Can anyone tell me what was the call at half court with Richard Howell when he reached around the guy and then he went backcourt? I thought it was backcourt. But they gave the ball to Fla State. No need to blow the whistle if it wasn't a backcourt violation.

I'm curious about this, as well. Did the ref decide that Howell touched it after he blew the whistle? It made no sense to me.

Re: Wolfpack Players: Postgame FSU

Also the commentator said he didn't have control of it. Well he bounced it twice after Howell touched it. Plus I 've never heard that you had to have control of it once you were over on offense.

I have always understood that to be like out of bounds for the offensive team. Unless the defensive team is the last one to hit it before it crosses backcourt then its anyones ball. But if he bounces it off the offensive player its backcourt if the offensive player regains the ball without the defensive player touching it again.

The said that Howell knocked the ball into the backcourt and then FSU regained control. What really happened was the FSU guy regained control and then went into the backcourt on his own.

They made the right call first and then incorrectly overturned it.

Still confusing. So the final ruling was the FSU player had not re-gained control of the loose ball before going over the line?

I watched on scoreboard and the ball didnt cross half court, the FSU player did.  Im too busy to google the rule.  Does the ball have to cross, maybe?

Foot or any body part is a violation along with the ball

Yes, this is what I thought.  The ref that made the initial call was the one next to the play in front of the scorers table.  The one that overturned it was the one underneath FSU's goal.

I've never heard of having to regain control before going backcourt? When did that start?

Believe it or not, the PA guy at the game said it was an inadvertent whistle.

I'm impressed you got someone to buy that you're too busy to google a rule while posting on a message board.  Bravo, sir.

Don't you know?  It's those "ACC" refs, and the international conspiracy against NC State.

What did they say? I'm too busy to listen.

Edit:
Never mind, I went back and read them.  (my own little version of over and back...) We have become a very dangerous team, again.
