Scott should really get a minimum of 10 shots every game for the rest if the year. He is just too much of a weapon to not utilize. I know he really cannot create his own **** but we should run enough plays in a game to get him at least 10 shots.

Postseason counts also.

Staples' and Redick's numbers are insane.  I realize they played 4 years, but good grief!!!  Think about the number of attempts to get to those levels.

IMHO, if CJ  would kick the ball back out to Wood/Brown/Lewis just a few more times a game, it would really help the half court offense.  He tends to force a drive to the basket several times a game that often hurts our momentum.   Wood seems to be more patient lately in getting good looks for his shot.

The first time I ever watches Staples play, I said to myself "this kid will set every single 3 point record there is".  It wasn't quite that, but it was close.  His release was so freaking quick it was absurd.

I think our offense is designed to always find Wood a shot on every possession.  If we can't, then we feed it to the post.

But then everyone would say he is not leading the team enough. He needs to make his own shots. I am not giving you a hard time, I am sure you are correct, but CJ can't do anything right on this board some times.

As far as Scott breaking Hodge's starts record, wow, that is awesome. I hope he can pass Rodney's 3 record as well. It is good for new guys to come along. that is how it is supposed to be.

The thing about it is, if Shackleford and some of the other bigs could have finished at the rim, Corch would probably be up over 1100.   Still #2 all time behind Hurley, but Hurley played a lot more games and had Laettner and Hill on the receiving end of those passes.  Chris is the best passer I have ever seen.

Minor point - Shack and Corch actually only overlapped during Corch's freshman year, when Corch was competing with Kelsey Weems and Quentin Jackson for minutes.  Over Corch's main 3 years Shack wasn't playing - the main go-to guys on the team were Kevin Thompson, Bryant Feggins, Rodney Monroe, Googs, and Mickey Hinnant (who here remembers that guy?).

Point stands though - though Thompson wasn't bad - in general we had a fairly weak backcourt during Corch's tenure, compared with the frontcourt at least.  Imagine if Corch had been here 2-3 years earlier - and had more time with Washburn, Shack, and Chucky Brown as bigs?

RE: Scott Wood - 3pt Record Countdown

Oh I know they only overlapped one year, but I can remember about 6 or 7 in a couple of games that Shackleford blew the lay ups after great passes.

Again it did not hurt having Rodney on the receiving end of a lot of those passes, but there were a whole bunch of bunnies missed after passes by Chris.

Let's bump this to the top for tonight's game.  Scott goes for  #300+ tonight so maybe he can reset the career high he has against FSU and get 8.

23 to go to tie Rodney.  I hope he gets it done!

Dennis Scott's 351 three-pointers are pretty insane for three years.  He only played in 99 games, compared to Redick's 139 games.

Keeping that pace (3.5 per game) for 139 games, Dennis Scott would've finished with 487!

former Terp Brian Magid is similar.

Approximately 500 Duke students were waiting at Cameron Indoor Stadium on Feb. 5, 1977, when Magid dribbled a basketball out of the visitor's locker room some two hours before tipoff.

"So, I'm shooting around," Magid recalled this past week by telephone. "At first, they were heckling. Then I guess they sort of got the idea to come down and put a couple dollar bills on the court."

Magid timidly approached the first bill placed some 20 feet from the basket, then fired a shot from the spot and it swished through the basket. He went to the next bill, some 25 feet away and canned that shot as well.

"It's like anything else, the more time goes by with the story, the farther out the dollar bills get," said Magid, who admits to hearing over the years he hit a half-court shot that day.

Magid picked up the bills and tucked them into the waistband of his shorts.

When he returned to Maryland, he handed the bills to his father, who framed them.

The framed bills remain in a box somewhere in Magid's Bethesda, Md., home today.

Good point, Drummer . . . NCAA implemented the longer shot  in the '08-'09 season, the year before Wood's freshman season.

Wood shot against the longer range for his whole career, which (since all those other guys shot at 19-9) makes him the ACC's #1 all-time for 3-pointers at the 20-9 distance.  cool

He's still shooting about the same percentage (just over 40%) as Redick and better than the others except Rodney Monroe (43.6%) and Dennis Scott (42.2%).

I was at that game and JJ would shoot after a couple dribbles past half court, right in the middle of the RBC logo.  We would have won if he didn't go all "JJ" on us.

Staples isn't a fair comparison.  I feel like he played at VA for about 7 years.  It seems like he and Donald Hand were both there forecer.

I think he definitely passes Monroe, and has a real shot to pass Childress. He would have to go nuts and / or we would have to make it to ACC finals and NCAA finals for him to go any higher than #5 though.

Haven't read the thread - so this was probably already covered - but has Wood played in a lot more games than Monroe?

Wood is good, but he's not even close to what Monroe did - not even close. Maybe Monroe didn't do as much as an underclassman as I thought - but he was a scoring machine by his last two seasons.

Don't see how Wood is even close...
