Richard Howell Rebound Watch-#5 all time
1. Shavlik 1598  2. Burleson 1066 3. M. Thompson 1063 4. Speight 1057 5. Richter 936 6. Fuller 887 7. Howell 8418. Inge 833 9. Gugliotta 820 10. K. Thompson 815 If he stays healthy, he'll likely end up #5 all-time, in some pretty good company. __________________________________

Holy guacamole 1598 rebounds? Is that in only 3 seasons too? Or would it count time played on the freshman team? Was that even a thing in the 50's? Forgive my ignorance of these bygone times.

Shavlik only shot 39.4% for his career. |

Imagine how many shots were taken in a game like that w/ no 3-point line, and lower FG%.

15 reg season games left (does this include post-season play?). would need ~6-7 per game to reach #5. that or just play Duke 6 more times.

Hopefully he plays at least 20 more games. If he's healthy 5th place is basically a lock. He could reach 1000 rebounds which would be a nice career.

He has averaged 10.4 RPG over the first 16 games. If he can average 11.3 RPG over the last 20 games (assuming we play 20 more games), then he would finish at #2 with 1067 total rebounds.

Hell, I was thinking Richter played Center on the football team  and then went on to be ALL PRO in the NFL for many years. |

Funny story about Richter: When Coach Case found out that some of his players had been drinking in the bars on Hillsborough Street during the season, he sent Assistant Coach Butter Anderson to comb the bars and catch the drinkers and kick them off the team. As Anderson was leaving the office, Case reportedly said "But you'd better not go in the Player's Retreat because you might find Richter."

In another thread, I recently said that Howell had the best motor inside of anyone I can remember at NC State since Inge. I found it ironic and a little wild when I saw this thread.

This would be a great accomplishment by Richard. Bill Russell has a ball in his trophy case for his 20,000th rebound. He told David Feherty last year in an interview that he collected those ONE AT A TIME. Same with Big Rich, he is collecting those rebounds one at a time. Russell averaged 22.5 rebounds per game in 13 seasons in the NBA. He had more rebounds than points. About 7,000 more. Unbelievable stats. I had no idea that Rich had this many career rebounds. At his current pace, he should reach 1,000 career rebounds and that is a very impressive accomplishment. Think about how many rebounds he missed because of his foul trouble.

Amazing accomplishment if he can finish up in the top 5. I imagine he would already be in 5th if he had been in the shape he is now since his freshman season.

What I like about this is that rebounding is the ultimate effort stat in basketball. Big Rich is giving it all he's got. His effort on the court is outstanding.

In an otherwise craptacular night for the Pack, Richard Howell grabbed 16 rebounds to bring his career total to 882. Needs six against the Cheats to pass Todd Fuller for 6th place.
