tie record for most consecuative games with a point to start the season. They are now 13-0-3 with 29 pts. Hossa, who has been playing as good of a two-way game as anyone, was injured tonight, however. BS hit to the head.

Re: Carolina Hurricanes 2012-13.1 (8-5-1) 2/21 Jets 7pm
Updated injury news. Hopefully will have some guys back soon. Joni Pitkanen, who has missed the team’s last two games with a lower-body injury, is the closest of the wounded bunch to returning to the ice. Muller said he hopes Pitkanen, who was walking around all right at Raleigh Center Ice on Tuesday, will be able to skate with the team on Wednesday.Muller said there is a chance that Tim Gleason, who has also missed the team’s last two games with a lower-body injury, could get back on the ice Wednesday.
Jeff Skinner’s upper-body injury is “still being evaluated,” according to Muller. The 20-year-old forward, who did not make the trip to Montreal, will likely not skate on Wednesday, but Muller still hopes to have him available for Thursday's game.
Tim Brent, who traveled with the team to Montreal and left the morning skate early with a lower-body injury, is day-to-day.
Tim Wallace did not practice with the Canes Tuesday and is also day-to-day.

Lindy Ruff fired by Buffalo. 16 years at the position. 170 HC changes in the NHL since he started his tenure in '97. Of the four major professional sports, only Popovich has a current longer tenure at the same job (started in '96).

If he still wants to coach, he won't be gone long. So enjoy it while you can.
@OHLRangers: Head Coach/GM Steve Spott confirming that D Ryan Murphy has been recalled by the Carolina Hurricanes (NHL), effective immediately.

Wow - stunned by the Murphy recall.
My best guess is this is a deseprate attempt to jumpstart the PP and that the Canes will dress 7 d-men in games Murphy plays (dropping one of the little used 4th liners). I don't see any way you can trust him in 5-on-5 right now.

That's the defensive replacement. This move makes it permanent, correct? Can't be sent back to Kitchner. Not sure about movement to AHL in this first season.

You can keep them at the start of the year for a short period of evaluation - but if you recall them in the middle of the year, I think you are stuck with them. There are age limits with the AHL - but Murphy is two years removed from his draft, so he might be able to go down to the minors if needed. Defensive replacement for who? They have 6 healthy and Gleason and Pitkanen on the way back. I don't see any reason to do this unless you are going to play him.

Why we thought it was weird that they recalled forwards after placing 2 D-men on the IR.
Of course, now with official word that Skinner suffered his second concussion, maybe we know why they did just that. Tough break for the Canes.

Amended rule with new CBA? I always thought the only time you could send them back to the CHL was at the begining of the year (9 games). After that, they couldn't go back. Maybe I had it wrong.

Guess it has always been any set of X games - it is just that clubs, if they are going to burn a year on the contract, are usually going to want the player for the whole year instead of calling them up midseason.
And it sounds like Murphy is up because McBain is hurt.

Appears to be an emergency call up, which is allowed when a team can't suit up enough players due to injury. McBain is out now and Pitts is still not guaranteed to play tomorrow.
