Re: Game Thread: Omaha at Minnesota

Sorry I didn't start the weekend series thread this week. Just forgot! Hopefully we can pick up a sweep this weekend to build off of last weekend's one. Sam Warning is finally back from injury so it'll be nice to have his presence on the 4th line as a gritty, tough player.

Warning will be a key addition. Having him in the lineup helps to move some more scoring to the lower two lines, making for a more balanced offensive attack.

I should note that the UNO defensive is MASSIVE.

They have guys at 6-7, 6-8, 6-4, 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2 with the smallest guy weighing in at 192 pounds. The smaller Gopher forwards will have the speed advantage on the Olympic ice but likely won't want to head into the corners with these monsters.

6-7 and 6-8? Where do you find hockey players that large?

I always think Bjugstad looks huge out there and these guys are both bigger than he is. Dean Blais knows where to find these goons.

Serratore, Michaelson, and Parenteau make up the third line.

Condon is with Boyd and Ambroz.

Rau, Bjugstad, and Isackson stay the same.

Usual D pairings of Reilly-Alt, Helgeson-Marhsall, and Schmidt-Skjei

Gophers get an early shot on net. Jaycob Megna (6-7) and Andrej Sustr (6-8) started for UNO and they looked to move really well for big guys on the point.

Gophers will a quick start, coming out of the gates fast.

Solid student turnout tonight. They are pretty packed and loud. The same can't be said for the rest of the arena which has plenty of empty seats.

UNO with two big chances on Wilcox but the freshman turns both away.

Amazing goal by UNO on the break. Perfect pass across the ice for a dive tap-in. Schmidt and Isackson didn't lock their guy down even though they were in position. 1-0 Mavs.

Gotta put that one on the Minnesota D. Either Schmidt or Isackson should have tied that guy up with ease.

Two early offsides on Minnesota has slowed some decent rushes up the ice.

For those that missed it, HERE is the goal from UNO's Dominic Zombo to give the Mavs a 1-0 lead.

Budish scores! He got a perfect pass right out in front and buried it past Faulkner. 1-1.

Budish scores his 4th of the season. Assists from Warning and Haula. It was Warning who fed Budish all alone in front. Great for Minnesota to have Warning back on the ice.

Ambroz gets hooked on a breakaway and Minnesota will head to the powerplay.

HERE is another video, this one of Ambroz getting hauled down on the breakaway.

Big thanks to our friends at FSN for the video highlights.

Gophers can't get anything going on the powerplay and will have four seconds left with the man advantage.
