Keep in mind we have only played 3 games at home, so that is weighed into the calculation. Our 2 quality wins were both on neutral courts. 1 neutral court loss and 1 road loss. Not sure if UConn moved back up, but we were 1-2 against top 15 RPI last week. All played away from home.
Right.  I did mention above that home, away and neutral games are all weigted differently.

My scenario above was assuming neutral court games in order to make the explanation as simple as possible.  If both games had been on neutral courts, then what I said is accurate.

However it can't be ignored that we played UNCA at home, so losing to them would have added 1.4 losses to our record.
Even worse.

RE: Yearly RPI Sagarin Pomeroy Ratings Thread

Basically I do not like the RPI - especially the adjusted RPI (with the home and away games counting differently).

I prefer (and think they show better correlation with reality - including the NCAA selection history) the Sagarin and Pomeroy - which usually end up being very close to each other by the end of the season (and also close to the ratings at danceard - which are very good at matching the NCAA selection committee).

The RPI is obviously not the only thing used by the committee - as the way the dancecard (and Pomeroy and Sagarin) are usually closer to the field picked by the committee than the RPI adjusted or otherwise.

Still interesting to see it all play out over the year - especially a year that we will stay closer to the top than we have in the past (often flirting with 100+ RPI/ratings until we got into ACC play.

Go PACK!!!

Good points. I think, subjectively, the committee would see how we responded to our weak performance against OK St. (survived UNC-A...it happens) and battled back against Mich., down to the wire. The RPI is just one piece.

It's just nice to see this team still well regarded, in some sense, despite the "poo-pooing" on the performances.

Honestly, looking at this team, I think they are a 6-7 seed, with a chance to work up to a 3-5. Where that falls RPI/Sagarin/Pomeroy, who knows, but this is still a good team, with a good chance of being a great one. JMO.

RPI projection actually has us splitting with UNC...and only projecting a 1 point loss to Duke at home. Projections for our games at Cameron and the Dean Dome aren't as pretty. Other projected ACC losses are @Maryland, @Virginia, @FSU.

Well - after beating Stanford (through games of Dec 18th) :

RPI #10
Sagarin #29
Pomeroy #29

Eerie convergence of Sagarin and Pomeroy.

GO PACK!!!!
Note also - the projected record from RPI site is now 11-7 ACC . Hmm. We won a game - are rated higher (at 10 vs 13 before) and it pics us to lose a game that it predicted a win before.

Interesting

Great to see the Pack so high in the RPI, especially pre-ACC season.

Sadly, with how weak half of the ACC is, the ACC schedule may hurt our RPI.

RPI is kinda meaningless this early in the year.

We're obviously not the 5th best team in the country. Kudos to Gottfried for crafting a schedule ranked 4th most difficult, though.

We're flying a bit under the radar now. If we win our next 5 games, however, we'll be back in the top-10.

I think that the Rpi is never the best indicator. The Sagarin and Pomeroy are much better and both of those have us close to the top 20 which is where the polls should have us imo.

Now that we have fallen out of the top 10 I think we are playing like a top 10 team right now.  A lot of the 1 loss teams in front of us in the polls would get their *** kicked by the Pack.

do any of these take into account past and future opponents or just past opponents in determining rankings?

I agree that the talent, the experience and the coaching NC State has would mean only 2-3 ACC losses.Perhaps the experts are also factoring in ACC OFFICIATING into their predictions about conference records.

Yes, the mathematical formula RPI is factoring the paranoid delusions of certain Wolfpack fans into its projections.

since that is the women's teams, I do not think it will impact NC State's MBB RPI much, if at all.

Stanford MBB plays Louisana-Lafayetter
UCONN MBB plays Washington
