It is quite likely that Ms. Crowder is a true blue Carolina supporter, but I doubt she is going to willingly plead guilty to a criminal charge or be the only one to face criminal charges just to protect higherups. I am sure she has a little hush fund in place that will be null and void if she talks. she also has the best available attorneys to defend her at no charge. Thus providing the nice little payday and get out of jail free card. In time we shall see, but if they are looking for fraudulent grade changes, all signs are pointing at her. no worries. Mine wasnt' directed at you it was directed at the post regarding a list of UNC "troubles". And yes you are correct that they should be in deep poo regarding the under-reporting of rapes along with other pretty despicable behavior. I know some folks who are personally involved in that situation and the way the University has behaved in mind boggeling. Go figure bonster wrote:

1. UNC is not my school. NC State is my school and always will be. 2. UNC is justifiably being sued and is under fire for fradulently under-reporting the number of rapes on campus. I support this 100%. Not sure what that has to do with lack of faculty involvement, though.
My apologies if this wasn't directed at me.

Re: Accrediting agency wants clear action from UNC
Actually the grade sheet handed in is a prerequisite to being PAID for teaching the class, and it is understood that Federal Education $$ is involved in subsidizing legitimate educational programs. Someone signed off on those grade sheets which resulted in payments being issued to Dr. Nyang'oro for classes that did not meet and were not taught. IT is not necessary for there to have been any unauthorized grade changes to be fraudulent under the law. And we know UNC recognized this because they made Dr. Nyang'oro step down from his head as Department Head, and helped him cover payment for those classes by 'deducting' the amount from his last paycheck --as if he had been paid in error. Those bogus grade sheets did not appear out of thin air. I think the SBI will find that to be the case and submit their finding to the Orange County DA. Question is will the DA take a chance on foregoing prosecution since he holds an elected position? PackFootballRules wrote:

Re: Accrediting agency wants clear action from UNC
"Sacrificing Academics on the Altar of Big-Time Athletics"
Then he concluded that there was no evidence to support a conspiracy between the university's athletics department and African and Afro-American Studies Department, which offered dozens of bogus courses over several years. He went on to say that no one may ever know whether athletes were steered to classes.
Actually, Mr. Bissette, anyone with a brain knows that athletes were steered to the courses.
Eighteen football players did not discover one of these classes on their own, by osmosis, within three days of the course being created. A star incoming freshman football player was not led to a bogus course during his first summer on campus by a woodland fairy.
Bissette noted that the panel he led was not "an investigative body." He stated the obvious there.
He, and no one else in a position of authority, cared to ask hard questions. No one apparently asked who, within the athletic department, tracked athletes academic eligibility status. What did they do when players' grade-point-averages fell to levels that put them in jeopardy of being ruled ineligible? Did the people charged with this task ever talk to Julius Nyang'oro, the person whom Bissette and Martin and Thorp would have everyone believe concocted this scheme?
Perhaps the good folks on the Board of Governors and within the UNC administration believed there would be no fallout from putting the blame on academics.
They may have miscalculated.

Slow but steady.....the pointy heads are waking up. Again, we've heard from Jay Smith, his history department chairman Lloyd Kramer, and now this Professor Emeritus from the same department. When is the outrage going to spill over? add Mary Willingham. There are others working behind the scenes quietly to instill change. Well they'd better step it up. They've got a lot of work to do, according to Dr. Hunt:
"First, there is a democratic deficit at UNC-Chapel Hill, result of a decades-old accommodation between the faculty and the administration. The faculty accepts its practical exclusion from critical institutional decisions (with curricular matters excepted) on the grounds that it can better focus on teaching duties and career advancing research."
This This fits precisely with my experience as research track faculty there. Granted, I wasn't part of the tenure track group, but I was there for 13 years and got to know quite a few. The faculty members I know at UNC just want to be left alone to do their own thing. While I was there I regularly received mass emails sent to all faculty literally begging for enough folks to fill the faculty counsel. The only person in my circle that wanted to do it was another research professor and he was a serious basketball fan (as most of them are). I hope you're right Prof, I really do. But from experience, I can attest to the fact that professors at UNC do not think like professors at State. You find yourself in a totally different atmosphere once you're there.
And no, I do not think anyone at UNC or elsewhere would call on SACS to investigate their own university. Anybody can look at the faculty response to date and determine UNC-Ch profs don't think like those at NC State. ProfWolf has this paradigm in his mind about how things operate over there that is yet to be verified by the facts. Will the groundswell/backlash happen like he and some others have predicted? I hope so.
But all this "behind the scenes" stuff is a cowardly approach to a huge problem they have on their hands. So far, except for less than a dozen, the profs at UNC-Cheat have demonstrated themselves to be Cowards and Fanboys and Enablers. That includes ProfWolf's several colleagues who work there. Tell them RB said go-heels. RB - Check your InBox.

