Re: ACC MBB conference standings and the week ahead
Whew! We were destined for 8th place if Wood doesn't pull a miracle shot. Now we are 5th, with hopefully a UNC loss and a NCSU win coming later this week (which puts us in 4th). From there, we just need to hold serve and keep that top 4 finish.

If we beat them at their place, I'm thinking it'll be for 3rd seed. I'm not sold on UVa - they have a much tougher schedule left than us, and I think they still have several losses to go. However if we lose at UNC, then it probably does get interesting between us and UVa for the 4th. Bottom line for us - just win. We'll be either strongly favored or closely-matched in every game remaining on our schedule. Any given loss will be a disappointment (though cumulatively I'd be happy with just 1-2 losses).

right now we shouldn't lose more than 2 games. I see UNC losing 3 and UVA losing 4, leaving us all with 7. That would put us at 5th if UNC beats UVA, correct?

I would be very surprised if UNC only loses 3 or fewer games the rest of the way. They have some tough tests remaining...2 vs. Duke and road games in general, which have been tough for everyone outside of Miami PackAttackManiac wrote: right now we shouldn't lose more than 2 games. ^Yeah but, if we beat UNC again, we would hold the tiebreaker over them. Hey, a lot a lot of weird things are going to happen before this regular season ends. Who knows, maybe the Hokies who visit the Cavs. tommorrow, pull off an upset. That would be a nice start. We're definitely still in the race to pull off a top 4, we just have to play well. I'm hoping that last second shot by Wood, pumped some much needed adrenaline into this team. GO PACK!!!

Duke should have lost last night to the worst team in the league. Anyone trying to predict what will happen ahead of time (especially on the road) take note. UNC and Virginia could go 2-5 or 5-2 down the stretch. You just dont know.

Looking at the conference standings from a standpoint of road wins(+1) vs home losses(-1) reveals:

They have been killed against Miami and State. State's problem is they can win in the final minute...hopefully that turns around soon.

Because we beat UNC head to head, we are back in 4th place. Never thought I'd be so happy to be in 4th place. Strange season.
We HAVE to beat Virginia Tech. It's a must win if we want any chance to meet any goals for this season (which I think has to be improvement over last season at a minimum).

We are better off if Dook and Miami go ahead and win out, because we ain't catching them, unless they lose out....plus it helps our RPI.
Getting to 3rd place would be a very nice achievement given where we find ourselves mid-conference.

UVA should lose three of its next four (@UNC, @Miami, Duke) which means that we take third place if we win out.
We've shown that we can compete with Miami and Duke so I think we have a real shot of winning the tournament if we get that 1st day bye. It becomes very difficult though if we finish 5-12.

So who should we be pulling for in UNC vs. UVA? If UVA wins and we beat VT that puts a game between us and the Cheats, but it keeps UVA's lead over us. I guess go UVA?

RE: ACC MBB conference standings and the week ahead
2nd place is a long shot but I haven't quite given up on that yet. Duke has Miami one more time and at UNC. They could lose those two and that would give them 4 losses. Looking at who they have left, @maryland, @VT, and @UVA, they could easily lose to one of those giving them 5 losses. We just need to win these next two at home and hopefully that 3 game win streak gives us some positive momentum heading into UNC. We somehow win that game and I think we run the table.

It's certainly very feasible for us to win out. We'll be favorites probably in every game except @UNC, and that one will be close. Do I expect it? No. But it's certainly feasible.
One game a time though. Beat VT.
