State could have used Mays' seven rebounds and four assists in 23 minutes at Oxford in the UVA game last night.

Re: Julius Mays @ Kentucky?
I liked Julius Mays. He was an excellent free throw shooter. Lowe should have let him play shooting guard position instead of trying to make him a point guard.

^ He's on the basketball team at Kentucky, not the track team. Apparently he's fast enough for John Calipari.

Re: Julius Mays @ Kentucky?
if he had of remained at State, then he would not have had to sit out the year that he did at Wright State and would have used up his 4 years finishing up last year as his senior year. Unless he had reshirted one year. He had 2 years of eligibility left when he transferred fron State, he used 1 at Wright State (and sat ou a year) and now using his 4th year at Ky. ^ That's correct. Also, once he got his degree at Wright State he could have returned to N.C. State and played this season.

Re: Julius Mays @ Kentucky?
Nice game for Mays yesterday. By John clay — Herald-Leader Sports Columnist COLLEGE STATION, Texas — At the end of the post-game news conference, Julius Mays rose slowly out of the folding chair in the small room inside Reed Arena, half a grin and half a grimace on his face. Uncle Julius had put in a full day's work. "Julius, without him, we don't win today," Kentucky Coach John Calipari said. The first-year senior scored 19 points, burying four of six three-pointers, including a clutch triple that gave UK an eight-point lead in regulation. Then, in overtime, the Indiana native stepped to the free-throw line and made five of six, including three of four in the final 15 seconds as the Cats held off Texas A&M 72-68. And, oh yeah, he also handled defensive duties on A&M star Elston Turner, helping limit the Aggie to seven field goals on 23 attempts, including 1-for-7 from three-point land — a far cry from Turner's 40-point tour de force at Rupp Arena three weeks ago.

"Uncle Julius" as he's known in Lexington lit it up again this weekend. KY 90 MO 83 (OT) Julius Mays had 24 points on 6-12 shooting, 4-8 from 3, 8-9 from the line, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and only 1 turnover. Game ball.

can't remember the posters name but he swore up and down that J Mays was an average YMCA player and that when he played pick up ball with him you could tell he was not very good.

If you can hit shots and not turn the ball over, you can play on a D1 team.

--------------------------------------------- That person was most probably a troll. I'm glad that Mays is doing well at Kentucky. I always liked him. By all accounts he was a good teammate, good ambassador, and hosted some key recruits (who we landed) on visits. I always thought Mays was a solid player who was woefully misused by Lowe. Had we let him play SG then I think he'd have been just fine. He was just another of Sid's failed PG experiments. Oh, and Mays always looked like Mike Tyson's little brother to me. The similarity was uncanny.

Re: Julius Mays @ Kentucky?
Coach Cal knows what Mays means
"I don't know where this team would be without him."
That's how Coach Cal sums up Julius Mays' one season at Kentucky.
"He's ended up taking on a leadership role and done a great job with it. When he scores, we're really good," Cal said, "but when he doesn't score, we're still okay because he'll rebound, he'll assist and he's giving a calming presence. His thing is 'I wish I was coached this way for four years.' "
