Refs and Howell
Up to this point Richard Howell has performed up to and exceeding his potential. Today, enter ACC refs and what happens? He spends a lot of time on the pine. The attitude of ACC officials towards Howell is really revolting.

Please. He knows the drill and still made some stupid fouls. His reputation precedes him and that will not change. He needs to get smarter.

There shouldn't be a reputation they are calling from though. Call what's happening on the court, not what you might think is happening cause of "tendancies". Using other conference refs, they don't seem to see anything wrong with what he's doing and they have no reputation to go on. Clearly there is a problem here and I don't think it's Richard most of the time.

RE: Refs and Howell
I've enjoyed watching Howell dominate this season but he'll get no sympathy from me. He's been in the ACC for four years now. He should know by now that he's not going to get away with stupid reach-in fouls. He has to play smart, play like an experienced senior.

Tuned in late. Missed his first two. #3 and #4 were dumb and dumber. #5 was a clean block

Rich hasn't had any issues with any of the touch fouls he was called for today all year long. Does anyone think that he all of a sudden changed the way he was been playing when the ACC refs stepped on the court?

Was that TV Teddy? If not he acted just like him.
I am assuming they were ACC refs as Howell fouled out.

Howell has made some stupid reach in fouls in this game. If he cut that out, he wouldn't be getting fouled out so much.

Coach Gott may have to do what Deano did about Montross. He called them out on it. It worked.

RE: Refs and Howell
Every big man gets a foul or two called that simply aren't fouls or are things where they couldn't have done anything differently to not get the foul, just the nature of the position. When you add that to Howell's inability to avoid a really stupid foul or two or three (usually with absurd reaches) you have the reason for his foul trouble

I've been critical of the ACC refs for good reason, but if the rest of the games are refereed like the bonnie game, I feel hopeful for the season.

The officials were terrible. They simply didn't call fouls the same way at both ends of the court. How many times was Scott Wood hammered & held right in front of Eades with no call? How about the time the St B point guard had the ball coming up court and simply smacked Lewis is the chest with his forearm and lewais was called for the foull? I could name a number of other times those 3 clowns didn't do their job correctly. It's amazing how well we do when the officials are from another conference that doesn't have pre-conceived ideas about how to call fouls on State.

I swear to Buddha, when will State fans stop blaming the refs?? It really is embarrassing that we still have fans who do this. EVERY TEAM'S FANS complain about refs. Nobody likes it when they think their players got 3 more fouls called than the other team. Take off your ********* rose colored glasses. There were numerous times today when I couldn't believe our guys weren't called for fouls down low. It goes both ways. The other night when we shot a billion more free throws than Stanford - I'm sure their fans were bitching a moaning, too.
You people who complain about refs after every game look like ******* retards. We won this game going away and people are STILL complaining about the refs!!!! Un-*******-believable.

My espn3 feed wasn't too good, and I also didn't pay close attention to the ball as I was looking at offensive and defensive sets. From what I saw, they missed some both ways. I'm sorry to hear you think this. Maybe Gott needs a fat fine. Hope he makes it count.

Missed a bonnies goal tending call too, so I think us a little of both. Refs may be coming down on the beard, but the beard needs to stop making it so easy for them.

I wasnt watching closely but i think his last foul was a joke. St Bonnie guy was fouled by like 3 state players and nothing was called, rich gets a clean block and is rung up.

I saw Brown shove a defender to the ground late in the 2nd - no call. To me, the worst call was the charge on Purvis in the first half. THe defender did not have his feet established and Purvis didn't drop his shoulder, nor push off. Horrible call. Funny that it seemed like the black ref and Eades made all the calls while the salt/pepper haired ref left his whistle at home. We got more calls cuz we were aggressive down low, but it sure would be nice for us to get a 50/50 call because we're playing at home. That so rarely happens, esp in the ACC.

RE: Refs and Howell
Howell gets fouled a lot and the refs don't call a lot of them. Many times after Howell gets fouled with no call, he turns around and commits a cheap foul...the refs don't miss his fouls though...ever. On his 4th or 5th foul the day, he got hit pretty good on a rebound...big guy from St. Bonnie was all over his back...caused Howell to lose the ball and then reach and get rung up. The foul committed and uncalled was much worse than the one that was called.

Re: Refs and Howell
I have been to all the home games and this by far was the worse officiated game. Refs were inconsistent calling some ticky tack fouls and letting hammer fouls go. Late calls, no calls and even waiting for the player to complain before they called the foul. I really did not think that the whole staff was qualified officials! Wow this crew did not work well together at all!

Sean Hull called an awful game.
Mike Eades was one of the officials that wore "KH" on his shoes in the acc tournament, but I thought he was calling it as he saw it today and was consistent.
Of course we were playing the Bonnies, not the heels.
