I don't see it happening. Who is going to draw all of those fouls? Hairston and Bullock sprinting and hoisting?

If what you said happens and there is funny business with the officiating I hope Gott finally loses it in the postgame and points out the blatant favoritism given to Duke and UNC by officials.

We should shoot at least twice the free throws that the cheaters do... We'll see how they call it.

But virtually every single team in America measures players' heights in their shoes - so to get a worthwhile comparison you need to subtract an inch-plus from every CHeat player as well.

And I think Leslie looks like he might be a legit 6'8" in his bare feet...I believe he's actually grown a bit over the past 2 seasons.

Agreed.  Hairston and Bullock are their main threats.  If they get hot from the 3 point line, they can beat anyone.  But both have to be hot for this to happen.   And Hairston in particular is not that consistent.  We put Lo on Bullock and tell him to guard him like his life depends on it and stick Purvis on Hairston.. heck Wood or Warren if they stay in front of him.. I know that is backward, but it is how I would do it since I think Brown can be our best perimeter defender and Bullock is the biggest threat.

It definitely looks and sounds good on paper and in theory.  But like others have said, this is UN*C we're talking about here.

What concerns me is that we played so well in the game before (a TRAP game).  I'm glad of that, but it makes me nervous for the next game.  Can we keep it up?  And did the refs call a good game last night, only to call every ticky-tack foul they can call in Chapped Hole?

I just hope we show up and play with fire and intensity.  If we do that and lose, then so be it.  I just don't want to lose because we didn't show up.

RE: Heels Playing Small Ball

The first half of the Duke game UNC really attacked with dribble drives and gave Duke fits. I am more concerned with that then their 3-pt shooting. I actually don't think our 3-pt defense has been that bad. Their small line-up gives them an advantage over teams with slower post players. Our post players are smaller and more athletic so that negates some of their advantage. Should be interesting.

In the Nose Dome CJL will be hit with 2 quick charge calls then.

I predict we do the same thing to them we did in Raleigh except for this time we have lewis to add to the mix to provide some much needed depth. We're gonna beat them by 15+. Mark my words.

Re: Heels Playing Small Ball

Carolina's new lineup could cause some problems for us. With four guards in their starting five we have the obvious advantage inside. However three points counts more than two and with Calvin's defensive lapses that could cause a problem.

With that I would match up like this.

Page-Zo
Strickland-Leslie
Bullock-Wood
Hariston-Warren
Mcadooo-Howell

Strickland is not a very good shooter allowing Calvin to play off a little and help on dribble penetration. If Wood starts getting beat of the bounce switch with Zo.

Contain Bullock and Hariston I have a hard time seeing UNCheat winning.

I have watched the past 2 UNC games and they are already flopping masters.  They have not necessarily gotten the calls, but Macadoo and Hairston drop like flies if they feel any contact.  Leslie/Howell will need to make their moves quickly and decisively so they cannot draw those calls.

It is amazing it took Roy this long to figure out this is his best line-up. I would feel more comfortable with him playing Hubert and James.

You would put the 2 worst defenders on their 2 most potent offensive players?

whatever happens, we'd better not bring that same effort we had for the 1st half of the Dook game.

Get a lead early and stay ahead...let them go up early say 10-12 points, probably not a good ending for us.

I like this matchup

Frees Wood to rest a little on D
We can always put him on Bullock some too

RE: Heels Playing Small Ball

Everybody's hailing this new line-up. They shot 6-20 from 3 last night (granted it's dark as hell in GT's new gym). They jack up 20 three's Saturday and only make 30% of them, I really like our chances. Scratch that...we win by double digits.

I heard Seth Greenburg this morning say we can't match-up with their small line-up...but, that's Seth Greenburg, so...

Well, as Gott has said, they have to guard us, too.

I'm not sure the impact of this smaller lineup has been in the 3 point shooting game but, more on the defensive end and the pace of the game. There seem to be several easy baskets in transition that just weren't there when starting Hubert or James in the middle.

No idea how long this lineup will be productive but it seems to be the best option Roy has at this time.

I doubt the conspiracy extends that far in regards to the refs.

I think we play one of those take and give games.  We'll pull away to win by five within the final minute.  A lot of UNC fans will say '****, you guys are back' with tears of happiness in their eyes.

Last night Wood guarded Snaer the majority of the game and did a good job. Snaer didnt do anything until we had the game in hand.

Warren on Hariston might not be the best but by putting Zo on Page it makes it difficult for Unc to set up their offense.

Go Pack!!

That will be the key imo. They have no other ball handler besides Page. Force Strickland to run the offense. Roy (or someone on the bench) has devised a pretty good offense to get open looks for 3's. Hopefully, they are off because they receive the ball in shooting motion - especially Bullock.

Zo destroyed Paige, which was the difference in the game and really triggered everything else. If Zo can get into the lane at will like last time, and Howell/Leslie stay out of foul trouble, then I like our chances.

Re: Heels Playing Small Ball

The cheats will attack us with he dribble drive. The way we play "D" they will either score or both CJ and Big Rich will sit out most of the 1st half with foul trouble. If we tighten up on "D" on the dribble drive they will kick the ball out where they will shoot an unbelievable % of 3's because our idea of "D" on the three is to run at the shooter at least 2 seconds after the ball has left the shooter's hands. Even if we defend the 3 they will still shoot the best % they have all year because we are N.C. State and that is the way it goes for us.

Will be interesting to see what Gott tries assuming Roy stays small. Stay with TJ in line up and go big; go inside, try and dominant in the paint area. Start Purvis for better defense; heck even play Zo, Purvis, Tyler, Wood and either CJ or Howell at times

We lost to Wake Forest on the road.

We lost to Maryland on the road.

It's going to take a very atypical performance for us to pick up this win. I'm pulling as hard as anyone for the Pack, but I don't have a good feeling about this one. Can't wait to be proven wrong.

I agree with this.
I wish I was as confident as some of the other folks on here, but I have yet to see us play a good game on the road.  I too look forward to watching the team prove me wrong.

I dunno, maybe I'm looking at it through rosy colored glasses but I just see match-up problems galore for their small lineup, but then again I see the same for the lineup they ran against us the first time.

I had a couple UNC fans coming at me today with a LOT of confidence.  Nothing wrong with being confident...but were I them I would not be.

History is not going to win this game for them.

I like our chances if we play them in G'boro, but don't see us winning over there.  We've been very poor on the road in the conference and outside of Duke, they are the best conference team we've played away from Raleigh this year.  Hope I'm wrong, but think we lose this one.  However, no reason we shouldn't win the rest of them and get a top 4 (maybe 3 seed) in G'boro.

I agree with this (there's no disputing it), yet somehow I feel better this time.  Lewis playing well has been huge for us.  Good thing is Purvis has not sulked.  At least not publically.  He was doing what a teamate does all night last night supporting the team (when he was not playing).  When he came in he played "balls out".  He just needs to settle down a little IMO.  Easier said than done when you are used to carrying your team on your back for so long.  The first time I see him give it up on the break to a teamate when he could've gone to the rim, I will feel like he's figuring it out.