Thanks Prof. I'll do the research. Tenure track is not always the bed of roses I'd been led to believe, but I hope the academic side realizes what's at stake in the long run. We can all hope for a solution that benefits the state of NC in the long run.

A little off topic but jut saw the definition of irony. Watching sportsnation on ESPN2 (home with the flu, not much else to do). They are discussing Johnny Football taking online classes and discussing if its appropriate for him to not actually attend class. Who do they have on to discuss it? None other than UNC* RB Gio Bernard. Hilarious.

Making it from Assistant (not tenured) to Associate Professor (tenured) is as difficult today as it was to go from Associate to Full professor just 15 years ago. The bar is much higher these days. The criteria is different in different colleges. In ours, in addition to teaching, you better have 2-3 journal articles published each year plus a few hundred thousand dollars in grant funds sitting in the bank. Doesn't hurt to have 3-4 grad students under your tutelage. In fact, it is getting now to the point where master students are not enough... the university is asking " are you mentoring PhD students/candidates." Personally, I think that is a crock of poop because we are now producing more PhDs than there are PhD level jobs.

All students must:Testing Center Rules- Children under the age of 14 are not allowed in the Testing Office.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the test room.

There are reports circulating today that UNC and UVA have been extended official offers from the Big 10... and that conferences don't extend offers unless they expect the offer to be accepted.
John Swofford and the ACC are clearly protecting UNC. Does UNC have some sort of safe haven in the Big 10? Leaving the ACC would seem to force UNC down to a level playing field. Is UNC now willing to leave the ACC because they can't cheat anymore even in the ACC???

Fairly certain both he and the Swoff were at UNC at the same time. Yes. They were there at the same time. Swofford was one year behind Delaney. Both were considered part of the campus academic elite as well as jocks. UNC tentacles run wide and deep. You can go nowhere that they do not have friends in high places.

That way her information leads Kane directly to those who cooked up the schemes and coordinated the attempted coverups, and Kane could give them enough time and opportunity to incriminate themselves.
It is quite likely that Ms. Crowder is a true blue Carolina supporter, but I doubt she is going to willingly plead guilty to a criminal charge or be the only one to face criminal charges just to protect higherups. it would be a very exciting time if Kane can get a bunch of secret messages from insiders who use code names to protect their identity. I nominate Tami Hansborough for the name 'Deep Throat'. Thorp could be 'The Spy Who Knew Too Little'.

None other than UNC* RB Gio Bernard. Hilarious. I've had (and currently have) athletes in the on-line section of my course. All exams are proctored on-campus by the Distance Ed group. If they are cheating, it is on video 'cuz there are cameras everywhere in those testing rooms. How does farmerville NCSU have such fancy things?
At UNC, they have proctors that will testify the UNC athlete didn't cheat - they don't want video evidence of anything!
Last I heard, the testing center (distance.ncsu.edu/testi...-guidelines.php) was administering about 30,000 exams each year All students must: Testing Center Rules - Children under the age of 14 are not allowed in the Testing Office.
- No food or drinks are allowed in the test room.
- If you arrive late (i.e., near Testing Center closing time) you will not receive additional time. All facilities close promptly according to their posted hours.
PLEASE NOTE: Testing rooms are monitored with video surveillance and screen monitoring software.
Oh I have no doubts about NCSU - I recall profs there that seemed more interested in weeding out students than hoping we'd graduate.
--------------------------------------------- I work in Tennessee and to keep myself busy at night, I occasionally take an online course from State. I use the proctoring services at a local community college here in Knoxville for tests. The professor faxes the test to the proctoring office with a set of instructions I am to follow. One of the rules for a test was a 60 minute ime limit. The proctor had to record the time he handed me the test and the time I gave it back to him. I was 2 minutes over. The professor docked me points for being over. I knew then that they were serious about distance education.

