Corvo is awful
Beyond awful. Worst decision of the offseason, by far. I hope some D-men hit the trade market sometime soon. If not, just another major disappointment for the Canes. Simply cannot win in this day and age with below average D men. Pitkanen, Faulk, and Gleason are the only 3 that I think would start on a playoff caliber team. i realize you're not going to have stars on every line, but I'm not even sure you can say Corvo, McBain, Harrison and Sanguinetti are even serviceable at this point.

---------------------------------------------
Some thoughts...

Harrison is a solid third pairing defenseman. You finds guys like him on every team in the league.

Sanguinetti is a former first rounder who is getting his first real shot in the NHL. Let this one play out.

McBain has been inconsistent since his rookie year. If he doesn't pick his game up I could see him in a trade package

Corvo sucks.

Bryan Allen is a nice player. I just not sure he's worth 3 years, 10.5 million which is the deal he got from the Ducks. Such is life in a small market.

The Canes need a legitimate stay at home defenseman with some snarl. The problem is everybody wants those guys. In a few weeks some teams are going to be out of the running for the playoffs. If the canes aren't one of them maybe JR can swing a deal.

Somebody that knows more about contracts can help me out, but is Bowman a guy that we would have had to have waived to send to Charlotte? If not, he should have went down instead of Dalpe.

Westgarth goes a round early on! I like it

Ugh, so much fail on that play. Harrison late getting back, Cam Ward gives up a rebound and Sanguinneti wiffs on the clearing attempt. banghead

After that putrid first period, we have looked very good tonight. Maybe Cam needed that wake up call from Dan Ellis to get his head out of his ***.

ward has bailed the d out several times tonight. i like mcbain but he is just not comfortable out there. fortunately for him, his only competition for playing time is corvo and he is garbage.

If we could get 1 above average defenceman in a deal somewhere, I think we'd have a contending team. That way, we would have 2 very solid D pairs, and with young guys Harrison and Sanguinetti on the third line. Corvo is crap, and McBain is never going to fit in here apparently, but I would say another team would like to have him.

Same issues on defense.  Really would like to see a stay at home type guy added.  With Sanguinetti, McBain, and Corvo it's really like a pick your poison.  We've got Murphy in the minors, Faulk and Pitkanen right now.  We have enough puck movers/PP point men.  Package McBain, Dalpe/Bowman/Checker Player for a good stay at home defender and see if the defense improves.

Probably because if they go 0-82 they would still every seat at high prices.     They have a giant fan base that's used to losing, sort of like the Cubs.

Evidence supporting a ticket price increase?

sulia.com/tiqiq/f/0eb3728b-2c2...-02-06-23-54-25

In the Southeast Division, the Hurricanes came out of the extended offseason with Jordan Staal, brother of captain Eric Staal, and Alexander Semin - so far, fans have been supportive. The 'Canes currently boast a 17% increase in ticket price (the largest in the league), going from $77.54 to $90.51 per ticket.

Aside from Carolina, only 9 other teams are trending upwards - the Islanders, Bruins, Caps, Lightning, Predators, Blues, Blue Jackets, Avalanche, & Ducks.

I've been impressed with the crowds so far. Not sure that avg. increase is entirely accurate though given the shear number of ticket discount offers available.

TiqIQ aggregates the prices and listings on the secondary market (StubHub, eBay, TicketsNow, etc...). It's accurate as far as that market goes. Teams keep an eye on that market through the years and often alter their ticket prices to reflect that market.

Dynamic pricing is the way to go and I think most teams will be using that in the future as the technology gets better. A Tuesday night game against Anaheim in November is not worth as much as a Sunday matinee against Boston in March. Will likely trickle down to college sports as well. If you are a season ticket holder, you're hedging your bets on the value of the ticket being higher most nights.

At Canes/Flyers game last weekend in Philly, we paid $160 a piece for tickets for center ice lower level on Stubhub.  We actually got the tickets cheaper on Stubhub, because a season ticket holder was selling them, than what the Flyers were directly selling seats in same section when they released some tickets a few days before the game.

there used to be a site that tracker average attendance and stats hockey geeks would love, but it appears to have gone to cyberspace

the other sites google sends me to has numbers I do not believe

football record prediction (2010) 3-9, 1-7 (2011) 5-7, 2-6 (2012) 7-5, 4-4
MBB prediction: (2010-11) 21-9, 10-6 (2011-12) 19-12, 7-9 (2012-13) 24-7, 12-6

Wow.... I just bought 2 for the game on 2/21 vs. Winnipeg.  Right on the glass behind the Canes bench, aisle seats with Premier parking pass for $87.50/ticket.  Maybe I got lucky?

The trick to StubHub is buying your tickets ~3-4hrs before puck drop. I have done this multiple times and end up getting tickets 4 rows off the glass for like 40/each.  Haven't bought tix through the box office in 3 years now.

I assume these are the tickets that you print out yourself?

Maybe it's just my negative attitude, but are we the only team in the league that has defensemen firing 2-line passes that never come close to the target? Watching Gleason's past miss by about 20 feet there had me wondering.
