Jeff Jones

You guys know  better than  me about this player - but at least we don't have to say we only get 3 star recruits.

RyanBurnsGI @ RyanBurnsGI I have learned that Minneapolis (Minn.) 2014 4-star running back Jeff Jones has committed to # Minnesota . Huge pickup to start the 2014 class

Re: Jeff Jones

This is huge! Very talented RB that is still going to grow.

I think it's huge he did it on Junior Day as well. The top in-state recruit commits to the homestate school on Junior Day when all of the best players from in-state are right there and learn/ hear about it.

On a side note, there's another very talented RB at Washburn, too. I forget his name, but he had pretty good film as well. A much different type of RB than Jeff, but still seemed like he would be pretty good.

Jones is an absolute stud. There were some whispers about grade issues but no idea if thats true or not. He is one of the better RB's to come out of the midwest in the past few years. Nice get.

On Wisconsin!

RE: Jeff Jones

this kid looks to be the real deal and a huge pick up for coach Kill to re-establish our home turf!  2014 is another great year for recruits in Minnesota so it is important to get a great start! And he has!

Is it football season yet?  gogophers.gif

Get that class started out right!  It will be a big deal if Kill can lock down the state.

I know it's a highlight film, but it looks like defenders are getting out of his way sometimes.

This kid is the full package. Fast, tough, agile, see holes before they open. HUGE get for Kill and co. Now we just have to keep him committed.

Nice to see a very talented kid stay loyal to the hometown school.

Now I expect he won't get bumped to a 5 star recruit...gotta love the star system.

Great news plus a smart decison by Jones. He can count on having a great OL opening up holes for him. And with his early commit now he can help bring in other players. Gotta love it

Re: Jeff Jones

i think what the gophers do on the field next season will bring other in state players to stay home.

It looks like Kill has the train moving in the right direction!

Congrats on Jones, I thought it was a 3 horse race until the end.  Unfortunately, it ended a lot sooner than I hoped.  Congrats again.

Those whisper probably started when he committed to Minnesota as a way for badger fans to rationalize why he didn't commit to Wisconsin.  I have no idea what his grades are like, but he has so many offers I would seriously doubt he is in danger of not qualifying.

Re: Jeff Jones

Jeff is apparently "looking at all his options"

Take this as him no longer being a verbal.

He's always been a soft verbal. I'm not going to worry about it at this point in time. If we're sitting behind some schools come fall then I'll get worried but for now, he's still got us in front I believe.

We have to get a stud RB to help the running game and we need to show that RBs have the potential to make the NFL under the current staff if we want to attract the multiple star guys.  We really need Jones to be a Gopher so he can lead the way for future backs to want to come to the U.

RE: Jeff Jones

What a bummer if he is still looking. Never really put too much stock in verbal commits. It is nice, but meaningless until they put the ink on their LOI.

RE: Jeff Jones

From what I saw in his interview with Rivals, his dad got him to start looking around at his options again.  I don't think it's a good sign that someone close doesn't seem to think that the Gophers are a good idea.  I always worry when a kid that seems to be highly regarded commits too early without strong ties (like family who went there or long time fan) because it's possible they aren't convinced bigger programs will come after them.  In his case however, I'm surprised to hear him talking about ISU (where he visited as part of looking at options again).  I can see if he had some big name school he dreamed of that he didn't think would come calling... but if the Gophs loose him to ISU that would be a head scratcher.

Keelon Brookins dad went to the U... It varies kid to kid how it will all play out. We have to have faith that our staff will do all they can to get the best kids they can and have reliable backup plans if those fall through.
