The Obligatory, "What's going on with Calvin poll"?
ok, no need to rehash all of the specifics of his game that aren't working as well lately. however, i am generally curious what the masses perceive as the PRIMARY reason for his underperformance lately and/or at times throughout the year. fire away. one vote only please.
___ He is an amazing athlete, but not a great basketball player. We have elevated his perceived status as a basketball player, though he is really nothing more than a freakish athlete. ___ He is generally lazy. i.e., work ethic not as good as other players ___ He may have some type of depression, anxiety, etc. which manifests itself in inconsistent play ___ He doesn't have a great work ethic ___ He is physically but not mentally here. I.E., wants to be in NBA and is just going through the motions until he perceives that he will be drafted ___ He doesn't handle pressure well. I.E., great when things are going well, but panics when they are not going well. ___ He has some other type of personal conflict with players, coaches, etc. ___ There is no one thing. It may be a combination of many of the above. ___ Coaching is holding him back and/or not harnessing his talents in the right way. ___ There's nothing wrong with him. He's human, young, makes mistakes, etc. The problem lies in our expectations of him.

Lock it.
How about we act like adults and support our players and coach for a change.

Re: The Obligatory, "What's going on with Calvin
not intended to be a bash CJ thread, which is why i intentionally inserted two options that have nothing to do with him (ie.., coaching and/or our our expectations.) I guess the title may be a bit misleading, but other than that, i'm not trying to lead the witness. I'm scratching my head like lots of others.

Re: The Obligatory, "What's going on with Calvin
Why is this poll obligatory?
No one was expecting it, asking for it and nor is it required.
Or maybe you're not sure what obligatory means. Or maybe it should be re-titled, LOCKED: The Obligatory, "What's going on with Calvin? poll."

Re: The Obligatory, "What's going on with Calvin
I cannot believe all the negative stuff on CJL I have read this weekend...He had a bad game...Have any of you guys ever played or coached the game??? Sometimes you can do no wrong and then there are games that no matter how hard you try, things will not go your way..It is just like life...CJ is a great player..No one in the league gets hacked and pushed more than he does...I have read on this board where the ACC officials are suppose to protect a teams star..Well, someone forgot to tell them about CJ...I have seen folks on here complain about his attitude and his talking with officials, my question is, "Where is the coaching staff??? A coach has got to take up for his players... I am not blaming the loss to the Cheats on the officials, but by god, I know a foul when I see one..No need of pointing out CJ's push just before halftime on the guy with 3 names, I saw it...I have heard folks say that CJL is out of control and should slow down with his moves to the basket, heck he knows what is coming and he is just trying to finish before getting hacked...Don't bother telling me how bad a ft shooter he is, the fact is if the fouls are called, the big men go to the bench regardless if he CJ makes the ft's or not....I feel a run coming on by the Pack and I know in my heart it is going to be led by Mr. Leslie...Stay positive young man and keep working hard....GO PACK!!!

RE: The Obligatory, "What's going on with Calvin
I think it may simply be a matter that he is more of an athlete than a basketball player. Nothing wrong with that, it is what it is. At the high school level, his physical abilities allowed him to dominate. At the college level, everyone assumes that he just has mad skills, but seriously, how much skill does it take to dunk it? Heck, we all looked all-world on a 9 ft rim in high school, unfortunately I could only dunk up to a 9'11" rim. Now if I was 10" taller, it would change a lot. I wouldn't bash him, call him lazy, question his ethics, because I don't know him. I'm sure he has a lot of stress and feels the weight of the expectations, heck pride alone would be enough to hold most of us back in a similar situation. Going pro last year may have been his best interest, it may have been in the teams best interest in retrospect, expectations wouldn't have been as high, personnel may have been different, maybe without CJ we would have taken some lumps early on, but be a better team now, who knows? For State fans, we just need to hope for the best for the season, that the guys for being hear and continue to move forward. In all honesty, we a an ok team, not the great team we all dreamed of before the season started, but a good team that hopefully finishes in the top 4 of the regular season, and make it to the Sweet 16 again, if we do that 2 years in a row, it's a building block, hopefully we continue to move forward.
For CJ, it will take being a the next level to really focus on the basics, to be able to eat, sleep and live basketball 24/7. He has physical tools to allow him to succeed hopefully he can develop the basketball skills to allow him to play in the NBA. Regardless, he will be able to make a living playing basketball, probably a better living than the average 2013 NCSU graduate will make, he's playing the hand he was dealt, wish him the best, don't be spiteful that we have achieved the level of success that we had hoped for...
