Wouldn't read too much into last night's game. May be indicative, likely not. Not sure how much hockey some of you watched yesterday, but the Canes' play was similar to a few others. Many of Vancouver's fans now want Luongo to be the #1 goalie after 14 shots into the season. Didn't matter how poor the defense in front of Schneider played. Going to be more WTF type games throughout this season. Just wait for some of these back-to-back sequences. Hopefully the Canes will limit them. sports.yahoo.com/news/nhl--hoc...-024017823.html

Between the picture being jumpy, Chantel being awful, and the actual game itself, that is about as bad a first broadcast as they could have had.

Well, with all games being in conference each loss is bad in a shortened season. Now, take care of business at home all or most of the season and I think the Canes make the PO.

Shut the **** up about Chantel. She is hot and that's all that matters.

Well that's mainly how she got the job. Rumor has it Aaron Ward gave her a good word since he knew her from his time in Boston. Wonder how well he knew her.

I'd much rather watch and even listen to Chantel than Tripp. Detroit lost 6-0 yesterday and LA was whipped as someone said.. not time to panic yet.

I don't think anybody is panicking. I think everybody realizes we still have no defensemen worth crap. This has been a problem for quite a few years, and we made no real attempts to improve it in the offseason.

The really frustrating thing is the front office doesn't even seem to realize it's a problem as evidenced by the drafting of "Matador" Murphy.

Drayson Bowman is in a red jersey, he has for the moment take Zach Bouchuk's spot on the line with Eric Staal and Alex Semin.
Other lines based on practice jersey color. LaRose/J. Staal/Tlusty Skinner/Jokinen/Dwyer Four players in the Blue Brent/Westgarth/Welsh/ZB

I think coaches like the Skinner/Jokinen combo as those two had some success when on the ice together last season. That being said, still pretty quick into season to not give Skinner/J. Staal more time. crusherl wrote: Skinner on the 3rd line?

LaRose on the second line... lol. That will bring some more nice discussion around here.
I like his energy and whatnot, but he's a 3rd/4th liner at best. At best.

Muller said something about a week ago, that the centers were as follows:
1st - E. Staal 2nd - J. Staal 3rd - Jokinen
and that he was not going to shift them around, like some coaches do (Mo), but would shift the wingers around to find the right combos. Surprised he is juggling so quick though.

Tough one to lose at home against a divisional rival who played yesterday afternoon while the Canes have been off since Saturday. Saw some positives (think the PP1 unit can be a force, Ward looked better), but not enough.
Two poor defensive efforts by forwards (E Staal and Skinner) led to two of Tampa's goals.

On this shortened season, I don't see how you can fall too far behind and catch up. And the Canes are notorious for slow starts and scrapping to the bitter end to try and make the playoffs. I sure hope they can get some points soon. That 6 game road trip is coming up fast.

^^ Fortunately no one in the division has jumped out at the start. Tampa has 4 pts in 3 games. Two of those games on the road. Not bad for them.
From what I've seen across the league early (still talking about 2 to 3 game, not much data), it appears that teams with very little change in their line-up from last year are having the most success. Watching San Jose roll Edmonton right now (6-1 at end of 1st). They be one example. Their two main lines are skating circles around the very much younger Oilers. Chicago, Boston, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Ottawa and even Anaheim are others.
