Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Some have probably forgot we have a season going on because we haven't played in a while, but we're back tonight!
BC takes on Alabama Huntsville starting in a few minutes (crazy blowout expected there), while we drop the puck against the Falcons of the Air Force Academy at 7 on FSN.
A Proud Minnesotan to the day I die

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Boston College easily took care of business against a struggling Alabama-Huntsville team 5-2 to open the Mariucci Classic. Eagle head coach Jerry York earned his 925th victory, making him the winningest coach in college hockey history. Big congrats to York on his accomplishment.
Puck drop for the Gopher game is in less than an hour.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
I have some lines for tonight for Minnesota. A few changes than the usual.
Kyle Rau Nick Bjugstad Nate Condon
Sam Warning Erik Haula Zach Budish
Tom Serratore Travis Boyd Seth Ambroz
Ryan Reilly Christian Isackson Justin Holl
Some unique defensive pairings. Partly because Mike Reilly is playing in the U-20 tourney but also because I think Lucia wants some different groups back there.
Seth Helgeson Mark Alt
Jake Parenteau Ben Marshall
Brady Skjei Nate Schmidt

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
There are a ton of Air Force fans in attendance tonight. Solid Gopher turnout as well, still a few minutes before puck drop.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Nice chance early on a great pass from Haula to Warning. Couldn't find the handle and didn't get a shot off.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Unreal chance for Minnesota. Puck was behind Torf but it stays out of the net. That was crazy.

Haula sneaks one by Torf on a bounce off the end boards! 1-0 Gophers

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Haula scored from behind the goaline. I believe the puck hit an Air Force player's stick and went in. Parenteau and Warning get the assists on the goal.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Gophers dominating right now. Just a ton of offensive pressure. Air Force having a tough time clearing the puck.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Very quick period so far without a ton of whistles.
Rau finds Bjugstad for a great chance in front but the Blaine native can't convert. Gophers still hold a 1-0 lead with 8:32 left in the first.
Minnesota has a 9-1 lead in shots on net.

Helgeson gets called for roughing. Weak call.

Here is a VIDEO of Erik Haula's goal. Nice hustle by the Gophers to make something happen.

Gophers easily kill off the penalty. No real chances for the Falcons.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Minnesota gets another chance on the break but the net comes off. Great play thus far from the bottom two lines for the Gophers.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
And that's the end of the first period. Gophers still lead 1-0 and hold an 11-4 edge in shots.
Minnesota has dominated nearly every part of the game tonight, not giving Air Force any opportunities, even on the powerplay.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Air Force has a bit of a jump to their step to start the second. Gophers haven't been able to have as much sustained time in the offensive end.

RE: Series Thread: Mariucci Classic
Bjugstad gets hauled down in the corner and the Gophers will head to the powerplay.
I will say that I like the way Bjugstad has been playing this game. He hasn't tried to do too much, letting the game come to him more. He has had a tendency recently to try and do it all himself because he is the best player on the ice.
