Game Thread: Tennessee State at Minnesota

Tip is at 7 at the Barn. Game is on ESPN3 for all of you wondering. If you don't get that, they do have a link up on First Row Sports.

Solid team, very fast and athletic.  They were the one team to beat Murray St. in the regular season last year, and they return everyone from last year.  Saw them play in Brookings on Tuesday and definitely need to be ready for them.

Gophers are in their all-white jerseys for the game.

The Tigers have a few plays to watch.

#1-Kellen Thornton-The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging 14 points and 6.5 board per game.

#2-Patrick Miller-Miller, a 6-foot-1 junior is averaging 12 points and an amazing 9.5 assists thus far.

#33-Robert Covington-The senior forward leads the team in points (16) and rebounds (8).

Like kingcrazy said, this team looks a lot more athletic than the other teams Minnesota has faced. Gophers won't be able to get the easy steals for fast break points.

Really empty game tonight. Not a big student turnout either. Good thing the new sound system is loud.

Here comes the tip and TSU takes possession.

Great defense by TSU but Austin hits a three at the end of the shot clock. 3-0 Gophers.

Gophers defense is really strong right, forcing a handful of bad shots.

Austin hits two free throws and it is 7-0.

He follows that up with a layup on the break. TSU runs and scores on a dunk then presses, getting a steal off of Dre.

TSU is following and shooting. 9-4 with 15 minutes left.

Dre nails a contested three then comes up with a steal and is fouled.

Mbakwe into the game for Elliot. He is the first sub off the bench for Minnesota.

Dre makes both FTs. 14-6 Gophers.

Mav, Ingram, Oto, and Welch enter the game.

Welch travled while trying to inbound the ball. Not a play you see too often.

At the media timeout, the Gophers lead 18-6. The are shooting 50% from the field.

TSU on the other hand is just 2/10 to start the game.

Similar to the second half of last game, Gophers are in foul trouble. Six fouls with over 10 minutes to go in the first.

Mav makes a three off the backboard as the shot clock expires. Mbakwe gets called for the foul at the other end, his second. Big Mo coming into the game for Mbakwe.
