And it was a pretty hard 2 handed push. That's all Johnson needed to get position to make the tip-in.

Would love a better replay view to look at it, but every angle I've seen is behind the play and impossible to tell if he pushed.

Thanks.  And yes, that was a NO-DOUBTER. Two hands in the back and shove.  Wow.  That was really, really bad.

5th foul on RH was totally bogus. It took RH out of the game and resulted in a 6 point swing at a critical time in the game. Typical Duke flop that the refs fall for time and again. Hope we make the NCAA tourney so we can play on a level playing field where the refs don't award the blue teams 42 free throws.

I agree, you can't make the call with incidental contact...unless you are also going to call the hand check prior to that contact.

While Howell does commit some dumb fouls, he is not nearly as physical at Tyler the Traveler. Howell gets called for many questionable fouls while TtT got away with murder most of the time without getting called.  Bunch of BS.

The first foul called on Rich last night (on the opening possession no less) was more of a foul on Wood than Rich.

RE: Refs and Howell

The calls Duke got last night is precisely why they crash in the post season. They are masters at getting tick-tack fouls called on the opposing team (See Howell's 5th against the guy with the Easter Island head). However, when they get to the NCAA Tourney, those calls are not made with nearly the same frequency. So while they are still diving, and Mike is screaming his face purple the other team is scoring or taking the ball. Sometimes Duke has a physical presence that can overcome that in the tournament and they do better. Outside of Plumlee, they are not physical at all. With him flopping they are less likely to be around for the Sweet 16 or beyond.

I've seen that call made dozens of times.  If that elbow didn't hit Plumlee in the face, it came a centimeter from it.  You simply cannot swing your elbows across like that when you've got a defender in your face.  Rich knows as much.

Tough way to foul out, but he's gotta play smarter.

I just want consistancy. Don't let 'em play for three quarters of the game and then switch it up. We have been involved in a bunch of loosely officiated games this year and it should have worked to our advantage. The truth is, that our big guys aren't dominating the paint like we thought they would on either end of the court. We miss Deshawn big-time.

There were 2 fouls last night that were terrible calls. The over the back when he went straight up was a good rebound.

As I see it, this year it's not about the calls that are getting called against him. It's the calls he's not getting when he gets absolutely pummeled about fifteen times per game.

This.

GT was mauling him and Leslie underneath.

The refs have been criticized for blowing the whistle too often. Now they are letting them play, and of course that is unacceptable as well.

You guys will always find something to complain about.

"Letting them play" should apply to both ends of the court.  Sure our guys got away with a few reaches (saw 2 that Warren should have been called for), but Howell and Leslie were getting mugged underneath with zero calls, while some of the fouls on us were ticky-tack.

Again, all I ask for is consistency.

Zero calls? It doesn't appear that you watched the game. Howell and Leslie took a combined 8 trips to the free-throw line.

Last night was a fairly-officiated game. The refs miss calls on occasion, on both ends of the floor. That's to be expected.

Georgia Tech fans are complaining on their board that the refs helped us more than them.

When will some people realize that every fanbase thinks there is a conspiracy for the refs to get their team, not just ours. The refs don't have anything special against US.

RE: Refs and Howell

I know the game had more calls our way than theirs (in terms of numbers) but their whole defense is predicated on doing what used to be (say mid 1980s) fouls.

IF they called inside fouls they way that they used to (consistently and only for real advantage gained situations) and Gtech played the way they do now - they would foul out every starter every game.

In other words they would have to change the way they play D and actually PLAY DEFENSE (ie get to the spot first and defend - not push someone who is shooting or making a move to the basket who is faster and more talented than you).

The announcers were all over this in general - that the fouls (inside especially) have become too lax - and that allows many teams that lack talent to stay in games by pushing/shoving/knocking cutters off line/etc).

The game would be so much better to watch if they made a concerted effort (and it would have to be all refs - and start for a new season - and make it clear beforehand) to call fouls inside.

Initially there would be lots and lots of fouls but soon the coaches and players would adapt and you would get real basketball again where being faster and a better shot gives you an advantage that pushing you cannot nullify.

The games would be faster paced too - games in the 70's and 80's were mostly higher scoring than now despite having NO shot clock OR 3 point line.

And hand checking (not 2 hands - ONE hand) was also always called a foul. Thus people stopped doing it.

GO PACK!!! WAX WAKE!!!!

That's exactly right! Refs don't just hurt you by fouling you out, they take you out of the rhythm and ruin your performance for what little you do play.

Re: Refs and Howell

When our own announcers (who arent nearly as homerish as other teams`) are saying the refs are missing multiple travels, and fouls, especially where CJL was mugged one time, I know the refs are not being fair. Yes, we had our own problems, but the refs just finished us off.
