SAS's Jim Goodnight Thanks God He Went to NCSU, Not UNC
www.bizjournals.com/triangle/b...-i-went-to.html“I was accepted both here and Carolina,” he said to a crowd that included N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. “And thank God I came here, because they have real classes here.”

Dr. G gives a ton of money to the University, however most of it is on the academic side.

WOW, A strong statement from a powerful and influential person. All things considered, this may be the strongest condemnation yet by a public figure.
Carolina 's problems are like those of the Titanic. They've hit an iceberg and we've only seen 10% of the problem so far. But, the ship is sinking - make no mistake about that.

If anyone reading that wonders what he's referring to (and there are a lot of people with their heads in the sand), the answer will be found by googling "fake classes." All but 2 of the links on the 1st page reference UNC in the title.

Dude gave a math building. Don't think he has to be held accountable for lack of an indoor practice facility.

Does anyone think this will shut the mouths of the UNC crowd whose always saying that people only go to State because they can't get into Carolina? Richest man in North Carolina.

If I was associated with a group that I discovered had supported criminal behavior and unethical practices, I would not be concerned about speaking to authorities about my discoveries. Maybe Anne needs to chart a new path where she can change the attitude of others through her leadership and position of influence.

Wow - an excellent, sharp statement by Dr. Goodnight. It carries dual weight in that it comes from not only one of the most respected business leaders in NC, but also someone who is recognized for his (and his wife's) efforts to improve education. It's a continuation of a recent trend by public figures (such as Justice Burley Mitchell) associated with State to get a dig in on the Cheat's giant fraud scandal.
And I also echo the thanks and comments by previous posters about the Goodnight family's generosity to State. They have given a tremendous amount to the university, and are members of the Alexander Quarles Holladay Society, which signifies cumulative lifetime gifts of $5 million or more. They have done, and continue to do, many things to help State. I know this is a board that is primarily concerned with Wolfpack athletics, but we need all types of donors at State, so please appreciate the Goodnights for what they have done. Even if the Goodnights never give a dime to the Wolfpack Club, their efforts to make State a better university will indirectly help athletics by making the overall university a more attractive option for potential student athletes.

The good Dr.'s could care less about "banners coming down" and probably have no idea who "Swoffy," "Dickie B," "Bubba," and "Dr. J" are. They are concerned with fixing the academic side of things. The criminal side of things has nothing to do with the BOG. Hundreds of forged grade changes and no show classes....yea it'd be nice if the BOG got on this. I'm still not sold SACS can't be hushed. I mean forged grade changes and no show classes that have already been admitted by UNC? Thats enough to shut anybody down. Will it, probably not.

Being one of the richest men in the world through rigorous academic pursuit gives the Goodnights a sort of bully pulpit with a megaphone if they choose to use it. I can appreciate their desire for privacy but love to read Jim's comment where he gives great credit to his alma mater.

It seems to be a playful jab at uncch. But I bet that it is the sort of thing that smarts when faculty and administrators hear it.
“I would still like to get a college degree someday,” he said. “But not at the University of North Carolina. They just wasted my time.”

Proud to work there too. He did a jab the other day during his Quarterly webcast. Talking about some education software and he said "will that help identify those fake classes at UNC". I didn't brag about it because it was internal webcast but funny to hear another jab. He's a funny guy.
"It's about to get mythological in this......."

Re: SAS's Jim Goodnight Thanks God He Went to NCSU, Not UNC
Great story. Good to hear Jim put those snooty ****** bags in their place.
Jim was a TEKE at NC State and so was I. He put a job notice in the TEKE House for a job to pack and ship SAS user guides. I was a student. He was a good 5 years ahead of me. I took the job.
There were less than 15 people at SAS with their office in the architect's building across from Nelson on Hillsborough Street.
One day...Jim asked me if I was a math or statistics major.
I said .."no" and did not pursue the opportunity.
THAT was my ship leaving the dock...and I didn't even know it. I was more interested in doing my job...getting out of there and getting my GF's panties (which was pretty damned nice BTW).
The irony is that these days not only am I HEAVY into advanced statistics as a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt...I also use SAS JMP.
My life's been fine. I'm typing this from Milan Italy where I'm teaching Design for Six Sigma to our R&D group here in Passirana (Milan).
BUT a lesson to you Young'uns.
One doesn't normally see one's ship leaving the docks.
So in the words of RUSH..."get out there and Rock...and Roll the Bones...Get Busy".
