Official Wolfpack Club Caravan Thread.

Monday April 22, Jarrett House, in Dillsboro. Coach Doeren will be the featured speaker. I would imagine Coach Harper will be there as well (she loves coming back to Jackson County).

Go Pack!

I think Coach Harper will be fired by then. Do not get your hopes up on seeing her there.

You may be right but it if that's the case it would be in State's best interest to do it after this caraven meeting, she is very well thought of in these parts, I would say just as many folks come to see her as they do the "Featured Speaker".

At 13-15, 5-11 with 2 regular season games to play, NC State will have fired Harper well before April 22 and may have a new WBB head coach by then.

Of course she is well thought of near WCU, she did great there. The State Job was/is too much for her. Shes in over her head right now. Another Jed hire.

I think Deb was pretty high on Kellie as well, it just hasn't panned out as we all hoped. I would still like to see her get another year because I think she/we have a bright future, but certainly its not my call to make. On a personal note I got to spend a little time with Kellie during the Caravan meeting in Dillsboro last year, she couldn't have been any nicer to myself, friends and family, no matter what happens with her, I wish her nothing but the best.

Go Pack!

Just curious what makes you think we have a bright future?  We're getting slaughtered on the recruiting trail.  I've been shocked by how poorly Harper has recruited.  Hey, I admit I thought Harper was going to be a star at State.  I like her a lot as a person, but it just hasn't worked out.  Barring some miracle ACC Tournament run to the championship, I think DY makes a change.

RE: Official Wolfpack Club Carvan Thread.

Nothing against anyone as a person, I am sure she is great! but Jed signed her up as a hot coach who had WCU rolling in the southern conference thinking it would transfer over to the ACC and it just hasn't at all. She needs to be a head assistant somewhere and deepen the recruiting contacts or something. I sure she is a delight in person as is her husband. I bet you TOB is a great guy and having a black and tan with him would be an event in some small bar somewhere in coastal SC or VA.

Re: Official Wolfpack Club Caravan Thread.

I went to the Roxboro one last night.  DY, DD were there, as was a NCAA compliance person overseeing NCSU operation.  She seemed on her game also.  Highlights:

DY is sharp!  Will not put up with BS.  Said Gott met with team yesterday at 4:30 and laid down the law.  She said one of the problems was we had no leader.  It was different players each game, had no one go to guy.  She hadn't talk to Gott about the meeting, but would soon to see how it went.

Football indoor practice fac. and Reynolds revonation were top of her list.

Wants all sports to be top 25.

Told the story of an email that was sent to her after the UNC loss.  A real nasty letter signed by an NCSU grad, gave degree and grad date.  She was figuring out how to answer and gave it lots of thought.

Later in the day, she got a blip on her phone about a thread that had her name in it.  It was linked to insideCarolina or something like that.  It said, "Here is an email I sent DY.
Turns out it was a UNC guy posing as a State grad.  DY wasn't happy about that.  She made a few jokes on it.

She doesn't like the blue schools.

Said Gott isn't through recruiting for the Fall.

Told story of how she got DD on board.  Said she was getting intell on several who wanted him and she was working hard to make sure we got him.  DD was her #1.

DD spoke and said he was going to work hard to bring in instate talent.  That was the top of his list.  No idea who starting QB will be.  He is evaluating the talent.  Has practice Sunday in the driving rain.  It was a gut check!

Seems really sharp and said not to get hopes up too soon.  Promised his players would give 100% and leave it out on the field.

Said he liked trick plays and had a few up his sleeve.  Would run 4-3 defense.

Said he hated to lose.  Said to email him any plays and he would look at them.

That's about it.  It was a good time.  DY & DD impressed me.  Food was good also.

Feel free to correct or add to my comments.  Thanks.

Men's soccer coach, Kelly Findley, feels good about where the team is headed.  The new practice facility is paying dividends with better recruits, etc.

Carrie Doyle, director of compliance, gave her speech about the ncaa streamlining their rules to reduce it from 400 + pages to 200 or so...   she's on her game and it won't be her or her staff's fault if something does go awry as far as any violations.  Both she and You said they not only monitor enforcement, but also lack thereof and make sure it's known to the proper channels - so anything going on with the goats is being talked about at acc and ncaa levels...

