The B1G is gonna have buyer's remorse in a few years when Md and Rutgers offers very little in added TV revenue they "think" they are about to get. Mark my words.

I sure hope you're right. These conference TV network deals represent the pinnacle of what's messing up college sports. It sickens me.

Seriously though - the Big Ten wouldn't let unc-ch cheat.
Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney "received his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of North Carolina in 1970 and juris doctorate degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1973. At UNC, Delany was a three-year member of the varsity basketball team, serving as tri-captain in 1970. As a Tar Heel, Delany twice participated in NCAA Final Four competition."

Yep. Sounds like the kind of guy who wouldn't let UNC continue cheating.
If this happens, DDK will need to rethink the length and scope of his book.

So true. UNC owns the ACC. Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Indiana will not put up with the crap the rest of us put up with. And the reason why State, WF, and Duke put up with it? 1) Duke benefits 2) State shares a school system 3) WF is in the same political area. They have none of those advantages in the B1G.

If the Holes think the ACC is a dead conference walking, then I could easily see them jumping ship.  Looks like they have a nice little political bed already made in the B1G.

The only reason the holes would leave is if they have inside info that the ACC is going to fall.  If FSU, Clemson, and some combination of GaTech, Virgina, or VaTech pulled out, then unc-cheat would be hot on their tails.

Otherwise, they run this league and can do what they want with near impunity.  Why leave.

Complete non-story.  UNC basically has an open invitation to join any conference they want.  I don't like to admit it but you would have to be a fool not to realize they are one of the prized possessions of college sports.

UNC is a big dog in the ACC. They would be the new kid in the B1G.

The only thing the B1G can offer UNC is (potentially) more money. UNC doesn't need more money.

If you think about this objectively it just doesn't make sense.
I agree...there are many more reasons even than that...logistically and otherwise...they won't be the ones to unravel the ACC..they are in the catbird seat here.

Only possible way this would happen is if the ACC hired Wendell Murphy as the ACC commish.

I believe it first surfaced on a Maryland sports website and not a high profile one either.  It was then tweeted and retweeted by others.  The whole echo chamber thing, ya know.

This is reminiscent of the the rumors started by WV bloggers that blew up despite there being zero foundation for them.  I suspected at the time it was a lame attempt to destabilize the ACC and see if a few teams would jump to the Big 12.  WV would love to see an Eastern Division where they could play teams in the same time zone that they actually cared about.

Just thinking out loud, but what if this the same thing?  Maryland fans are unhappy with the move to the B1G.  They would feel a lot better about it if some of their old 'friends' from the ACC moved with them.  So start throwing out rumors and see it you can start something.  Not a chance in hell it works, but that never stopped the Dude of WV either.

Re: UNC has offer to Join the Big Ten

Why? They are the flagship campus of the system that bears its name. If anybody should be allowed to leave, it should be NC State so that it is allowed to grow into a comprehensive university (i.e. able to offer a law school, medical school, dental school, health sciences, pharmacy, journalism, etc)

The state of NC is growing and NC State needs to be allowed to grow. There are many health professionals practicing in NC whose health education took place in another state or another country. It makes no sense why the state of NC continues to handcuff NCSU. Texas A&M is not part of the University of Texas and this allowed A&M to stand on its own as a well regarded world class university.

Does NC State have enough political clout to prevent UNC from moving to another conference without it being a package deal that includes State. The state of Oklahoma for example will not allow OU to do anything without Okie State.

When did NC State become co-flagship?  In any event, most people would not know that because UNC bears the name of the university system while NC State refused to do so. So, it is State's own fault if people think of it in the same way as Oregon State, Miss State, Fla. State, etc. If State is a co-flagship,then it ought to bear the name UNC-Raleigh or the one that I think would have made it sound better and more prestigious...the University of North Carolina Institute of Technology....clearly...past leaders and alumni of State have screwed up when it comes to branding...

A Purdue graduate friend with some connections told me in December that UNC and UVA had standing invitations to join the Big 10. That doesn't mean they are going to leave now. But if the 4 super conferences scenario starts to happen and the ACC starts falling apart they would be already one step ahead of everyone else in the mad scramble. The Big 10 would be one step ahead also. They are choosing to be proactive. Pick out schools that you would like to join before the chaos.

if that does happen, it would make sense the SEC would want VT & NCSU to get the biggest schools in those 2 states - in addition to the demise of the ACC, does it also mean the end of the NCAA as we know it?

So you want to change the school's charter based on what some drunk TV executives are doing to put basketball games on TV?

I agree with YouPeople. We watch college sports because of proximity and tradition. Conference realignment takes those two things and wipes its *ss with them.
