Actually the conference title is a 3-4 day tournament run depending on what seed you are.

See also Virginia Tech, 2007.
Dowdell and Gordon were like 31 and 33 years old respectively, I think.

Looking at UM's roster, they better make hay this season because they lose a lot of players.  Larkin, Brown and Jekiri will be back, but that's about all.

Even if we beat Miami on Sat and that is a big IF,  I don't see us finishing first.
12-6 may be tough for this bunch to reach since we can't win on the road.

Whether you "think" they are or not, not sure how they can't be. Obviously not us, and Duke has a pair of losses, including a beatdown to that Miami team. I mean Md? UVA? There really isn't a choice besides Miami.

Is there a chance State wins against Miami AND the game after too??? No really, could that possibly happen without the earth tilting on it's axis???

RE: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

after last night's 2 point win over Clemson and remembering the 1 point win at NC State, I wanted to look at the margin in Miami's ACC wins

January 5 @ Georgia Tech 13 points
January 10 @ unc-ch 9 points
January 13 Maryland 7 points
January 16 @ Boston College 1 point
January 23 Duke 27 points
January 27 Florida State 24 points
January 30 @ Virginia Tech 9 points
February 2 @ NC State 1 point
February 5 Boston College 22 points
February 9 unc-ch 26 points
February 13 Florida State 6 points
February 17 @ Clemson 2 points

not sure what this means, but i feel better now

football record prediction (2010) 3-9, 1-7 (2011) 5-7, 2-6 (2012) 7-5, 4-4
MBB prediction: (2010-11) 21-9, 10-6 (2011-12) 19-12, 7-9 (2012-13) 24-7, 12-6

RE: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

Miami the best team in the ACC? Debatable.
Miami the luckiest team in the ACC? Without a shadow of a doubt.

Also looks like they're a bit like us, can beat anyone at home, struggle quite a bit on the road.
I'm not sure why, but I just have this feeling about Miami, they're going to be like the Colts use to be. They'd have a ridiculous regular season record, they'd have a high seeding, get to the tournament/playoffs, and choke or have a bad match-up and go down early. And with all that age/experience Miami has, have any of their players ever played in the NCAA tournament?

There three games ahead of everybody....beat us on our home court...have blown out Duke and UNC. Undefeated in league play. Yes, they are the best team in the league.

We beat them if they don't give the guy 2 points after the flagrant of elbowing Howell in the face.

We beat them if we have Zo.

I would love to get a shot at Miami in the ACC tourney.  Good team, good story, good coach.  But I think we are better head to head.  Obviously they have the better record and have had a great season.

If they are a 1 seed, I could see them losing in the second game if they get a Power conference team that can press.

I'd look for this Miami team to finish out a regular season juggernaut with a postseason flop. They have played very well for a long stretch now and have been starting to get lucky in some of these close games. That luck will run out.

RE: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

I agree.  They are living a charmed life right now and could easily have 3-4 conference losses.  Like yesteday against Clemson, Miami's FT defense has been outstanding this year, particularly at end of game situations.  We gifted them a game a few weeks ago.  Still have to give them credit, their confidence is sky high right now.  IMO, it all equals out in the end.  My bet is they flame out in post season (ACC and NCAA).

They have been the most consistent..this is what you expect for a Senior dominated team. The problem is that they are at their ceiling...meaning they are as good as they will get this season. They have peaked. I would not be surprised if they lost their first NCAA tourney gamut...they may also blow out their first opponent but no worries about a NCAA tourney run or an ACC tourney title.

What team in the league doesn't have close wins on their resume? We have a ton of them (Clemson, Va Tech, Ga Tech, BC). They have crushed people at home and won on the road pretty easily really (double digits against Ga Tech and nearly with Va Tech).

Miami '12-'13 has been the poster child for "just win".

Regardless of expectations or respect/perception of your program....

If you win your games, you will eventually end up #2 in the country (likely this week)...or #1 which is very possible in the coming weeks.

RE: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

Watching them last night, you wouldn't think so, but there's absolutely no doubt they have been the best team in the ACC, and right at the top in the country. They have won all the nail biters, where we, have lost nearly all of them, until the last 2. They also have several blowout victories, including over Duke. With that said, I'm not convinced they will advance very far in the big Tourney, and I would be surprised if they win the ACCT, although they should own the easiest path, and that's what you earn by being regular season champs. They have earned that, and have had a great year.

"Luck" only gets you so far. If we we were "lucky" like that, we'd all be talking about how great we are.

Good teams find ways to win. And they've done it on the road.

They are better than us....and that's just honest no biased truth. They are the best in the ACC, and they've proven it.

When you have a three game lead between first and second place, you most likely have earned 'best team in the ACC'. Good for them. If we don't win, I hope they have the chance to win the ACCT.

That being said, if we keep closing games out on the winning end, I don't see how we can't beat them. It's all on us though, no excuses.

Mmmm, perhaps ...

However, if Miami doesn't have an uncharacteristically horrid shooting game (3-21 from 3pt), they blow us out of our own gym, with or without Zo.  They shoot that night the way they normally do from deep and not Zo nor anyone else was going to save us.  Ask Duke, ask UNC (twice), ask FSU, ask Michigan State ...  We were lucky to even be in it.

There's a flip side to every coin, my friend.

Re: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

I think so, but not by much.  They were fortunate to beat us and Clemson.

A couple of missed shots by our opponents with time expiring, and Miami loses those games to us and Clemson, and we could be tied with them in the standings.

I'm just not that impressed with Miami yet.  But they've done well.  I think they'll lose before the season is over, and quite possibly will lose relatively early in the ACCT and NCAAT.  I think they've been on thin ice a time or three and just pulled it out.

Re: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

We didn't give up wide open 3s that game either.  Miami gets a lot of wide open 3s out of the double horns for Kaji.  But we defended that well.  I also think our inside guys put a lot of pressure on their Bigs which took some from their offense.

We made some of their worst 3 pt shooters shoot a lot.

I watched that game closely and we beat Miami 6/10 on a neutral floor IMO if both teams have everyone.  I thought about putting 7/10.

I think CJL will play much better if given a second shot.

no question we have the best first 6 or 7 team in the league...the zillion dollar question is if they will play like it the entire game from here on out.
