NC State offers Kinston sophomore Brandon Ingram
http://www.kinston.com/sports/...-1.102652?tc=crOnly a sophomore, Brandon Ingram isn’t sure where he wants to play basketball in college. But there’s one school that sure does want him.
Ingram, a 6-foot-7 wing for the Kinston Vikings, was formally offered an athletic scholarship to play for N.C. State on Tuesday evening.
The offer from Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried is the first such offer the highly-touted sophomore has received. “I could tell they were really interested, with them coming to check out my games and stuff this year,” Ingram said. “I surely didn’t expect to come this year. I thought maybe next year, going into my junior year.” Gottfried was the first high-profile coach to attend one of Ingram’s games when he showed up to see him play against South Lenoir on Nov. 27, and Wolfpack assistants and scouts have attended several more of Ingram’s games this season.
While Ingram has no plans of making any sort of decision regarding his future any time soon, the fact N.C. State was the first with an offer on the table impressed the sophomore, who also has interest from UNC and Wake Forest.

Could be he falls back on first to offer in two years when he can sign with us. He must be something special to be getting this kind of attention.
Any idea if he might go private school to up the competition and academics? Oak Hill?

Offering a sophomore in today's recruiting world has as much value as a fake $2.00 bill.

His family is actually wolfpack fans. His father would like for him to go to NC State, but he is going to allow him to make his own decision.

Dang, that's wrong! Now you got me wanting some Wilber's. Back in the day, there was this shack called Pete Jones BBQ in Ayden...not the best sanitary conditions, but some good Q. I can't count the number of times I've passed the Sandpiper, but I still have never eaten there. Maybe on the next trip back home.

He was in good shape academically after junior college. Sid promised him and promised him an offer, which never came. So yeah, I blame Sid. He was a good kid who could have helped the team a few years ago. Bryanth1a wrote:

At 6'7" as a sophomore, it is quite possible this kid is still growing. He looks to be projected as a sg, or a wing player from what I understand. I'm quite sure he will also add weight This kid could become quite a matchup problem at the next level. For that matter, I'm sure he is now.

Okay, he was in good shape academically after JUCO. That's great. How was he as a basketball player? Was he good enough for a NC State basketball scholarship? My guess is he wasn't. Otherwise, why does he land at Texas-Arlington and not some relevant basketball program? BTW, how do YOU know Sid promised his a scholly?

I'm not sure Bo ever had a chance of coming here. It was a bit too taxing of a job to recruit him for the last staff.

RE: NC State offers Kinston sophomore Brandon Ingram
I have also heard that Sid was going to offer Bo a scholly. But for some reason things did not pan out that way. But make no mistake, Bo would have helped last years team because of the depth he would have provided at the SG/SF position. He was co-player of hte year in NC his senior year. I don't think Bo not getting an offer from NC State will have much impact in Brandon's decision. As I stated previously the Ingrams are fans of NC State. His father Donald has even said he would like Brandon to go to NC State because thye like Coach Gott and the staff. But they also realize it is early and Brandon has to do what is best for Brandon. They also realize that this is a new coaching staff and are vastly different from the previous regime. Bryanth1a wrote:

Bo had offers from UT-Arlington and Campbell after his JUCO stint. So if NC State missed out on him, practically every D1 team in the country missed out on him then.

It's a matter of opinion if he could have helped at NC State. When you bluntly say Sid screwed over a kid when the kid didn't even meet the academic qualifications or wasn't even good enough for major college basketball, then you open yourself up for ridicule.
