Auburn's Toomer's Corner trees 3/22 Updyke pleads guilty
Auburn University and the City of Auburn will host a "Celebrate the Tradition" block party at Toomer's Corner on Saturday, April 20. The event will be held after the A-Day football game and will give fans one final opportunity to roll and photograph the beloved oak trees before the trees are removed. A date for the trees' removal has not been set.
"The Oaks at Toomer's Corner have been a part of Auburn tradition for generations," said Debbie Shaw, Auburn University vice president for alumni affairs and executive director of the Auburn Alumni Association. "Their removal will in no way diminish the Auburn Spirit, which has grown even stronger during these past two years."
Despite extraordinary efforts to save the oak trees, members of the university's Tree Preservation Committee say they do not see the possibility of survival.
The university's future landscaping plans will be unveiled on A-Day. Over the past two months, more than 10,000 fans and friends of the university provided their opinions and ideas through an online survey conducted by Auburn University Campus Planning and Space Management and two landscape architecture firms – Nelson Byrd Woltz and jB+a.

This will be a sad day in downtown Auburn. When we were visiting colleges for the kid Auburn was one of the ones on the list and we were able to get a lemonade at Toomers and see the tree -- albeit in a crippled state.

Re: Auburn announces Toomer's Corner trees to be removed
It will probably never happen, but Crimson Tide nation needs to step up and contribute to the plan for whatever comes after those trees come down. I know Auburn is their hated rival, but if I was a 'Bama fan, I would be incredibly embarassed that someone in my camp committed this ridiculous act. It went far beyond the spirit of rivalry - even in that neck of the woods. Bama needs to find a suitable way to be part of the solution here and show their collective support of Auburn where this incident was concerned. I would certainly feel that way if an NC State fan did something on this level against a UNC icon (for example the Old Well). Some things are just WAY out of bounds. This idiot is clearly a small minded individual and gets whatever disdain comes his way - from BOTH fanbases.

They should make him go to a library during all Alabama football games for the next 20 years, and sign a piece of paper with the final score printed when he leaves. Make him write the final score as well. Do not let that man watch Alabama play football without knowing the outcome. Ruin the excitement of the game for him. That's worse than jail time.

RE: Auburn announces Toomer's Corner trees to be removed
Auburn should sell the wood to a company that will create some sort of fundraising 'object d'art' from the wood. They should be able to raise enough to transplant reasonably mature trees into that corner.

Re: Auburn announces Toomer's Corner trees to be removed
Replace it with a stainless steel tree sculpture that is (at least to the extent possible) a replica of the tree as it was when it was poisoned. Would be easier to clean the TP from when it gets rolled and impervious to fire for those 1-D-10-T types who tried to burn them down last fall. Just a thought.

Lots of AL supporters helped out with funding for all the efforts to save the trees. "Bama fans were embarassed. It was good to see the support. Re: Auburn announces Toomer's Corner trees to be removed
Apparently it's not unusual for the toilet paper to catch on fire after the tree is rolled. Auburn places a firetruck there after each game. This last fire (early morning Nov. 18th, 2012 after an Auburn victory over AL A&M) killed all the new growth that was helping the trees to survive. It was a tough blow on top of the poison and too much for the trees to survive. (Our son lived right across the street from the trees during his time at AU, so he's kept us posted on the status since the poisoning.) Re: Auburn announces Toomer's Corner trees to be removed
These trees decay and now being removed is symbolic of Auburn's plummeting football program since their purchased 2010 National Championship with Carolina Panthers' QB $cam Newton.
Though Nick Saban probably won't give them reason to in the next decade, it's still very sad that future Auburn students will not get to experience the tradition of rolling the trees at Toomer's Corner.

It is the mixture of inactive ingriedients that make up the final formulation that would.

You should stick to what you know something about. Spike does not contain glyphosate. Herring wrote:

As I said, my son's apt. was right across the street over the bookstore. The toilet paper caught fire numerous times while he was in school. Not sure it wasn't just drunk students with a careless cigarette or a flagrant lighter who thought it was "funny."

^ I think it's a virtual certainty that someone sets the paper on fire purposely, as opposed to a drunk student just happening to stumble into it with a lit cigarette. In fact I really doubt a casual bumbing with a cig could even light the TP into a flame.

There was a program on TV called 'Mega Movers' or something like that. Anyway, on one episode they moved a 150 year old or so oak tree. Maybe that could be done at Toomer's corner, move some already huge oaks to replace the ones that died.

AU has a number of "offspring trees" of various sizes that could be brought in, but it looks like they're really thinking of doing something other than trees on that corner. Would hate to see this guy win in any shape or form. Hope the oaks are replanted.
