Re: NBA regular season opened October 30

The heat looked good, especially with Ray Allen, he was like 7 for 9 or something. Boston made a late rally like they always do, although Lebron had cramps in the 2nd half.

Didn't see the Lakers game but I know Dirk didn't play.

Kyrie Irving's fast

All you need to know is that the Lakers are running the Princeton offense. Please fire Mike Brown. Please.

Heat will run away with this thing. Especially if the Lakers can't get it together.

It is simply unfair the amout of shots that Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis will get wide open this year.

Brown couldn't coach offense in Cleveland, and his two attempts in Los Angeles have been dismal failures. It should not be hard to install an offense that will play to the strengths of Kobe, Pau, Dwight, and Steve. Why he wants to make this harder than it needs to be is beyond me.

Lin and Harden looked to be a nice combo last night.  I still don't think Harden was worthy of superstar money.  However, if he brings that level of play night in and night out, then I will be as wrong as two left shoes because last night he looked like a superstar.

Why aren't they running everything through Nash?  I do not like the way they're using him right now.

Because the head coach is an offensive moron.

I agree Brown is definitely not using Nash correctly.  You don't use a gimmick offense when you have a true point guard.  With that being said, IMO Nash was/is an overrated addition to the Lakers.

At the end of the day, he's a 38, soon-to-be 39, year-old point guard who even at 28 had major problems playing defense.  I don't care how great a physical condition he is or how much he works out, there's only so much you can do to fight off father time; trust me, I know.

Nash is going to wear down during the season and be a weak link for the Lakers come playoff time.

I doubt the go 0-82. With 80 games left I'm sure they'll figure it out.

agreed.  he is terrible, doesn't help that they are trying to run a princeton offense.  nash is a master of pick and roll and they have dwight howard, this ain't rocket surgery.

making things too complicated.  portland looked pretty good last night though.

How come nobody is talking about how awesome Lebron was? I mean its almost like everybody dismisses his play like we did with Peyton and Brady. Excellence has become the norm.

I was at the ATL Hawks vs HOU Rockets last night. James Harden was an absolute beast. He looks like he's worth every penny.

On a side note, I got to attend a small meet/greet for Season Ticket holders with new GM Danny Ferry before last night's game. He took Q&A for about 30 minutes. My years at NCSU were 85-89, the same as Ferry's playing days at Duke. I related remembering some great NCSU/DU battles back in Reynolds Coliseum. I also asked him what he thought about NCSU being ranked #1 in the preseason ACC MBB poll. He got a big grin on his face and said, "see you at the finish" and then we all chuckled. Ferry really has Hawks fans energized down here. Reminds me of how enthused Gott has us for MBB.

Hawks should do well with Ferry.  He was great at Cleveland

Re: The Official 2012-13 NBA Thread

It will take Ferry a couple of years to pull the Hawks together. He has already gotten rid of the awful contracts given to Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams in just one off season. Look for Ferry to bring in some talent next year to pair with Horford.

The question in Atlanta is: "Will this team be built around Josh Smith ?"

I think Ferry will use the upcoming season to evaluate Smith as a number 1 or 2 option on offense and decide on Josh's long term future with the Hawks.

Re: The Official 2012-13 NBA Thread

Ferry was specifically asked about the assessment of Josh Smith and how he fit in going forward. Ferry was diplomatic and said that Smith was "a very good player that I want to be  great player". He added he was in Josh's ear "every day". Clearly Josh is auditioning for his future in an ATL uniform. He played very unevenly in the opener against the Rockets, a few great plays and a few WTF jump shots that had the home crowd groaning....

The Lakers would be so much better if they ran NC State's offense thru Gasol at the high post but no way Mike Brown could comprehend that O.

Celtics look like they have their rotation in order with Terry starting and Barbosa and Jeff Green looking good off the bench, win 3rd game in a row and look to be ten players deep while awaiting the return of Avery Bradley.
