Bobcats add some much needed help in the front court by acquiring forward Hakim Warrick for guard Matt Carroll who wasnt playing much anyway. I like the way new GM Rich Cho is trying to rebuild the Cats.

They certainly aren't going to be "good" but I agree they're definitely better than last year.  They need to get lucky in the lottery this next year or the year after.  And stay in solid position with respect to the salary cap.  Once the more punitive measures start hitting, the Bobcats could be in a good position to pick up some more expensive players for short-term deals.

I am yet to get an answer to the weird (non) TV arrangement in the Raleigh market....

I live in eastern Wake county...and have DirecTV. However, the Bobcats games are NOT on FSN--Carolinas or FSN--South (WHY?), but instead are on SportsSouth. When I tune to SportsSouth, it tells me the games are blacked out on that channel. Is there some kind of FSN alternative channel on DirecTV that would have the games? Right now basically, there are no viewing options for Bobcats games...even on the off chance I wanted to watch them. What gives? Anyone?

Seems like I remember hearing the NBA has some kind of weird territorial blackout rules...but it's crazy for the team to try to build a market share in Raleigh and have the games blacked out. Makes no sense.

I'd love an answer to this also.  Heck, last week their game with Dallas was the game of the night on NBA TV and it was still blacked out.  wtf? ohlord

^It's utterly ridiculous to have a 'blackout' when there are literally no options to watch the games. But apparently the games are available on TWC on FSN alternatives for at least parts of the Raleigh market...and TWC doesn't even carry SportsSouth!

So DirecTV carries the network...and the games are blacked out. TWC doesn't carry the network...and the games are available on alternative channels.

Just seems like a complete TV cluster**** for Bobcats games.

RE: Charlotte Bobcats 2012-2013

If you had Time Warner you would be fine. Apparently DirecTV is not showing the Cats outside the 100 mile radius of Charlotte.

I found this post on a message board about this very issue:

Actually it is 75 miles but DirecTV can narrow it down that small. You will never get them see play unless they play on TNT or ESPN which is very rarely.

I live in Chapel Hill and I haven't been able to watch the Bobcats since they moved their local games to Fox Sports. The Bobcats claim it is DirecTV who needs to pony up for the territory broadcast rights. I think it is poor business by the Bobcats when no one else outside of the greater Charlotte area can ever watch them. How they ever expect to grow their fan base is beyond me.

However I refuse to purchase NBA league pass (which will not get you the Bobcats games either) from DirecTV for this reason alone as I do think they should pay the extend territory fees for as much money as we pay them.

Here is a link to my post from 2008.

^Thanks for the info!

ah...so there is a ******* match between the Bobcats and DirecTV that is at the root of this. Should have known. But I don't understand the '75 mile' stuff. Is that an NBA rule about 'local TV', or is that something DirecTV made up or what?

My understanding is that it is a decision DirecTV made on their own. It really is ridiculous that folks in North Carolina that want to watch the Cats can't.

^I don't understand how DirecTV can make up arbitrary boundaries (ie 'within 75 miles') where they will show the games and where they won't if they have an agreement to carry the channels that show Bobcats games.

That being said, the Bobcats should do whatever it takes to get maximum TV coverage in the state if they care about building a statewide following like the Hornets had. Of course, they also have to get a lot better for that to happen too.

RE: Charlotte Bobcats 2012-2013

Nice game last night, granted against the John Wall'less wizards, but that same Wizards team took the Celtics to the wire twice(guess that is not saying much so far either). Kemba is getting better it seems, even though he was under the weather last nite put up a nice game. Mullens didn't shoot well but played hard. Sessions was aggressive and provided some scoring, MKG played with lots of energy as usual. I think the team fed off him on both ends of the court, and he is really good in transition...something that we've been lacking for a while. Sessions, Gordon, MKG, and even Jeff Taylor are nice additions. ab

Tyrus Thomas seems to be reborn as well playing with lots of fire.

Only thing I wish is to see a bit better play out of Biyombo, he's still a baby, but it would be nice to see him make some progression, he still seems awfully confused out there at times.

Should be a tough one against Minny tonite, but maybe we have a shot with them being without Pekovic.

I think the individual teams and not the league as a whole requires cable and satellite providers to pay for the rights to broadcast the Bobcats...

On the cable side, the Bobcats have never tried to work a deal with Charter Communications who has a large footprint in Western North Carolina and Upstate SC. I've even heard that people as close as Mooresville NC and Lancaster SC (non TWC cable areas) also don't have the Bobcats games shown.

I have always been under the impression that Time Warner Cable arrangement was a condition that was set in exchange for naming rights to the arena.

That was one reason why I was happy that I dropped Charter and got Directv...and BTW, I am farther than 75 miles away and can get them.

Bobcats beat undermanned Minnesota in an ugly game, but a win is a win and that is three in a row for a team that only won seven games last season. Walker and Sessions are making the Bobcats look respectable

RE: Charlotte Bobcats 2012-2013

Lets Go Cats! They are racking up on wins against banged up teams, but hey that's way better than last year! Kemba is the man and Sessions has been great so far.

I'm frustrated too, I have DirecTv and live in Johnston County...can't get the Cats games. And like someone said earlier, even if I paid for the league pass I couldn't get them because they will be blacked out because of local tv. And then they are blacked out on the local channel! So basically no matter what package you get or how bad you want to watch the Cats, it's impossible with DirecTv.

What year is this?!

I don't understand the lockout rules, but I watched the game on Sports South on DirecTv and I live in Harrisburg.  Channel 651 (or 650).

Cats almost blew it.  In fact, tried to blow it.  I mean, who calls a timeout with no timeouts remaining?!?!  <insert michigan joke here>.  16 point lead with 4 minutes to go or so and the T-puppies tied it up at the end.  Thank goodness Kemba is playing like the UConn Kemba.

In addition to their TV rights being completely screwed up, the Bobcats also are an epic fail with their radio "network" (and I use the term loosely), which has NO affiliate in the Raleigh Durham market.  THat's right, they couldn't even find some AM station powered by an EZ-Bake Oven light bulb to carry their games.  And they wonder why they have ZERO fan base in the State's second-largest and fastest growing media market?

The people running the Bobcats make Lee Fowler look like management consultant material...

Charlotte is playing the hottest team in the league in Memphis, maybe the Grizzlies will be a little tired after that tough win over the Knicks last night.
