Kill on Saban's Salary

Nice link

Kill think Saban earns every dime of his salary.  Thoughts here?  I think athletes and coaches are overpaid in general, but if you compare them all to their peers, I would say that Saban probably deserves what he gets.  Someone was willing to pay him...

I have a hard time believing any college coach is worth almost $7M.  Alabama football makes a ton of money so from that standpoint, the college can definitely pay that salary.

Saban is known to be a great recruiter, but you do not need to recruit to land top talent at Alabama.  It is the same way with Florida, Florida State, Texas, USC, Ohio State, etc.

I disagree, remember early 2000's Bama was not even close to the juggernaut it is now.  They had just 2 10 win seasons and were rather average. This remains the same going back to 1997. Stallings left and Dubose took over, Bama had a 1-10 win season and were otherwise bad to average.

Lets look back from 2002-2007 the years before Saban took over, they were  37, 45, 19,16,18 and 22 in the scout recruiting rankings,  Then Saban comes in 1, 2, 4, 7, 2, 4, 1.  That's a huge improvement from where they were.

So I'd argue yes you do need to recruit to get top kids to come to Alabama.   But that still doesn't justify a $7million a year contract, that's an absurd amount of money for a football coach to be making even if he is one of the best of all time.  But this is the sports world that we live in. Places like  Bama, Florida, OSU, Texas and USC have the financial means to go out and sign coaches to these ridiculous amounts of money to make sure that they don't jump ship and go to another powerhouse school for that type of money.

Coaches have become mercenaries, they will say I am 100% committed to this school I will not leave, oh hey you're going to give me a $2 million raise to come to your school.  Hello new school, I am 100% committed to this great university.
Shhh..... My Common Sense is Tingling.
