The NCAA was so mad at Carolina they put Miami on probation.

Many of the charges brought forth are based on the word of a man who made a fortune by lying. The NCAA enforcement staff acknowledged to the University that if Nevin Shapiro, a convicted con man, said something more than once, it considered the allegation 'corroborated' -- an argument which is both ludicrous and counter to legal practice ” -- Miami president Donna Shalala

RE: MIAMI hit with LOIC
funny how the NCAA goes overboard on it's investigations of GT and UM which happen to be in U*NC's division while allowing U*NC to skate over serious violations of the very basis of college athletics. If Miami has any balls at all this will bring down the NCAA.

RE: MIAMI hit with LOIC
Shalala response indicates that Miami will battle this extremely hard. A stronger statement than what USC gave when they were delivered their NOA. A statement that was used against USC by the COI. My guess is that they come up on the better end than the Trojans.
Comparing UNC to Miami is not worthwhile. Totally different cases and the NCAA doesn't want to open up the sham of the salaries they are paying their employees, the athletes.

Re: MIAMI hit with LOIC
Yes, the NCAA is a joke and chooses to selectively enforce the rules. Change definitely needs to occur. However, Miami is one of the last programs which should whine and complain about getting caught.
That program was a cesspool and it is hard to believe that neither the football or basketball coaches had any idea of what was going on between their players and Shapiro.
There is no doubt that UNC has been getting away with murder, and it is a shame, but it does not make me feel bad that Miami was caught. The ACC school with the far larger complaint regarding NCAA penalties levied would be Ga Tech IMHO.
"The more we learn, the more it seems UNC has made a mockery of its ballyhooed academic mission for a long time in order to gain competitive advantage in football and men's basketball." - Pat Forde 8/17/12

Even if they do, it won't matter. The evil UNC empire has enacted some sort of Jedi mind trick to remove any discussion of their transgressions from the national media. Our only hope for justice is the N&O, ironically.

If Miami doesn't file suit against the NCAA for fraudulent business practices, RICO, racketeering, etc., it will never happen. Name UNC-CH as a co-defendant.

Re: MIAMI hit with LOIC
I would bet money the rebuttal by Miami to the NCAA will include a reference to UNC, as did the Penn State lawsuit.
I think Universities are "on" to the UNC preferential treatment by the NCAA, and they are going to call the NCAA on it.
There is just too much money at stake not to do it.
What do they have to lose?

Will be interesting to see what the NCAA suggests as punishment, Miami sit out a 3rd bowl year? Miami self imposed 2, seems like losing a few ships @ most & time served because if they sit 3, is the NCAA really saying Miami's almost as bad a Penn State? How does the NCAA decide punishments, spin a big wheel like on the Price is Right?

Does anyone here doubt LOIC for Miami? Plus, I doubt they have these fine organizations in their pocket: -Governor's office -State senators -FL SBI -FL Attorney General's office -State Legislature - A BOT that has attorneys at every important media outlet in FL -Their conference commissioner is not an alum knee deep in it -No BOG to protect them because they are private....
Anything else?

How does the NCAA decide punishments, spin a big wheel like on the Price is Right? All the **** that Miami was doing...after being punished before? Don't you think this is cause for the death penalty? Loss of 15 scholarships a year, 2/3 year post season ban, and loss of revenue. They had people pay for abortions, took recruits on boats that had prostitutes, paid players. I mean, they did it all.

State of Pennsylvania is suing, not Penn State. NCAA is a joke. Oversteps with Penn State, slams Miami, gives GT too much, basically tells unc sorry for bothering you. trentjone wrote: I would bet money the rebuttal by Miami to the NCAA will include a reference to UNC, as did the Penn State lawsuit.
