Julius Mays @ Kentucky?

Julius Mays @ Kentucky?

Ok, I must be living under a rock because I just realized he was at Kentucky this year. I thought he went to Wright State or something? The question is how was he good enough for Calipari to take him? He basically stunk it up here. Is he eligible to play this year or does he sit out another year?

He is playing for kentucky this year and getting quite a bit of pt. He sat out a year, played a year at wright state then went to kentucky and was eligible immediately using the RW rule.

Yes, you apparently have been living under a rock. Just to bring you up to speed, Ryan Harrow also plays there and no one has used the word rulz with a z since the nineties.

playing over 30 minutes a game. Big time shooting slump but he does have the best pump (shot) fake in college. He just needs to keep faking and not pull the trigger!!!

No he is not eligible this year. Calipari is just seeing how much more he can get away with by playing him in this game on TV. Eventually the NCAA will catch him.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect... but actually, from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly... timey-wimey... stuff.

RE: Julius Mays

in other news Norm Sloan signed a little guard from Crest high school who they say might be pretty good! Calimari needs some guards, his left and he picked up Mays "on the cheap", is going to carry them far with his bud, Harrow, probably not. He has gotten better since his days in W Raleigh.

It doesn't mean you are living under a rock.  It just means you are not obsessed with 19 and 20 year old kids who play football or basketball.

Re: Julius Mays

Didn't basketball expert Dick Vitale recently single young Mays out for harsh criticism implying the scheme whereby college graduates are allowed to transfer and enroll in grad school without suffering a one year loss of eligibility as is the case with undergraduates is a disgraceful sham unfairly harming the college coach, in this case Billy Donlan of Wright State, who nurtured the young man for four years or two years in the example of Mays?

Be that as it may congratulations to Mays winning a spot in the starting lineup of the defending national champions.

These posts always crack me up.

Yeah man, we're all obsessed because most on this board have happened to catch one of the 137 UK games ESPN has already aired this season.

Mays is THE gypsy of college basketball.

I don't know if that is really true. He just seems to be making the most of his college basketball opportunities. Didn't want to play at NCSU under a previous coach that didn't seem to be too good at developing college talent and kept bringing in players to keep Mayes on the bench. He went to Wright where it played in obscurity and got lots of playing time and developement. Then went to Kentucky to sit a year and practice against some of best players not in the NBA and sort of lucked out with the lack of guard depth this year to start and may get some pro notice somewhere here or overseas. I think he did well for himself.

College teams are always well-stocked with talented players we've doghoused, poorly developed, or relegated to bench duty. Next year, Jevoni will likely go on to be a super dunking machine at another program. TDT is probably halfway to UCLA by now.

Well, Mays is not exactly killing it right now. He's averaging 9 points a game on 34% shooting.

SABOTAGE!!!

Calipari knew he wasn't getting Pete Maravich when he signed him up. He got leadership and teamwork.

Leadership and teamwork are probably at a premium with a bunch of one and done-ers.

I know this is completely unrelated but I also didn't feel like this deserved it's own thread.

Did anybody else watch the Kentucky/Vandy game last night?  At the end of the game the refs counted a basket for Kentucky even though the shot clock had clearly gone off.  I forgot who forgot was announcing with Bobby Knight, but they started discussing the play.  Bobby Knight was really confused about the shot clock and why the Vandy coach was so mad.  He was having trouble understanding the difference between the shot clock and the game clock.  I'm not sure if this was because they were looking at it on a little monitor, but it seemed really odd to me.  Wonder if age is starting to catch up with Knight.

Knight thought the game clock was the shot clock, and then he wouldn't admit he's an old geezer and tried to explain away his mistake. He's old and a sociopathic control freak, what else is new?

Yes, the only thing worse than refs Tony Greene, Ed Corbet, and (didn't recognize the third guy) making a horrendous call against Vandy, and then an even worse make-up call against UK immediately afterwards was Knight having no clue what was going on.

It was probably the most embarassing moment I can remember for an announcer since Pat Summerall continuously gave the wrong score through the 4th qtr of a football game years ago.

Yeah, that was pretty awkward for the play-by-play guy.  You could hear him pause and take a breath before he tried to cover up Bobby's..........mistake.

I hadn't seen Bobby do a game for a while and I was shocked by his appearance.  And throughout the game his analysis was, um, not very sharp.

btw, although I never saw his face, I'm pretty sure the play-by-play guy was Rece Davis.

He has made a mockery of the very legend he made and in typical Knight style he could care less.  Their comes a time in every coaches career where the game passes them by.
