Good, I like all 3 of them, even if Tripp is the biggest homer I've ever heard, lol. We never do anything wrong according to him.

Very good announcers, imo. Forslund is really good at play by play.

Kaiton is a Hall of Famer.. great to keep him
Forslund is one of the top TV announcers today. We are fortunate to have him.
Tripp is barely tolerable. I'll take him as an offset to the other two.

Forslund is one of the best hockey announcers out there.  Tripp Tracy, not so much.

I would like to see them go after Aaron Ward.  He would make an outstanding color guy.

Me either.  I think he does a good job alongside Forslund.  As far as hockey radio play-by-play goes, Chuck Katon is the best!  Glad to hear that all of them will remain with the Canes!

Open with a six-game West Coast swing. Finish the year with 17 of 26 at home.

Draft begins Friday. Some writers believe there could be a fair amount of trades leading up and during the draft. We'll see if the Canes are involved. May not use that #8 pick.

Tripp is a homer.  And a bit of a goof ball at times.  That's where the "hate" comes from.  But he is generally knowledgeable and does a decent job.  I've certainly heard worse.

Re: Carolina Hurricanes 2012-13 schedule released

Bob McKenzie reports that Jordan Staal turned down a 10-year extensiion with Pittsburgh. Doesn't mean he'll be traded, but one would think the Pens will at least entertain the thought before he becomes a UFA at the end of next season. As a one-year possible rental, Staal has a great deal of say in where the Pens deal him.

Tripp Tracy is a friend of Karmanos so he's got that job for life. He is far from the worst NHL color guy.

Tweets from Rob Rossi, reporter for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:

Staal leaning towards free agency, rejects long-term offer from  # pens:triblive.com/sports/penguin… # NHLdraft2012 # StaalWatch

Rob Rossi @ RobRossi_Trib

Source close to talks tells  @ TribSports that Staal has not ruled out remaining w/  # pens but would talk contract if traded to  # canes

Rob Rossi @ RobRossi_Trib

Staal's 1st response when I asked after playoffs how  # pens can keep all three centers happy on many fronts: 'That's a good question.'

Rob Rossi
@ RobRossi_Trib

Some key points: Staal has not rejected  # pens just this offer; he has not asked to be traded but would talk deal w/  # canes if dealt

Well I'm a season ticket holder, so the Canes better do something this year to put this team back in the playoffs. Getting a deal done to get the "other" Staal would be great.

Please get something done.

While I don't object to getting the other Staal, he's a center and I'm not sure how that addresses the need for a winger for Eric Staal. Unless the plan is to move Eric to the wing permanently.

Doesn't matter...any player with that kind of talent that wants to be in Carolina, we should be signing them.

Sure, signing them. But we have to trade for him first....just worried what that will cost on top of the 6 mil per year we will probably have to pay Jordan Staal.

Re: Carolina Hurricanes 2012-13 schedule released

I would guess Eric is moved to wing with Jordan centering the line, if a deal is done. Other teams I've seen as possibly interested in J. Staal are the Rangers and Buffalo.

An opinion piece on J. Staal in the Pittsburgh Trib today.

triblive.com/sports/penguins/2...t=Google+Reader

1. The Penguins recently made Staal an overwhelming 10-year offer.

2. Staal rejected it so emphatically that his agent, Paul Krepelka, issued a blanket statement that Staal “is not prepared to enter into a contract extension at this time.”

3. The latter apparently isn’t even true, as Staal is known to have told the Penguins he is open to signing with Carolina, where he could join two brothers, All-Star Eric and prospect Jared.

Can you see some way this scenario results in the Penguins keeping Staal?

Not me.

Certainly not anymore.

Shero could simply try to swing something with Jim Rutherford, the Hurricanes’ GM, and cross his fingers for some good-faith bargaining. But Rutherford hasn’t lasted 18 years in his post by being a fool. He’ll play the cards he’s dealt.

Who really thinks that, under these circumstances, the Hurricanes would give up Jeff Skinner, one of the NHL’s top young forwards?

Or even their No. 8 overall draft pick tonight?

No chance.

It’s all shaping up to be a real shame that this marriage — between the Penguins and Staal, not the one Staal actually will have today with his fiancee — appears destined to end like this.

But it sure does.

Need more?

First word of this Staal news yesterday was broken by Bob McKenzie, the renowned hockey reporter for Canada’s TSN. And I’m here to tell you that word didn’t originate from Staal’s side. It came from the Penguins.

The team wanted this extension offer known.

The team wanted fans to know they put forth an appropriate effort.

The team wanted the public to know as much as possible before trading a popular player.

Maybe Shero will wrap it as a wedding gift.

It's not so much Sutter as it is the pick and Doumelin as well. Doumelin is very highly thought of. And Forsberg is sitting there way late at #8 in this draft.

I hate losing Sutter too of course.  But I can deal with that if that's all that it was.

Too much for Jordan Staal. Sutter was great at the penalty kill and great on the checking line and one of the few who could finish on a damn breakaway. Very disappointed.

Agree about Forsberg.. I was already looking forward to seeing him on the Canes.

I will say this about Sutter - I think the Canes were a little upset that Sutter wouldn't sign a long term deal last year. The "security" of knowing that they will probably have Staal under contract "for life" soon probably helped a lot.

I think I'd have been 100% okay with the deal if either of the other components was included....it's that both the #1 and Doumelin were in it that bothers me.
