Ow, and check out his exchange in his ESPN chat that just started:

Tarheel fan (North Carolina)

Are we in the NCAA tourney? I hope reputation and television is a factor. Everyone wants to see us in the tourney to root for or againest us.

Joe Lunardi (4:02 PM)

I can assure you TV and reputation will not be a factor for North Carolina (or any other team, for that matter). And why should it be? Including any undeserving team means excluding a more deserving one. The tourney was fine in 2012 without UNC, and will be again if the Tar Heels don't make it.

Duke-UNC matched up in the Elite 8 (UNC-Indiana in the Rd of 32) and State-Michigan in the Sweet 16. Lunardi must love seeing rematches.

I'd have Twerps closer to a 7-9 seed as of now.  Miami and UVA in right now?  Both schools have multiple bad losses in the first half of the year.

Of the teams we've played?  Perhaps you overlooked Norfolk State?  Not sure how that happens.

Yeah, I'd have them higher, too, but we will find out a lot more about them when they go to Miami.

It's good to see State continuing to get good pub. While this is a hypothetical scenario, I like that draw to get to the 'Cuse game.

I think Joey Brackets meant 2010, but still, smackdown.

4 seed sounds about right to me at this point.

That is absolutely one thing in our favor. Our OOC schedule and record is very solid. I don't think we'll be sweating on Selection Sunday.

John Skipper will demand a written apology to his alma mater in his next Bracketology as well as a 1 seed for the Holes haha

Re: New bracketology posted ... State a 4 seed

Some other bracketology resources

Bracketville has NC State as a #5 seed playing Murray State

TheHoopsReport
has NC State as a #5 seed as well playing the winner of the Iowa State/California play-in game.

So at this point, it appears we are 4 or 5 seed.  I think we deserve it, considering we only have one loss that was a "upset" and even then they are currently a 8 or 9 seed and the game was on an neutral court.  Michigan loss is understandable.

Didn't we actually back into a 3 seed under Herb one year?

Actually, by the numbers that team deserved the 3 seed. The issue was how the team ended (literally) the ACCT semifinal game and the 2nd round game against Vandy.

Two of the worst meltdowns in modern sports history.

4 seed sounds about right. That means they would have us as 13-16th ranked team in their seeding.
Anything 5 or above would be great.

Yeah, it was actually a pretty good team...but for all the praise heaped on Sendek and his system, State was considered the "weakest" 3 seed, and was expected to bow out early (and we did), not worthy of discussion outside of 1st weekend. Talk about back-handed complements.

The funny thing about that season, if you look back, is how we seemed to stay fairly highly ranked through 2 losses to unranked OOC teams. The difference in perception and treatment of this team and that is striking.

OK now I Remember...that was the 26 pt Merryland MELTDOWN in the ACCT....I recall watching that at the beach, and it ruining the entire vacation....we then proceeded to get Pittsnoggled a few days later.

Yeah I agree...I'd just have them higher if I had to choose today.  Yes they lost to Kentucky (by only 3) and haven't played great teams, but 13 wins in a row is 13 wins in a row....tough to do IMO

RedTerrors wrote: Didn't we actually back into a 3 seed under Herb one year?
We led the ACC and maybe even the nation in FT pct that season. That's why we had an inflated record. We hit free throws at the end of games and went from barely losing a bunch of games to barely winning them or making close wins look better on paper. Maryland exposed us in the Tournament because they could and did press without fouling. Our guys committed a bunch of turnovers and missed a bunch of shots and the Terps wound up winning. Vandy did the same thing at the end of the NCAAT game. They were behind late, but pressed without fouling and forced a bunch of turnovers. The offense that season wasn't much different than usual under Herbus except for the presence of Julius Hodge and hitting FTs. We still got swept by Carolina and split with Dook, lost at Clemson. But I do give those kids credit for hitting their foul shots in the close ones.

Speaking of Herb, Arizona State is 13-2 and on a five game win streak. 2-0 Pac 12. Beat Utah and Colorado at home. Signature wins against Cornell, Coppin State, Sacramento State, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Hartford, and Dartmouth.
God, Family, Wolfpack.