Yow, in addition to compliance, talked about the 2 major funding projects right now - Reynolds renovation, and more importantly, the indoor practice facility...  they need $14 million for that to happen.  Said standing in the downpour of rain on Sunday with Coach D watching practice made her realize that much more that the pf comes first.   Talked about how the olympic sports were moving up into top 25 status, and also those that weren't quite there yet, but said absolutely nothing about women's bb...  quite telling...
also mentioned getting the emails and how she received a fake one from a cheeter posing as a State fan that he posted on ic regarding "this is our state" and she felt that proved the campaign was working, getting under the skin of the folks in orange county. She said the threads there commented that the writer should have signed it "Bubba" to make it more realistic of a State fan - they said something to the effect of "how ironic is it that they think Bubba is realistic of State folks when their own AD is named...."

Doeren was good.  Quite engaging.  Said he had absolutely no idea after 4 practices who the QB would be - that he may not even be on campus yet.   Mentioned that every coach on the staff had either won conference championships, been in bcs bowls or coached in the super bowl and not many staffs could say that.  Said they'd been welcomed in about 75% of the high schools in the state, and those that didn't wanted to know where State had been all this time.  Doeren said each hs coach & staff was told they'd better get used to seeing State guys there all the time - when recruiting times will allow.  Also said there were actually areas the previous staff did not recruit at all, but that would change.
Said conditioning was important and they were going to have the guys able to play the entire game...   the comment he made "we'll be good fundamentally with a bad attitude" struck me.   Didn't single out too many guys individually yet.   Stressed being patient, but that the blues would know State is here.  Really wants the IPC...
nothing was said about artificial turf, uniform changes or live wolves.

If you have a chance to make a caravan where he's there - go.  It's worth it.

cost of indoor facility has gone up $2 million since Yow's August 2012 interview with PP. I am scared what $40 million Reynolds renovation/Hall of Fame is estimated at now.

Is there an update on the indoor practice facility?
We’re going to enter into a university-wide campaign in 2013 and it’s a seven-year campaign. During that period of time, two things will happen. There will be a renovation of Reynolds Coliseum that will include the Walk of Fame and History - it’s going to be beautiful - and there will be an indoor practice facility built. I can’t pin it down at this juncture.

Part of that depends, to be candid with you, on when we find major gifts. If someone stepped forward and said to WPC staff I’d like to give you a $5 million gift toward a $12 million indoor practice facility, that would change the timing.

Thanks for posting that.  I was trying to remember what the figure was initially but couldn't, and thought that $14 just didn't sound right.

This is surprising considering how the economy, construction wise, has been.   Maybe Doeren has come in with ideas of things he wants that weren't included initially.

Re: Official Wolfpack Club Caravan Thread.

Great crowd last night in Roxboro representing District 7. EasterNCstyleBBQueWolf and wulpak both gave great details from the caravan meeting lastnight and were spot on!
I was the person who asked about the Indoor Practice Facility and that created a good buzz between Coach Doeren, AD Debbie Yow and Bobby Purcell....yes Bobby was there also last night. The Indoor Practice Facility and preserving Reynolds are top priority based on Yow's comments at this time. I will add that she said the indoor practice facility would be located somewhere close to the football operations over at Carter-Finley. They are working through the potential sites.
I WOULD like to share that if anyone in WOLFPACK nation has any doubts about AD Debbie Yow....well you can put them aside. She has nothing but passion for NC State and you could feel it in the room last night! You could also feel that from Coach Doeren! We are in good hands folks....believe me she has her finger on the pulse of Wolfpack Athletics! I have never in MY lifetime been more proud to be an Alumni and member of the WOLFPACK as I am today!
I encourage anyone and everyone to go to one of these caravans....ask questions...and get to know these people! And enjoy the great fellowship with the Wolfpack Family! I certainly did last night!! GO PACK!

You may be right but it if that's the case it would be in State's best interest to do it after this caraven meeting, she is very well thought of in these parts, I would say just as many folks come to see her as they do the "Featured Speaker".

Why would Gottfried have to have a meeting with the team after the season to 'lay down the law' unless there was a lot of internal dysfunction during the season?

Why are people butthurt about there not being a caravan event in every city in the Southeast with a stoplight?

Sorry, but we can and must spend money on other things. If the meetings aren't convenient for you to travel to, surely there are other ways you can get involved besides pouting and insisting that the school and the WPC kiss your ring.
