Didn't think the refs did any favors for the Canes in that period, but what else is new today.
Hopefully the Canes have weathered the best the Flyers can put forward at this point.

Special teams haven't been good at the start of the year. 28th on the PP and 21st on PK. Both have to improve.

At some point you wonder whether we just don't have good special teams players. I feel like Canes fans have been complaining forever about how the special teams are and that somehow it's just a matter of time and/or jelling to figure it out. This has pretty much gone on since the season after the Cup run so at some point, after three different coaching staffs have tried to unlock this mystery about special teams play, you have to start looking at some other cause than the coaches are terrible at this, can't you?

The Flyers are really, really bad defensively. I mean, terrible. The number of chances the Canes are generating when the Flyers had 3 goal lead heading into this period should be downright scary to Flyers fans.

LOL - they called Coburn for interference of Tlusty....and then Tlusty for goalie interference for falling into the goalie after being interfered with.
That is horrible. There is no other word for it.

im glad they finally called up wallace. we need to run westgarth and wallace consistently to be able to match the physicality of teams like philly. gleason has done a decent job of answering the bell when needed which i have been happy to see.

Surprised they sent Dalpe down to make room for Wallace though. I guess they didn't have a choice.

That's what I thought - odd decision. (He did lose his spot on the Staal/Skinner line late in the 2nd on Saturday. I'm not sure what the reason for that was but Muller saw something.)

Juggling forwards around isn't going to fix the glaring problem that is behind the blue line...

Maybe this will mean LaRose gets into the top 6 forwards.
As least then I can enjoy the Partizan meltdown if the Canes lose.

Motorcat wrote: I've sat behind the penalty box glass before and agree with the previous poster - not the ideal seats bcause of the layers of glass.
I found the two layers of glass to be a non-issue. I mean, I wouldn't pay face value for the seats (assuming it is high), but the visibility was fine. For my kids, it was a great "first game" experience. They got to see Staal up close, and got the feeling that the seats were "special". Being small though, their visibility of the ice was not ideal because of the low obscured glass behind the box, and the wall in front...and they spent part of the game watching the jumbotron. I probably wouldn't sit there again with the kids, but would have no issue sitting there myself.

Re: Carolina Hurricanes 2012-13.1 (3-4-0) 2/4 @ Leafs
Attended the game Saturday and since it was the first Canes game I saw in over a yr and the first Canes game I saw at an away arena in years, had a different feel. I tried to really watch certain players during the course of the game.
Could see the effort from both Staals and Semin. I thought a few of the younger guys were out there really trying.
I thought Jussi and LaRose were horrible. I thought Skinner looked pretty bad in that specific game.
The D was pretty bad and both Cam and Ellis are going to have it tough if they are not dialed in on a specific night. Not sure when the traded deadline is for this season, but if we are close to making the playoffs, JR needs to do something to shore up the D. Canes really need to make the playoffs this season and improving D is only way to do it.

Getting rid of Dennis Seidenberg several years ago was dumb as heck as well. I know he wanted more money than JR was wanting to pay, but I recall he made some questionable D decisions that off-season as well. crusherl wrote: Letting Bryan Allen walk and bringing back Corvo was a horrible decision.

crusherl wrote: Letting Bryan Allen walk and bringing back Corvo was a horrible decision. Seidenberg had no desire to play here and was tanking on purpose to get out. He would've been doing the same thing had he stayed. He needed a new place to go. Speaking of letting defenseman walk, keeping Spacek might've been good too since he was willing to shoot.

I hope some D-men hit the trade market sometime soon. If not, just another major disappointment for the Canes. Simply cannot win in this day and age with below average D men. Pitkanen, Faulk, and Gleason are the only 3 that I think would start on a playoff caliber team. i realize you're not going to have stars on every line, but I'm not even sure you can say Corvo, McBain, Harrison and Sanguinetti are even serviceable at this point.
