From the Hive

"Larry Scott of the Pac 12 mentioned that they have had no progress with DirecTV."They seem to be locked in for awhile, decided not to carry the network."

Might as well tear up those projections."

Seems like the PAC 12 could really use an ACC alliance.

Dodds weighs on Big 12’s pursuit of alliance with ACC

The college football landscape has shifted recently, especially in the Big 12, which lost Colorado to the Pac-10, Nebraska to the Big Ten and Texas A&M and Missouri to the SEC in the last two years. But the Big 12 is now pursuing an alliance with the ACC that would facilitate both conferences to schedule games against each other every year and allow them to share TV revenue.

Could this alliance serve to not only benefit the Big 12 and ACC, but also to stabilize the college football landscape?

“If you walk through it, the Pac-12 truthfully has no place to go to pick up teams, except the Big 12,” Dodds said. “The SEC and the Big 10 can pick up teams but it's only probably the ACC teams, maybe the Big East. So they're the conference that could be under attack. And the alliance between the Big 12 and the ACC, I think, strengthens them. I think that the Notre Dames of the world, it would unite them a little bit, toughen them a little bit. Then I think it would be less likely that anyone could pick one of their schools up.”

Uh no Dodds, the SEC and Big X are not limited to the ACC and the Big East they could also pick up Big XII.

I think 81 is correct.

When you say "could pick up" Big 12 you are probably referring to the entire Big 12 membership, however from a value added standpoint, only Texas and OU add value to the SEC and only Texas and OU add value to the Big 10.  Kansas would be a wash.  All others represent a loss.

Texas will not go to the SEC.  The Big 10 would never take just Oklahoma.  The valuable targets are in the ACC for the SEC - any of Duke, UNC, VT, UVa, or NC State adds value to the SEC.  Miami, FSU, Clemson, NC State, Duke, UNC, UVa, VT and Syracuse add value to the Big 10.

To give an illustration, Auburn or Vandy is worth more to the ACC than they are to the SEC as the number 2 schools in their region.  Same way that NC State is of more value to the SEC or Big 10 than we are to the ACC.  However, none of this means anyone moves.

The Big 12 is a one team conference - Texas - that's unique among major conferences and on their own, West Va, Iowa State, Kansas State, TCU and Oklahoma State do not add value to any conferences' overall deal.  Their geographic regions are too small population wise.  TCU is a Wake Forest type entity.

So if Texas with Texas pretty much on the record that they will not join TAMU, that leaves only OU as a desirable target for the SEC and they would need a match, and are not likely to take OSU.
