THanks for posting.  Gott drew up a great play to free up Calvin for dunk 3.  I hope we see that again.
SERIOUS hang time on that 3rd dunk. Very Impressive

Speaking of CJ, he looked very calm and collected this game. I wonder if TJ's scoring took some of the pressure off of CJ and he could just relax some and play the game.

That was much more like what we all expected even exceeded expectations we don't beat many teams by 20. Nicely done Pack. RP still struggling right now hope he explodes this weekend and takes it out on the holes.

In looking at the box score, it amazes me that we out-rebounded FSU 45 to 21… They may not be playing well, but they definitely have a lot of size on the inside.

Another thing from the box score… Vandy’s stat line is about as ugly as it gets.

It seems like a simple thing, but TJW's ability to make acrobatic put back shots is about as good as I have seen.  The last one he made was incredible... Most players catch and go back up a lot of the time, but he prefers to put it back up without coming down.  It is very effective.

I hate to harp on this but I don't think Vandy is going to make it. Why not give Robinson a shot - especially last night - and see how he handles game pressure. He could be the 6-10 minute a game big man we need??

Good game PACK - take this progress to chapel hill and let's get two from them this year!!

I keep asking myself; how/when did he get so bad?
He has never been great, but at the beginning of his career there were times where he was actually effective as a lane clogging presence.  Just having him in there, he altered shots, but now...

I am for this.  I am disappointed that Vandy hasn't shown more progression.  I really thought this year he could be a 5-10 minute a game guy that would clog the middle and get some blocks and rebounds on size alone.  Still hoping he can be that, but still wish I saw more so far.

Otherwise impressive effort last night.  If we have this kind of effort every game, then we are a top 10 team.  And with the watered down state of college bball, that means potential to win it all.  We have the talent... just need this effort.  Good game, and I hope a sign of things to come.

despite their size, FSU is a horrible rebounding team. They are last in rebounding margin in the ACC.  I won't take away from what the guys did last night though.  Outrebounding ANYONE 45-21 is a hell of an effort.

Not once have I ever said Purvis sucks and admitted I've been a bit harder on Purvis than most players.  The kid has talent but he also has obvious flaws in his game.  You and others openly made this kid out to be the second coming of DT and Dwyane Wade and when I totally disagreed at those comparisons you and other gave me a lot of flack.

Now, since he's not performing that way, you and others want to say he's in a slump.  Being in a slump is what TJ Warren was in. TJ was missing shots he normally would make.  In Rodney's case, he's been having problems finishing all season long so how is that a slump.   It only appears he's in a slump because the tempo has slowed down, the competition and stakes are higher, his confidence has waned, and he hasn't played with as much passion as before.

Been that kind of year for FSU. They rank in the 300's in rebounding for a reason. IIRC Wake put a 45-24 thumping on them about a week ago

I don't know why they don't tell him to just stand in the middle and never drop his arms below his shoulders.

He's a stiff in the mold of Serge Swikker (I am not knocking Vandenburg, it is what it is and there's no reason to sugarcoat it), but one thing Dean did with him and his Lurches was to make sure they always had their hands up.  Vandy is too slow to hedge and got burned several times, and he always keeps his arms dangling.  He'd be more of a force if he just stood around the basket with his hands up.  That'll be much more of a distraction then what he's doing now.

Leslie had 2 dunks on top 10 this morning..  First was the hanging one-handed put-back that he almost hit his face on the rim.  The second was the alley-oop on the inbounds.

After thinking about it for a while, the most impressive thing is that we didn't really play a great game and still won easily.  We played good for stretches, and Warren and Leslie both had good games, but I don't think it was our best game of the year.  I hope it was just a warm-up for what we're going to do to UNC.

Awesome all around performance last night!  Have been waiting for a while for that!  Warren and Leslie dominated and the other players that got major minutes had very solid complimentary games.

Since its the Post-Game thread, I am going to find something to complain about.  First, until Purvis learns to make layups he does not need to see the court much if at all.  Don't know what is going on with him but he has missed probably close to 40 layups in transition this season.  Secondly, Vandy ohlord.

Great win, excited for the game Saturday!

