Series Thread: Minnesota at St. Cloud St

The Gophers are heading about an hour NW this weekend for a HUGE showdown with those pesky Huskies. Gophers are ranked ahead of them, but trail in the conference standings. Really a chance for us to make up some serious ground.

A Proud Minnesotan to the day I die

Just got settled in at the National Hockey Center and the students are already rowdy. Just had a good "Golden Chokers" chant start up. Also had an SCSU student in a Gopher jersey get called a traitor by the whole section for about two minutes.

What a great environment for playing college hockey. This place is so small it's like playing in a tin can, making it really loud when the Gophers are in town.

Fair warning to all Gopher fans before we start, I have never attended a Minnesota road win. This includes hockey, basketball, and football.

What I'm trying to say is don't get your hopes up this weekend, and if the Gophers lose, it's probably my fault.

Should mention that the starters I was given have Condon on the right wing. Might be a typo, not sure yet.

My internet is terribly slow so I will likely have to put a lot of info in one post.

SCSU gets two great chances in front but Wilcox turns them away. Huskies are flying out there.

Ben Hanowski just clanked a post on the break. What a shot that was. You can see why this team is leading the WCHA right now.

And another chance on Wilcox. Can't withstand this for long.

Gophers put the puck in the net but the goal is waved off on the ice. Not sure why, it will be reviewed. Sam Warning started the play with a pretty dangle around the D.

Budish slammed it home but they might say Warning hit the goalie on his way through. Live, the goal looked good.

Gopher goal that gets waved off. Think the whistle blew so it'll be no goal.

No goal. Faragher's helmet was off before the puck went in. Tighten that chinstrap, young man.

Alt wiffs on a puck at the blueline but Wilcox makes the save in the open. SCSU getting into space and making place.

Budish with a perfect chance out front and he nails a pipe. Had the goalie beat cold.

Budish clanks the post. Wow. Could be 2-0 right now.

GOAL Bjugstad. Rau tried to wrap it around and Bjugstad slammed it home. Gophers up 1-0.

Huge getting the first goal of the game, especially on the road.

Jonny Brodzinski will head off for interference. Tied up Warning a bit too much on the draw. First powerplay for either team.

Gophers score on the powerplay but Rau might have been interfering with the goalie. Goal is under review.

Budish with a goal. The SCSU player was pushing Rau into the goalie so the goal should stand.

Budish could have a hat trick of waved off goals, in the first period, if this gets waved off.

Call reversed, no goal. Looked like Rau got pushed into the goalie. Pretty sure that was a bad call. Trav, what did you see?
