Well - definitely seeing Gott's limitations now.
- Should have subbed Lewis and Purvis in a LOT more. Our guys got gassed at the end, in part because all our starters play 30+ minutes, including Brown who played the entire game. Definitely should have sat Brown at least some.
- Show some emotion, for God's sake. I don't me a "come on guys" look while clapping your hands when we're playing with our heads up our butts - I mean mad emotion. Seeing the guys play like that should make you disgusted and angry, not just weakly disappointed.
- Why the heck are we passively letting them run the shot clock down, down 12 with 3 minutes left? Horrible clock management. You need to instill in these guys a sense of urgency when it's needed.
CJ Leslie - dang - what can you say. Horrible game for him of course. The problem isn't so much that he sometimes plays horribly; it's that no one - neither him nor Gott - seem to do anything to attempt to change it, either in-game or between games.
CJ (he's not Calvin right now) needs a change. Really, really needs a change. Bring in a shrink. Bring in a motivational speaker. Work him out with the wrestling team. Something.
And put him in the weight room. A lot. I'm not talking for the next 4-5 weeks - I'm talking for next year, because he'll be back. There's now way he's ready for the NBA. And I don't want him back on our team if he's going to play like he is now.
He needs a lot less finesse, and a lot more power. Stop trying to draw fouls - just put the ball in the hoop. And play some D.
Right now IMO Howell has a much better NBA career ahead of him than CJ. People talk about CJ's potential - but IMO Howell has a lot more potential, because he's shown that he can learn and grow, fix his mistakes, and improve as a player. CJ has shown none of that.

We missed a lot of close shots, made half our free throws, and Leslie played his worst game since Puerto Rico. Not much else to break down.

We are not a very good team. Slightly better than average. We will probably squeak into the NCAA's, but I predict either a 1st or 2nd round exit.

Have to learn to play a full 40 minutes. Howell was a man, but too many missed layups (by several) and too many turnovers cost them a chance to win. Sloppy game. Feels like we're just repeating ourselves after losses.

Not a good game. Leslie was terrible, and the guys quit at the end.
Lots more work for Gott and the coaching staff to do.

I didn't watch much of the game, but what I saw was pretty ugly. Missed shots. Turnovers. Poor defense.
I'm excited about the future. Lewis, Warren and Purvis all seem to have the desire the others are missing.

Gott strikes again. Crap rotation caused us to be tired and he still put Cjl back in and that's when the game went to crap. We still refuse to go over screens and guard 3pt shots.

But we are not as good as we all thought we would be. We are slightly better than last year. Whether that works into a better post-season, who knows. This team is just plain streaky. Period. I also think we need more players. Our team is tired. |

Refs were horrible in that game - but they were horrible both ways. We got hosed on a couple, but we got the benefit of a lot of bad calls - probably moreso than the Heels.