I thought his rebounding was the most impressive part of his game last night.  We've seen him have great shooting nights before, but never a rebounding night like that.  13% of his rebounds for the entire season came last night.

Re: Short Post-Game Thread: NC State beats FSU

It's nice to have a game where for the most part I only stressed out about what MIGHT happen (scoring drought, Snaer getting hot, injury to a starter, yada yada) instead of what WAS happening. Except for the occasional stupid one on three by Calvin or the one or two lazy ballhandling errors by Lorenzo, this is was as easy a game to watch as we've had this season.....with the caveat that NO game is easy for me to watch; I agonize the whole 40 minutes.

Now if we can just get rid of those moments of stupidity and laziness and get Rodney Purvis back in the groove we'll be good to go for the stretch run. How can anyone not LOVE the way TJ Warren plays, at least on the offensive end. This kid has a natural instinct for being in the right place at the right time and doing all the little things that result in baskets. When he's on his game he can be the first choice for the scoring, or he can pick up all the garbage and put it in the can. Either way he will be HUGE for the Wolfpack the rest of this season and I hope for three more to come. Great game for TJ last night.

FSU was totally out-manned on the boards.  One of their big men, the skinny one we recruited, I was afraid that Howell would hit him with an elbow; it would have split that kid open.  BTW, I was surprised he played as much as he did.  The freshman that guarded Calvin looks to have potential but he's just too green right now.

Re: Short Post-Game Thread: NC State beats FSU

It was nice to see Warren keep working his way out of his little January slump.  If he can stay hot through March, look out.

Leslie has got to do something about his mindless turnovers.  They didn't matter last night, but in a close game the four or five travel calls a night are going to be crushers.  He also seems to be refusing to help on defense and his rebounding blockouts still leave a lot to be desired.  For a lot of the first 10 or 15 minutes last night, FSU's guards were cruising to the basket with Leslie just playing bystander.  I love the guy, but these little things are frustrating and I think could be the difference between us being Top 30 and us being Top 5.

Vandenburg is done for the season I think.  He is completely lost on the court on both ends.  The crowd, at least in my section, openly turned on him last night.  With him in it's like we are playing 4 on 5.  We almost let FSU creep back into the game with Vandenburg on the court.

I thought when Purvis came into the game in the first half he had a little bit of a microwave effect.  The team was starting to look a little sluggish, playing down to FSU's pace, and Purvis jumped in the game and revved the engine.  Hopefully, like Warren, he will work his way through his February slump and really contribute down the stretch.

Regardless of the pros and cons some feel about Gott, I do think he is a great motivator and psychologist when it comes to his teams, I feel like he is bringing them up to a Tourney time mentality. It may not be one and done mentality yet, but the "it's just one game in the season" mindset seems to be gone, and this team knows what's at stake for ACCT seeding. My only fear is that I feel Hess will be on the Hill and there is no way that he can't have some biased towards us.

RE: Short Post-Game Thread: NC State beats FSU

Very proud of the guys last night, the thing that really stood out was their body language, everyone seemed to be having a good time.

FWIW,
The Freshman that FSU brought in from Africa is a BEAST, you don't see many guys that are 7'1 built like him.

Agree. Vandy ain't the answer. If he's gonna play please God make him stay in the paint. If he comes out to the top of the key, gets burned and then turns and fouls again I'm going to email Yow. J/k......but it does drive me nuts.

I hate to harp on this but I don't think Vandy is going to make it. Why not give Robinson a shot - especially last night - and see how he handles game pressure. He could be the 6-10 minute a game big man we need??

Good game PACK - take this progress to chapel hill and let's get two from them this year!!

Now that's the team I have been waiting to see. High energy from the start on D. Scott with a steal and Tyler with a block.
I didn't think it would be close but I didn't think about TJ playing like it was a video game. Well done Sir. 5 starters that can go for 20+ any game.

When this team plays D like that for most of the game, they are hard to beat. Very excited about Greensboro and adding to our Title total.

Sat will be fun too. Both of us have tweaked the starting line-up.
I love that we have 2 McD's AA guards coming in off the bench.
