Re: UNC has offer to Join the Big Ten

if you do a google search on UNC Big Ten you will find several postings.  I don't know how credible the sources are.  It was reported on Sports on one of the Cleveland TV stations.

Here is one listing that I found:

Tinfoil hat time...unc is about to get hammered. It's finally here! We can taste it!! They jump to the B1G...setting off chain of events...we have 4 super conferences. They get together and eliminate the NCAA and do their own thing...which of course includes amnesty for the most cooperative and transparent university, eva!!!! Damn!

Not seeing it. Carolina gets everything they want out of the ACC. The scheduling, the TV times, the commissioner that goes to bat for them in Indianapolis and cuts deals to keep their fat out of the fryer, the 365 hype for the Duke game, and media protection.

There's no doubt that the Big10 is going to mean a bigger payout. But in that conference you are no longer top dog. I don't care how much the commish of the B1G wants to help them, he can't make their football program Big10 ready. He cant protect them from all of the reporters in Ann Arbor, and East Lansing that want to know why they have a 100% graduation rate. I honestly don't see the powers that be at UNC going for this. They're so intertwined with the ACC office it'd be hard to separate.

Without going into a lot of detail, these sports network (RSNs, BTN, Pac12N, etc) bubbles are about to bust. Just as with the housing market, these channels are going to be going down in value as TV carriers boot them off their basic packages in order to reduce costs. The B1G is gonna have buyer's remorse in a few years when Md and Rutgers offers very little in added TV revenue they "think" they are about to get. Mark my words.

Missed the point...
No...you did.   Md had to leave the ACC because they are broke.  Nobody else in the ACC needs or wants to leave.  Nobody.   Every major player in the ACC has been asked multiple times from both the SEC and B1G over the years yet here we all are....the end.    We are a special and unique conference and it will stay that way no matter what some numbnut posts on twitter.
Maryland didn't have to leave the ACC.  They choose too.

They could cut a couple more non-revenue sports and balanced their athletic department budget.

IF, and its a big if, UNC is considering an offer to move to the Big Ten, then that is a pretty good indication about what the other ACC schools are doing behind the scene concerning UNC's cheating ways.

UNC is not leaving Duke and it is very doubtful the B1G wants Duke.

UNC is a big dog in the ACC. They would be the new kid in the B1G.

The only thing the B1G can offer UNC is (potentially) more money. UNC doesn't need more money.

If you think about this objectively it just doesn't make sense.

Does anyone really think UNC would leave the home cooking of the ACC?  In the Big Ten they would have to play second fiddle to Ohio State and Michigan.  In the ACC they get everything that they want.  The Commish is a Carolina man, the schedules are hand made to help UNC win as much as possible and the officiating is geared to allow UNC to win.

I know UNC is a big name brand but does the Big Ten really want a school that cheats to win?

Md was and is in deep financial doo-doo. Cutting a few meaningless sports would have been like throwing a deck chair off the Titanic to keep it from sinking. Their chancellor and AD are B1G homers that are new to the scene. Even with all the pie in the sky dreams of paying off debt via B1G membership, a lot of the Murlin brass STILL didn't want to leave but did so kicking and screaming.  Given that being the case, you can bet your ace nobody financially sound within the ACC would entertain the thought of doing the same.

I think you are exactly right. Too much money being thrown around, it's got to bust. ESPN is raising their monthly subscriber rates to over $7.00 a month.
What's going to happen when customers can pick and choose what channels they want? The money will dry up. Give it time.

FSU, VT, Clemson, Pitt, Louisville, GT, and Miami(if the get their crap together) make for a pretty good football conference.  If State and Syracuse can step their games up and ND joins it's a very good football conference. Get rid of The Swoff and bring in a decent commish and there's is nothing wrong with an ACC without U*NC. **** 'em

Will the politicians allow UNC to leave without ensuring NC State is not left out in the cold. The rumors are that the Big Ten wants Uva and Georgia Tech as well so who knows how many more  teams the Big 10 wants. Is NC State powerless when it comes to the politics in the state?

Re: UNC has offer to Join the Big Ten

I get the sentiment that Swofford is a UNC-CH advocate sitting atop the ACC but in my opinion Swofford did a far better job covering up the scandals in Chapel Hill while he was AD than he has as Commissioner of the ACC. It's not even close. There are plenty of factors, most notably the internet, but nothing escaped Chapel Hill until he left, not Bball players getting in fights on Franklin St., not Joe Forte, not Phil Ford DWIs, etc. That stuff happened but nobody heard about it. He was bigger than Dean Smith when it came to the cover up. Dean was still around when most of this stuff hit the fan. I have to say I am glad Swofford is in Greensboro just because he had to leave Chapel Hill to get there.

The politicians in this state will screw over NCSU any way they can. That's it's important for our administration to be proactive and get a deal with the SEC (assuming they want one) and present it to the legislature as a done deal. We will never get approval to seek out a move to another confereence. It's always easier to get forgiveness than approval.

How dare you say that. Chuck was able to snag recruits against schools offering South Beach whores on yachts with booze to 18-yr-olds with his voice and State's engineering degree. State can do things the "old fashioned" way, the kids earn it.

State already has easy degrees, but I agree with you on the buy in on the academic side should the apocalypse ever happen (don't think it will). Not only on the academic side, but from the boosters as well. Open up those checkbooks people. Don't know if we have enough. Miss St the second is what I see.

UNC has had an offer from the Big Ten since 2009. No news.

Maryland is dominated by pro sports. The Terps have it even worse than BC. There are six pro teams, seven if you count MLS in Maryland. That is tough to compete with.

VT is at least as popular as MD in DC itself and certainly more so in NOVA.

North Carolina has double the population of Maryland and is growing at a fast clip.

NC is a much better market to get into than MD.

Once again, think logically and these rumors do not add up. You can't even listen to the talking heads as most of them are uninformed on this issue,

What more could unc want than what they have now? They can stumble around drunk and naked in the ACCs front yard and nobody will give it a second thought.

Unless there are some major, major cash reasons to move, this wouldn't make any sense.

UVa and the CHeats won't be leaving the ACC at all, ever - unless certain others leave first.

So the focus remains on those certain others who are located to the south.
