Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

I was pretty high on Miami coming into this season and thought they would finish in the top 4 of the league.  They have all of the pieces of a very good team, size, experience and athleticism.  Kahji is a tough matchup, a 6-11 big man who can shoot the three.
Reggie Johnson is just getting back in action, which gives them more depth.

Maybe. Glad we have them in the PNC. Next Sat will be a big test for both teams

Yes. Up 2 on everyone almost midway through season. Haven't played scrubs (in conference) either. Next week is huge.

I worry about our lack of size down low against their bigs. We don't really have any shot blocking presence, so hopefully our guys can do a decent job of keeping them off the blocks.

For now yes. But no one mentions the fact that right before Duke, Miami snuck by BC with a 1 pt win. They aren't all-worldly.

Yeah, i don't think they're the best.  Playing well right now, but we're better.  We just haven't been able to maintain consistency.  (Thanks Ted Valentine and co.)  But i think after next Sat, we'll assert ourselves.

Of course, we could lose at UVa.  I really do think Gott's gotta get Jordan and Tyler in the game more.  I mean, we had a 28 point lead tonight.  Those guys have gotta give us 10/night, each.  And honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing what's his name, off the bench.  (Athletic big man)

No.  Call timeouts that we always have leftover to get our good rotations resterd.  Tyler and Jordan are good for maybe a 4 minute stretch in the first half.  Good grief.

Miami is 5-0 in conference play. We are 5-2. It is a 18 game season. So, we are 28% of the way through the season. That is just a little over 1/4th. I expect the ESPNhype machine to talk that way, but not smart NCSU fans.

7/18 = 38.9% complete for NC State

after tomorrow Miami will be 33.3% complete

we get your point, but math counts, so you get partial credit

football record prediction (2010) 3-9, 1-7 (2011) 5-7, 2-6 (2012) 7-5, 4-4
MBB prediction: (2010-11) 21-9, 10-6 (2011-12) 19-12, 7-9 (2012-13) 24-7, 12-6

Re: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

They're definitely playing the best right now, and they are going to be very, very tough to catch in the standings.  Their schedule is very favorable.  Them, Duke, and us all play each other one more time.  They have more games left against the bottom of the league (7 left against Wake, BC, VT, Clemson, and GT vs. only 5 apiece for us and Duke).  And all 3 teams have 4 games remaining against the middle-tier teams (FSU, UNC, UVA, and Maryland), but Miami has 3 of those at home, while us and Duke only have 1 each at home.  So they would seem to be the definite choice to finish first in the regular season.

I don't know if that means that they are "the best".  To me that will be determined in the ACC tournament and the NCAA's, and personally I think us and Duke have the potential to be better teams by that time.  But I'd say that they are the best team at this moment.

Re: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

Who knows, right now I'd say yes. They are the only team that has managed to not lose a game yet. Our losses to MD and Wake were terrible and wins over BC and Clem's Son were lackluster. Our team is probably looking at at least 3 or 4 more losses unless something drastically changes in the consistency of this team's effort.

Undefeated with convincing wins over Duke and UNC, so yes.  That being said, I think we beat them next week in Raleigh.  Damn glad we don't have to go to Coral Gables this year.

They have a great backcourt, a formidable frontcourt, a great coach, they play tough defense, they are experienced, and they have a favorable schedule.

I don't know if they are the best, but they could win a lot of games.

You gotta think blowing Duke out like that could be huge for their confidence.

Re: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

I thnk Miami is the best team right now.  They have more working pieces than anyone else, and play smart.  Our team needs to play smarter and cut down on the lapses, and find out how to play against size.  That said, we have a great chance at beating them in Raleigh, and we do not have to go there.  We need that win badly for national positioning.

Miami is big and strong with a bunch of seniors. They also have some very good athletes on the perimeter. Right now, they are the best team....but that can change.

They won in Chapel Hill and beat Duke like a rented mule. Their RPI is probably going to be top 2 or 3 next week. Miami is legit. We are very fortunate that we only play them at home this year.

Doesn't mean a thing...just ask NC State. lol.  Miami will have their bad games, just like State, Duke, UNC, etc. Miami is in the ACC...they will not miss out on bad losses, they will come. With that said, they are pretty good...

Welcome to sports.  Even the best have to survive a close game every now and then.  Champions often get lucky along the way too.

And for now Miami more than deserves the title 'Best Team in the ACC', but like nationwide there are not any teams without flaws or who don't have do show up every night.

At home, with a raging crowd, and the effort we put into big games, we are one of the best teams in the country--probably top five. I hope our guys view the Miami game as a big one.

Pretty sure the State-Miami game next Saturday is the CBS national TV game.

If the PNC is rocking next Saturday like it was yesterday, we will beat Miami.

They can make that claim right now. But they don't give a "January Championship" trophy.

What matters is how you are playing in late February and March.

I haven't really seen Miami play so I have no idea if they are hitting on all cylinders or if they are yet to play their best game. I what the answer is for our team.

RE: Is Miami the best team in the ACC?

We need to end the streak of not finishing at the top of the regular season standings or winning a tourney since 1989. At this point, Miami is well positioned for the former given performance to date and remaining schedule. We need to stop the mental lapses on the road and hold serve at home to apply pressure on them. I believe we are the 2 best teams in the league.