Slow but steady.....the pointy heads are waking up. Somewhere in the dozens of threads over the past 2 1/2 years I explained Marye Anne Fox's problems began at State when the faculty realized their voices didn't matter. I indicated then when the faculty at unc realized how little say they actually had in the operation of the university, the battle would become epic. I could still be very wrong on how this will turn out for the Heels, but more and more it is looking like the faculty are regaining control. As I've been saying for about a month now, the next thing to watch is the announcement of the new chancellor. Ok Prof, this new chancellor is named and someone(s) claim this person is a true academic and straighten things out. What "someone(s)" would you consider credible enough to listen to and believe their assessment?

What’s the old saying… “People who live in glass houses….” - I doubt Sidney’s unpaid taxes come anywhere close to the $$$ fraudulently spent by Matt Kupek and Tami Hansbrough
- You’ve got players on the same newspaper front page being convicted of assault charges
- You’ve got your probable starting RB with at least 2 DWIs and other arrests: http://www.newsobserver.com/20...e-arrested.html
- Your school is currently being investigated by the SACS and SBI.
- Your school has already admitted to hundreds of fraudulent classes; unauthorized grade changes; and bogus degrees
- Well over half (conservative estimate) of the starters on your most recent NCAA championship teams have been linked to these fraudulent classes and degrees
- Your school has had its head recruiter; head football coach; head fundraiser; Athletics Director; and Chancellor get fired/resign over the past 2.5 years because of an academics & athletics scandal that is far from over
- I’ve got more. Shall I continue???
Bet your friend didn't know a 10th of this stuff went on if they are like most Holes.

Pretty sure that firm gets its directives from a search committee. I can tell you based on recent academic hires at State, typically that search committee is very secretive. There will be representatives of relevant industries, a few faculty, and perhaps some influential alum. The process is much like the hiring of a new coach. The committee jets off to undisclosed airports for meetings and interviews. They (the committee) won't mention which airports or who they are interviewing. All of a sudden, a recommendation will be presented to the Board of Trustees. The Board will have their say, and then they will pass along the name to UNC System President Ross. Ross will put that name forward to the Board of Governors as his recommendation. In the end, lots of folks are involved in the process. The name probably doesn't make it from the search committee to the Board of Trustees without a general consensus the BOT will approve. It probably doesn't come out of the BOT without a consensus it will be approved by the BOG. The challenge is keeping that name from the public until it happens. You want the "candidate" to be able to return back to their current position without anyone knowing they were even a candidate, which is why the search firm is so important.

Re: Accrediting agency wants clear action from UNC
The history at UNC over the past 50 years or so indicates a line of thinking that athletic prominence is a direct driver of academic progress. This myth cannot be removed from the equation because it is firmly engrained in the minds of too may influential participants. Therefore, the selection of a new chancellor will not be void of this effect. However, I do suspect appearances will also play a big part in the selection. So we will likely see someone chosen who does not become an active fanboy, but lets the system govern what goes on in the athletic realm. I can see it being dialed back to what was in place prior to 1990 until this issue fades from the minds of the general public.

RE: Accrediting agency wants clear action from UNC
who hires the new Chancy ???? First the BOT task team eliminates all but three. Then Tom Ross selects the man Erskine Bowles tells him to select.....Then the BOG approves the Tom Ross selection.... I failed to mention the search firm that is involved. Many times this is window dressing to do leg work and vetting. Many times the selection is made before an opening ever occurs... believe me in this area if you want the down and dirty.
