This kid is really good. Excited to have him as part of the pride on ice in a few years. Really skilled at such a young age for a defenseman.

RE: New Commit

Vannelli is a 6-foot-2 defenseman who totaled 7 goals and 18 assists in 25 games last season for the Minnetonka Skippers. In three games this year, he already has a goal and five assists.

Vannelli was reportedly offered a spot on the Nation Development Team in Ann Arbor but turned it down to play his senior season for Minnetonka. A strong two-way player, he has the potential to be a high draft pick in the 2013 NHL Draft. Like I said before, this is a great pickup for Lucia and one that the Gophers needed to keep at home.

I'm hoping to check out a few high school hockey games this year. Minnetonka vs Edina should be good. Watching Vannelli go against the likes of Connor Hurley and Tyler Nanne would be fun. I also have to see Shane Gersich of Holy Family play. Kid put up monster numbers last year and picked up a Gopher offer a couple weeks ago.

Just when I start to think all the best kids have left for the development team or to play juniors, a new crop of elite players pops up in Minnesota.

That's every year, man. Minnesota High School Hockey and the ridiculous amounts of talent it produces.
