Just a few short days until the opener!

What is with the lack of traffic on the board?  Let's get some excitement started here!

We have the first episode of Brick by Brick!

Re: Just a few short days until the opener!

Not trying to hate, just stating a personal opinion and observation. But I will just say that the publisher/editor(s) that run and curate the Minnesota Scout site (particularly when it comes to driving site traffic and new users to their message board forums) leave A LOT to be desired when compared to some of the other much heavier trafficked Minnesota message boards and fan sites out there (i.e. Minnesota 24/7, Gopherhole, Minnesota Rivals, The Daily Gopher, etc.).

If they were to put more effort and new/unique content into the Minnesota Scout site I personally believe we would see a meaningful uptick in users and overall activity on the board. I don't know if it is a chicken/egg thing, but they are lagging when compared to what some of the other put into their sites. Again, just my two cents. There are some great board members here on the Scout site, but agree there could be a lot more traffic on this site if it were run more robustly.

Re: Just a few short days until the opener!

A lot of us don't post much except during the season.  I read the board a lot but hardly ever log on.  I am not really impressed by the other sites.  I don't need a thread started to complain about every single pre-season prediction that picked the Gophers to finish in the bottom half of the B1G or threads about every single practice and telling me how Berk Edwards looked or whether recruit XXXX from XXXX enjoyed the barbecue.  I like the football games.  That is it.  Regardless of all the man drama soap opera we all include in recruiting and everything else in the end what matters is 12 Saturdays (well sometimes a Thursday) and the result on the field.  No amount of analysis can predict who will win the game.  Thank you Scout.com for keeping a free board and keeping it normal.

I love college football but I don't get all OCD about it.

gopher illustrated is ****. if i cared about recruiting i would start following twitter feeds. every once in a while ryan burns will make **** up to get the sucribers excited, doesn't take much to tweet "rumor has it there is a game changer about to commit". recruits are realizing that they can go straight to the fans (and the retired postal carriers, as TOC used to say) on twitter, facebook and other social media sites. i don't need gi to tell me that someone has committed when (if i cared) a twitter feed could do the same thing. soon, gi will be nothing than a pay board with a bunch of insulated gopher fans who never leave their bedroom.

gopherhole is alright except there are a lot of homers and perennial optimists. i try to hold my tongue when the homers are posting.

TDG is ok, i'm sure, but i don't expect anything groundbreaking from them.

i don't know anything about 24/7, but i'm not really interested in recruiting.

I agree with N8's sentiment.  I burned out 2 years ago when I actually had to cover recruiting.  I don't really care that much about recruiting any more.  We get who we get and I'll be happy no matter if the kid is a 4* or if he's not rated.  It would be nice if we had someone local who could cover games live got to press conferences stuff like that, like when we had Grant and Travis running the site.

I also agree with N8's statement about GI.  Way too many teases going on over there.  I remember a few times when we'd break a commitment here there'd be a post over there saying oh we were told to keep it under wraps but we knew for a while. That was always a laugher.  We took it as reporting the news if we were told a player was going to be making a decision soon we'd post that.  If a player was going to commit but wanted us to wait to break it after he had informed the coaches we'd wait until we got the go ahead. We wouldn't post BIG COMMITMENT COMING SOON....  That may drive up view counts and clicks but at the end of the day it's pointless.
Shhh..... My Common Sense is Tingling.

I'm local... But I had class during press conferences all last year and likely will this fall again. I will say that Brice and I are trying to find a student from the J school to do more coverage but it's been difficult as all of my colleagues in the J school are either Strat Comm like myself or just don't know anything about sports. If anyone had particular things they want to see covered shoot me or Brice a PM.

Re: Just a few short days until the opener!

Long time no post from me.

I am excited about the season. Tickets for the opener and Iowa game in hand. Schedules permitting, excited about getting my kids to their first gopher game if possible too.

As to the site. I honestly have migrated over to The Daily Gopher. When we were without any publisher for a while there wasn't much happening here. Started going elsewhere and haven't had a real reason to come back. Honestly, I miss the days during the "height" of the brew years when things were popping here. I pop in occasionally, but usually only if there is a dead period like they had earlier this summer. Granted it is not a true forum site, it gets me my fix most of the time.

Hope all are doing well!

Frodo, you graduate from college yet?
101, are you still keeping us free ? Where is base now?
N8, still working on hipster fixed gears?

Later.

I have tried to get hooked on SB Nation but its too dry.  I might not be giving it a long enough chance so i booked marked it and will give it s shot the next few weeks.

I do hit up the other sites, I had too when this one was so focused on the paid side and not many posts or reading material.  Gopher hole has a lot of posts but you really have to wade through a bunch of crap to get to anything good.

Rivals has good info on social media that is out there.

247 is great on general stuff

but the one that i like the best is the Scout of old where there were more than 5 guys posting.  i even miss the trolls coming in and getting everybody on edge.

This season is going to be historic and i hope guys come back for the season and stick around for the basketball and hockey seasons too

It always picks back up again around football season.  It is now officially game week and a short one at that with a Thursday game.  I am officially excited.
