Heard today that The Drake Group is on the verge of unleashing a full frontal attack on UNC and the NCAA. March and April should be interesting for UNC and the NCAA.

The only way real change is going to take place is for there to be considerable collective action from a variety of sources. It amounts to taking down an institution. This would be a welcome addition.

Seems like that would be of interest to someone.

I brought this up before, and someone chimed in that it wasn't unusual to use the same course number for independent study, even if the topic was different. Not saying what he did was legit, but it's not unheard of.

Please, please, please open that door!
It is worth noting that I Tweeted the McAdoo/Supreme Court article... and Jon Sasser "favorited" my Tweet.  Sasser is the attorney for Butch Davis.  Sasser is very vocal on Twitter about the fact that the academic fraud scandal for athletes existed long before Butch Davis... even though he took the fall.

I am not from North Carolina, so I do not know.  Is there reason to think that the NC Supreme Court would block McAdoo's case against UNC and NCAA out of favoritism?  UNC obviously has a governor in the tank.  Does UNC have the courts in the tank too?

It may do no good, but I encourage all of you to write an actual letter and mail it to the North Carolina Supreme Court.  I will be putting a letter in the mail on Monday.

Seeing as how attending class apparently is not a requirement for athletes at a "public ivy" institution, your athletes are as close to professional as they can get and still be enrolled. You and your friends must be extremely proud about the rampant plagiarism, bogus classes, forged grades, etc., while you converse in the Wal-Mart check-out line purchasing your Tar Heel paraphernalia.

It's not a "major violation" to funnel athletes into non-existent classes in order to keep them eligible?

P.S. It's "irrelevant", not "irrelevent". Had you taken English Composition at an institution that has real classes taught by real professors, you might have known that.

Ha ha. Someone comes over here and proves exactly what we are talking about, wearing the faux "public ivy" cloak while referring to blatant cheating as so-called "improprieties". This is exactly what they take pride in. Where on the scale of evolution does that belong?

Lol @ tax cheat....good one! Apparently your 11 year old is up their current events. We appreciate your generosity. And it greatly amuses us when you attempt to demean someone on an intellectual level. Yes...aligned must have studied Shakespeare at an institution that actually convened classes. Lord knows we know where he wouldn't learn anything. Please go back to playing tummy swords with your boyfriend and don't feel like you have anything to prove here anymore.

FYI...d-bag....here's how you handle the tax thing... "If he deserves it, he should pay it". But what would unc know about accountability?

Since the Brickyard thread got locked due to insensitive comments - why don't we just leave PW's post as enough of our sympathy and we can skip what his mother is.

History

The Drake Group was founded in 1999 when Jon Ericson, a former professor and provost at Drake University, invited a distinguished group of college faculty, authors, and activists to a twenty-four-hour think tank in how to end academic corruption in college sport. Included in the conference were members of faculty senates, journalists, athletic directors, and members of organizations such as the NCAA and the Knight Foundation Commission on collegiate Sport. Out of the meeting emerged an organization initially called the National Association of Faculty for Collegiate Athletic Reform (NAFCAR). The organization changed its name to The Drake Group in 2000 and also adopted bylaws and elected officers. The group’s mission and goals were formally defined at an annual meeting at the Chicago meeting in 2003.

The Drake Group Mission
The mission of the Drake Group is to defend academic integrity in higher education from the corrosive aspects of commercialized college sports..

The Drake Group Vision
The Drake Group vision is to create an atmosphere on college campuses that encourages personal and intellectual growth for all students, and demands excellence and professional integrity from faculty charged with teaching.

Isn't David Ridpath in charge of The Drake now?

I believe I remember reading that somewhere. He and Jat Smith were quite vocal to tar holes chiming in after Smith's last editorial about a month ago.

This will not be good for the holes if so. Ridpath seems like the fire and brimstone kinda guy from what I've read.
