Thompson: "A few schools have been calling me or my AAU coach, my dad or my high school coach to get a hold of me," Thompson said. "People who have called me N.C. State, Auburn, Virginia, Memphis, Alabama, Western Kentucky and Tennessee came in to see me today."

"Right now I'm going to see who all comes in and shows interest," he said. "I'm really going to wait until after the season to focus on trying to win a state championship. We are sitting on 27-0 right now so I want to focus on that."

I really like his athleticism and his potential, but I don't see a way where he doesn't reclassify. I would love to have him though.
Seems to indicate now that he will go to college next year, I think the offers from high majors have swayed him, he is young for his class though, just turned 17. On course to graduate.

true!  I think Davie send a lot of people to State.  Cole Blankenship in football and Lowery was here several years back.  Outside of sports I think you would see more Davie kids going to State than UNC.

Side note I saw the Martin twins over the weekend working at walmart.  They are some awesome kids.  Mama raised them boys right.

Oh, that's why they came to State. Having seen the Kerlina Walmart Fans up close and personal they needed to come to STATE to get away from it all! wink

Thoughts? Would Sidy qualify? The last two African recruits who committed to State didn't.

I see in the latest ESPN rankings, Duke is 5th, UNC 10th & NCSU 13th.

Man, this sure beats the days when it was just those 2 & we were no where to be found on that list!

If he's worried about beating out Vandy of playing time, then we don't need him. However, I seriously doubt he is.

I found this article on Thompson decommitting from Vandy

http://www.dnj.com/article/201...TS08/302200040/

"Darius Thompson said when he committed to Vanderbilt that the opportunity to play early was important to him. That remains a key item he’s looking for in a school."

With Purvis, Lewis and Barber ... Wouldn't his playing time be limited?

Northwood played Freedom Christian Academy of Fayetteville in the quarterfinals of the NCISAA 1A playoffs(won by 20). Northwood was a 4 seed and had a first round bye. Freedom came in as the five seed.

Northwood will get to play #1 seed Word of God today 3:30 in Mathews NC
This will be a semifinal game and may just be the match up of Djitte/Coger that didnt happen the last time these two teams met.

Re: Basketball Recruiting Thread 9.0

I wish this was true, but sadly no.  According to the Davie HS Athletics webpage, in the last 10 years, the only Davie alum to play D1 basketball was Matt "Foo" Smith (2001-2005) Wake Forest Univ.

The list is a little longer in football:

Brian Myers (1994-1997) Western Carolina Univ.
Patrick Lowery (1998-2002) NC State
David Wooldridge (1998-2002) UNC-Chapel Hill
Cooter Arnold (2001-2005) UNC-Chapel Hill
Ryan Boehm (2001-2005) Coastal Carolina Univ.
Ted Randolph (2001-2005) Wake Forest Univ.
DJ Rice (2001-2005) Coastal Carolina Univ.
Logan Buchanan (2002-2006) UNC-Chapel Hill
Raeshon McNeil (2002-2006) Notre Dame
Jared Barber (2007-2011) West Virginia University
Cole Blankenship (2009-2013) NC State

I hope that Cole and the Martin twins can keep that War Eagle pipeline flowing toward NCSU.

Regarding the other assertion that generally more DCHS grads choose State over UNC-CH, I have only 1 data point to offer.  Class of 1982 had 10 grads to attend State, and I think 4 to attend UNC-CH.

Re: Basketball Recruiting Thread 9.0

On Sidy Qualifying, the article did not mention it, except the coach thinks he is a smart kid. Sidy was going to a school, (can't remember where), where the educational environment was not good for him. He came to Northwood Temple, because they had a good program for Africans, and it seems as he has progressed nicely.

Re: Basketball Recruiting Thread 9.0

I didn't mean sports.  I think the dates are off down below.  Davie doesn't produce much in basketball and I think Logan blew his knee out and never played for UNC.

lol this is kinda funny. Northwood is a private christian school.  Nice one i might at, that does the A Beka program.  So there is no special African Program.  They do have two kids who came from Africa to the school, Sidy, and one other.  Its a nice small school with great people as administrators.

Probably gets a lot of one on one times with teachers, can really make a difference with any kid, but especially one who is trying to learn English as a second language.

I just saw Clark play in his conference tournament. They won.
He has a decent jump shot, pretty good handle and can jump. He an score when he gets the ball.
He will not be able to play inside at the D1 level. He was fading away against smaller players.
He was also not very strong on the defensive boards. But he went after the offensive rebounds.

He may still grow some and if he is similar height as Richard Howell, then he can play.  The fading away may have been a habit from when he wasn't as tall.  Good college coaches can correct certain flaws and tendencies.  Shoot his whole body can change in 20 months before he even takes the court in college.

I don't know how many times you have seen Clark play, but he is an
outstanding player. He is averaging 25 & 15. He can definitely play
a face up 4 at a high d-1 school. He is an outstanding athlete with
really good skills & he is a team player as well. He is a really good
rebounder on both ends of the court in & out of his area. By the
way you didn't mention that he had 36 points tonight & his team
won the conference championship at Garner.

36 points in the conference championship against a good Garner team.  Not too shabby and shows he might be a real gamer.  I know one of the assistants on Garner and he expected Garner to be really good this year, so Clayton winning would make me think they are pretty good also.

Clark is doubled & tripled covered by every team he plays. When you
play inside in high school like he does & you compete like he does,
then you have a dominant player. He is an above the rim player as
well, he can take the ball coast to coast & finish with a dunk as well
as anyone. He might end up as a 3, but to me he projects as a 4 &
I have seen him play more than 20 times.
