The 5th and 6th rounds of that fight were fantastic. Hardest punch and knockout I can remember since Pacman essentially ended Ricky Hatton's career.

I actually think the shot Marquez hit Pacquiao with may have been worse than the one Pacquiao landed against Hatton. I've watched a lot of boxing in my life and that's one of the most devastating one punch knockouts I've ever seen. PackRugby wrote: The 5th and 6th rounds of that fight were fantastic. This one was worse than the Tarver/Jones knockout. At least Jones was able to get up and stumble around before the ref waved his arms. The only question with this knockdown was whether to call an ambulance or a hearse. rowdy2000 wrote: ^ yep that was the worst knockout in a big fight ive seen since roy jones got dropped. so much for the pacman/weather superfight. i guess mayweather will fight Canelo Álvarez next

I was happy to see Manny move after a while - that was 1 brutal KO!

Just went back and watched the Hatton knockout again...I think the result of tonight's punch was worse (Pacman face down not moving for a minute or two half out of the ring)...but that left that Pacquiao stopped Hatton with is a ridiculously perfect punch. The only fight that I really want to see is Ward/Mayweather. Andre Ward is the best boxer in the world right now IMO.

Yeah, that one's never happening. Ward is a lot bigger than Mayweather and Mayweather isn't going to put on 20 pounds to fight him. I think Ward is the best in the world though. His problem is that there aren't that many good fights out there for him, unless he wants to cycle back through all the guys he destroyed in the Super Six. jhov81 wrote:

Last night's UFC on FOX event scored well in the primetime ratings. Final totals will be out soon but it won the evening in the coveted Adults 18-49 demo.

Re: 2012 Boxing & MMA Thread
Bad part about last night was Pacquiao was controlling the fight, he was outboxing and out power punching Marquez. If Pacquiao had stayed away from Marquez for the rest of the fight, he gets the win. Pacman wanted the knockout and got overconfident. He let his ego get in the way. Marquez looked like he lost the fight when you saw his face, nose looked broken to me. Just sad that Pacquiao let his desire for a knockout and over confidence cost him so dearly.

Re: 2012 Boxing & MMA Thread
Pacquiao should just walk away from it all, save for a huge payday fight with Mayweather. He's got politics to keep him busy, anyway.
It's always sad to watch a fighter at the end of his career continue to fight too long (Ali vs Holmes comes to mind). Very few recognize that they can't do it anymore.
Pac-man has impressed me many times as a fighter, maybe now he'll show me how smart he is by knowing when enough is enough.

RE: 2012 Boxing & MMA Thread
Results from Philadelphia, Saturday night (NBC Sports Network card): Bryant Jennings (16-0) knocked out Bowie Tupou (22-3) in the 5th round with a nice upper cut. Jennings was down earlier in the fight (in the 2nd round I think) although the ref ruled it a slip. Jennings was clearly buzzed from the shot, but got back on his game plan and picked things up in the 5th. On the undercard, Eric Hunter (17-2) gave Jerry Belmontes (17-1) the first loss of his career. Belmontes was down in the second, and there were good exchanges between both guys throughout.

Pac-man has impressed me many times as a fighter, maybe now he'll show me how smart he is by knowing when enough is enough. This was definitely a bad KO loss, but it's not as if Pacquiao was outclassed. He had busted Marquez up and had him buzzed, but got careless going for the KO and gave Marquez (who is one of the best counter punchers around) an opening that he took advantage of. Certainly this is his second loss in a row, but the decision in the Bradley fight was a joke. I wasn't terribly interested in seeing Pacquiao-Marquez IV... but I actually would be interested if they decided to fight for a 5th time. No interest in seeing a return fight with Bradley though.

It's usually a younger up & coming fighter that shocks/beats a legend, not a guy who's almost 40 that 1 punches a guy like Manny.

From Yahoo sports: During Benson Henderson's win over Nate Diaz at UFC on Fox 5, the Fox broadcast repeatedly cut away to a shot of the empty octagon. Was it a technical difficulty? Did someone on Fox's broadcast truck hit the wrong button? No. Diaz threw up the middle finger at his opponent, and the network cut away instead of risking a fine from the Federal Communications Commission. --------------------------------------------
lol, what a classy guy that Diaz is! A couple years ago a local MMA promoter was on 620 slamming boxing & saying how classy & respectful all MMA fighters were. Wonder if he still believes that?
